Ex Libris Idea Exchange Guidelines

The Ex Libris Idea Exchange platform is a space for customers to share ideas that can enhance and improve our products. The platform enables users to propose new features or suggest improvements to existing functionality that are not yet part of the product. The goal is to foster collaboration between our user community and the Ex Libris product management team, helping us prioritize the features that matter most to you. Please note that this platform is not intended for reporting defects or issues with existing features—those should be directed to our official support channels.

To ensure your ideas have the best chance of being understood and considered, please follow these guidelines:

Guidelines for Submitting Ideas

1. Search before you submit.
Before submitting your idea, search the product forum to see if a similar feature has already been suggested. This helps avoid duplicate submissions and saves time.

2. Craft a clear and specific title.
Make your title and description as specific as possible so that both other users and the Ex Libris team can easily understand your suggestion.

3. Submit one idea per submission.
Each idea should be submitted individually. You can submit multiple ideas, but limiting each submission to one idea makes it easier to track and discuss.

4. Use the user story format.
Submit your idea in the form of a user story. Try using this structure:

  • Role: Who is the feature for?
  • Proposed Feature: What does the user want to achieve?
  • Benefit: How will the feature help? What value does it provide?

For example: “As a [role], I would like [proposed feature] so that [benefit].”

5. Categorize your idea.
If possible, assign a relevant category from the provided list. This helps other users and the Ex Libris team locate your idea more easily in searches.

6. Assign a point to your submission.
Each idea you submit must be assigned at least one point to indicate its importance.

7. Use NERS for road-map commitments.
If you're looking for a firm road-map commitment, use the NERS process through IGeLU and ELUNA. Ideas submitted on Idea Exchange can influence the road map, but they do not carry the same commitment as those submitted via NERS.

8. Report defects through support channels.
The Idea Exchange platform is not for reporting defects or issues with existing features. If you encounter a bug or malfunction, please use the official support channels to report it.

9. Maintain a positive, constructive environment.
Respect your fellow contributors. Engage in thoughtful and respectful discussions, and avoid criticizing others’ ideas. Keep the dialogue positive and focused on enhancing the product.

10. No spam or promotional content.
Do not use the forums to promote external services or websites. Keep the space free of self-promotion or fraudulent activities.

11. Avoid copyright infringement.
Do not submit copyrighted content or materials you don't want to license to Ex Libris. Be mindful of protecting your own intellectual property, and consult the Terms of Use for further details.
