  1. Display Open Access Indicator based on Setting at the Portfolio Level

Currently, the Open Access (OA) indicator displays in Community Zone records when the record contains a 506 field with the following formatting:

    506 0_ $f Unrestricted online access $2 star

Records in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) collection are automatically enriched with this data, but not records in any other collection. The rationale is that the OA indicator may appear on records that are not available as OA in all collections, leading to a confusing display. However, this can lead to cases where institutions do have OA access, but cannot display the OA indicator.

    To avoid both of…

  2. Consistent use of first ISBN in MARC field 020 for electronic resources in Alma

Right now which ISBN is displayed/taken for export relating to e-resources is rather inconsistent in Alma:

.) In the results list of an All Titles search the first ISBN of MARC field 020 is displayed and subsequently used for Excel export.
.) In the results list of an Electronic Portfolio search the second ISBN of MARC field 020 is displayed (if there is one) and subsequently used for Excel export.
.) In the portfolio list of an electronic collection the second ISBN of MARC field 020 is displayed (if there is one).
.) On the portfolio tab of the Electronic…

  3. Electronic Material Types - Need for more options.

Unlike the Physical Item Material Types, Electronic Material Types are limited because they are hardcoded. However, the list that is provided by Ex Libris does not give us enough granularity. For instance, at our institution, we have senior theses that are deposited into our institutional repository. However, when you create the portfolio and select the Electronic Material Type there is no option for either “Bachelor’s Thesis” or a generic “Thesis”. Instead, they only provide “Dissertation” or “Master Thesis” there is no option for a Bachelor’s of Senior project. Therefore, we are forced to select Book which is inaccurate.

    This would…

  5. E-Resources: Make public note and authentication note translatable

In the editor of e-collection / service / portfolio, it is possible to set up the public note and authentication note. These are then displayed to the patron in Primo VE in the box with full-text link in view it section.

Currently it is a simple text box with no translation possibility. In our network we use 4 languages for the UI. Therefore, we require this field to be translatable so the note language adjusts to the patron interface in Primo VE.

  6. Contributed collections - a Report to Contributor instead of Report to Ex Libris

There are many collections now that are contributed by the community. Sometimes there are errors within them and as it is now, there is no way to report that and get the linking problem (for an example) fixed and the issues can be so many that a deactivation is necessary, but then the collection becomes dead and just clutter KB. My suggestion is that when a institution contributes a collection, a mandatory field is added to the workflow of contributing. This field contains an email address. That email address is then incorporated into a button so you can report to…

  7. Flexible and normalized comparison of portfolio coverage dates in Overlap & Collection Analysis

Currently, Overlap & Collection Analysis compares portfolio coverage dates exactly as they appear in the portfolio coverage fields. As a result, equivalent coverage ranges are not always recognized as matches when the dates are recorded at different levels of detail or when some components are missing.
    For example, coverage such as:
    • 2.1.2016, Volume 1 Issue 1
    and
    • 2016, Volume 1 Issue 1
may represent the same start point, but the system treats them as different because one includes a full date while the other includes only a year.
In many knowledge bases and vendor data, coverage dates are…

  8. Display perpetual coverage dates where no other coverage provided

We now have the ability to log current access dates and perpetual access dates on a portfolio. However there is no way to display the perpetual access dates in Alma or Primo unless looking at the coverage tab of the portfolio.

It would be good if there was an option to use the perpetual coverage dates as our display dates either by having an additional option for the local, global, local and global section, or just displaying those dates if local only is selected and there is nothing in the local section.

We have titles that we had current and…

  9. Add purchase model to more auto-holdings.

It is great to have purchase model added automatically for Ebook Central og JSTOR Books holdings, and it would be even better if we could get purchase model also when using auto-holdings for publishers such as Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis and de Gruyter. We have evidence based acquisition agreements with all of these publishers and it would be very helpful if we could see which titles were in the EBA corpus and which we have purchased, either through the EBA or by earlier collection purchases.

  12. Allow portfolio loader to match on MMS ID when creating e-inventory

The portfolio loader tool can only create inventory by matching on ISSN, ISBN and PID. It does not match on MMS ID. This is an issue when creating electronic portfolios for theses/dissertations or source material that do not have an ISSN/ISBN.

  13. Create a Set of Inventory from a Title Set

It would be very useful to be able to take a set of titles, and convert it into a set of inventory attached to those titles. Specifically, I would like to create a Portfolio set from a set of Electronic Titles. I have regular need to move groups of portfolios from one local e-collection to another. I have only a list of ISBNs to start with, which I use to create an itemized Electronic Titles set. However, moving portfolios requires a Portfolio set, which can only be created with Portfolio IDs. It is very cumbersome to arrive at the appropriate…

  15. E-Collections: Read-only access to Alma for other institutions

We wish to provide read-only access to our Alma instance to other institutions in our consortium and vice versa so that we can compare setup more efficiently. The permissions need to be quite restrictive and prohibit access to financial, patron data, etc. but allow us to view E-Collection, Service and Portfolio level screens.

When comparing set-up of our e-collections we are spending a lot of time discussing via email and sharing screen shots, which is not as efficient as being able to go in with a view privilege and compare in real-time.

  16. Display NZ activated Portfolios even if Related Records Services are enabled in an IZ

In our consortial environement, we have activaded a number of portfolios on NZ level, which we would then expect to also be available in our IZs. Often this is not the case and instead of a specific article that is part of the portfolio, only the journal it belongs to is displayed under Services for Related Titles. As Ex Libris informed us, this is because Related Records Services are activated in our consortium, which leads the link resolver to display those related journals instead of checking if there is an NZ activated portfolio. Their solution to this would be to…

  17. Using load portfolios in a collection to update POL link

We currently use the Load Portfolios tool in the Electronic service to update portfolio information. We have found this won't update the PO Line information in the Acquisition tab of the Portfolio. It is included in the data in an extended export of portfolio information, but does any changes/additions made to this field in the spreadsheet are not reflected in Alma when it is loaded.

We would like to be able to add/change this information using the Load portfolios tool.

A recent example of where this would be useful was a number of portfolios were incorrectly deleted from a collection.…

  18. Include rolling dates in local date information field

As an electronic resource librarian, I would like to see a better way to deal with rolling coverage dates. There does not seem to be a good way to deal with gaps in portfolio coverage when there's a moving target date involved. For example, if a title includes perpetual access from 2011-present, and issues 12 years or older are open access, unless you include a public note, what will display is:

Available from 2011 volume: xx issue: xx
Most recent 12 year(s) not available

This is confusing to patrons and librarians alike. It would be useful to have the option…

  19. Support local portfolio record creation using parser parameter linking

Alma electronic collections offer ‘parser parameter’ linking as an alternative to static URLs. Community Zone electronic collections generally use parser parameter linking. Currently there is no way of creating local bibliographic and portfolio records and at the point of record creation setting them to use parser parameter linking, and populating the portfolio record parser parameters field with the relevant bkey value for that title.  If we want to use local bibliographic and portfolio records and use parser parameter linking, our only option is to create the records using static URLs and then subsequently edit the records to use parser parameters.

    Potential…

  20. Add indications to Electronic Service & Portfolios showing when portfolios use MARC metadata instead of parser parameters for linking

There are some electronic services and portfolios in the Alma CZ that do not use parser parameters. Instead, they use ISSN or some other element drawn from the MARC metadata to construct their links. However, there is no indication in Alma when a service or portfolio behaves this way. To the Alma user, it looks as if the portfolios must be misconfigured, as they have no parser parameters and no apparent way to link at the title level. This makes troubleshooting linking problems very difficult, and it conceals the actual linking functionality from Alma customers.

    To be fully transparent with…
