Sort collections by creation/modification date
It would be very helpful to be able to sort collections in the Community Zone by creation date, modification date, and total activations. Some collections (especially older ones) are not well maintained, or newer versions are added without older versions being removed. Being able to sort collections by creation date or modification date would help to be able to select the most updated collection. It would also be beneficial to be able to sort by the total activations, as the ones with the higher numbers are more likely to be the best one.

Preferred email address and system messages
If a user account has no preferred email address, no letters will be sent to this user. It is possible to save a user account without preferred email, and I guess that some libraries need to be able to save email addresses without having one that is preferred. But at Uppsala university we need better messages from the system about this, otherwise some users will have no preferred email and consequently get no letters from the library.
When changing an email address, the user account is saved in two steps. First through the button "Save Email" directly after the change, and then through the button "Save" when leaving the user account. Only the latter gives a system message if there is no preferred email address. The staff user might think the email is ok, and fail to click Save the account. The email address change is saved even without saving the user account.
There is only one chance to get the system message. When returning to the same account, a click on “Save” will give no system message even though there is no preferred email.
One great solution to this would be that the system checks if there is a preferred email address every time the button "Save Email" is pressed. This would include all email addresses in the check. If there is no preferred one, staff will be notified so, if needed, they can correct this.
Another solution would be that the system checks for preferred email addresses every time an account is saved, not just when a change to the email account has occurred. And then gives a message if there is no preferred email address.
Whatever the solution, the message must contain a warning that no preferred email means no letters will be sent to the user from the library. Otherwise, the staff user might not understand the significance of the system message.

Show letter category in Letters Config
In the documentation on Letters, the table includes a column for Category, which shows whether a letter is for Acquisition, Fulfillment, Digital, etc. (https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/050Administration/050Configuring_General_Alma_Functions/070Configuring_Alma_Letters)
However, when you are actually in Letters Configuration, the table does NOT include Category, so there is no simple way to filter to see JUST the Acquisitions letters, or JUST the Fulfillment letters. It's also not a column that can be added to the view by clicking the gear icon.
It would be SUPER helpful to add the Category to the Letters Configuration table.

Intelex Past Masters collection needs better metadata
The Intelex Past Masters
In Alma in the electronic collections I can find the metadata have a structure that follows the structure of the database and not a normal catalogue standard.
A title looks like this: 'Collected works of Ludwig Wittgenstein. On certainty' and there are very few other information, eg. the field for ISBN and the writer has not been filled out.
When I search in Primo, I have to do a very specific search to find the title, since the title is not simply 'On certainty' and Wittgenstein in the writers field. Therefore the ranking gives a very poor priority to these titles.
They are main primary titles within philosophy and other fields and therefore is much used, when findable. We just moved to Alma from Intota, and in Intota there were more metadata (see photo) and the title would simply be 'On Certainty'

Output Location External Name in z39.50 OPAC format
Alma provides the ability to specify an External Name for a location and this is used in PrimoVE instead of the location Name. However, when item information is exposed via the z39.50 OPAC format the "shelvingLocation" contains the location Name and not the External Name. The External Name should apply in all cases where the location name is exposed outside of ALMA including z39.50.

'Notes' field in User Group configuration - note field for each user group in the user group table
I know there is a tab for notes in user group configuration (Fulfilment>Patron Configurations>User Groups) but it would be more useful if there was a way of adding a note to each user group in the table, so it would appear as a column in the table next to Description. Then we could add what that user group includes, or how they are defined.

Add the Work Order Types sorting option
Hi Everyone,
We're working on our Work Order types and departments to get a better overview of items under repair and others in libraries. I can't figure out how the WO types are sorted in the fulfillment desks, they seem to be randomly placed when I add them!
The issue is about the sorting of work orders types in a circulation desk. I made video captures I can share if you like. As you can see on it I added 3 work orders type to a circ desk and I can't understand their sort in the circ desk parameters.
And I try another time, the sort will be different (start of the 2nd video).
And finally the Circ desk's Work orders types' sort will be the same for the librarians in the scan in menu : 2nd video. The product Manager answered me, it's a bug and the Alma Tier2 Support Team said me "There is no Work Order Types sorting option. This was reported as a bug, but there are no plans of adding a sorting option for Work Order Types at the moment."
Thank you for support
Regards
Nicolas

Collection-level authentication method options for CDI Link in Record links
Please provide an option to configure the authentication method applied to CDI Link in record links at the collection level. As it stands, we are able to set a preference at the institution level that is applied to all CDI collections. Our selection to apply the default proxy (in our case, the OpenAthens redirector) is not appropriate for some collections and cannot be overridden. This is especially important as more providers move to federated authentication.
Ex Libris has configured exceptions for ProQuest legacy collections upon request, but not for other providers.
Mintel is a good example. When the OpenAthens redirector is applied to Mintel CDI Link in record links, our users are authenticated, then they are taken correctly to a page where they must acknowledge terms of use. After acknowledging the terms, users land on an error page. Were the user provided the direct Link in record link, they could select our institution, acknowledge the terms, then be directed to the content.

Drop line breaks while compiling XML for import profile
Many of our vendors upload MARC files to an FTP server and the files are processed by our import profiles. When there are line breaks in the files (usually in a note field that is copied into the MARC from another source), the file is treated as invalid MARC. This error is identified after all the files for that profile have been combined, so the import job kicks out valid MARC files in addition to the ones containing errors. Since these are being uploaded by the vendor, we often don't notice that there is a problem until a staff member is looking to receive and pay for the materials.
I would like to suggest that Alma do some normalization to drop paragraph and line breaks from files (or replace them with spaces) prior to compiling the file into XML.

Using License Terms and Display Logic Rules to hide certain collections
Electronic Resources are not always available to all patrons at a subscribing institution, either due to region locking or prohibitive pricing for extending access to students at partner institutions/certain user groups. Currently in Alma/Primo VE there is no satisfactory way to stop these resources surfacing where a signed in user does not have access such as when Alumni or Walk In.
The restricted user groups feature is overkill in this regard. We don't want to limit a user groups access to CDI or EBSCO content entirely, just select collections/databases based on the licence restrictions pertaining to their user group.
What I propose is an additional range of options in the Discovery Interface Display Logic rules configuration to go alongside Electronic Collection and Interface - License Terms. If these criteria were available to use general rules could be set up to govern access on an Licence Term basis, rather than a per Resource basis which is cumbersome as this needs to be configured for each individual resource.
So for example if on the licence terms Alumni Access = No, you could configure the rule to be
For user groups: Alumni
Hide: Full Text/DB Service
With: Licence
With Licence Term: Alumni Access
Selection equals: NoThis would provide customers with a better range of tools to manage content access beyond the separate discovery views and provide patrons with a more accurate list of content available to them.

Add Scan in message with "Cancel" option for items currently on loan
A common mistake when working with "Scan in" is to accidentally scan in the same item twice. When working with home deliveries, this means the first scan in will loan the item out to the patron, while the second scan in will return it again. This alone might be a problem, but it gets even worse when there are requests for the item. The item will either be placed on hold shelf for or even loaned out to the next patron if it was requested for home delivery. In both cases, both the new and the old patron might receive messages telling them about the status change, which means we don't only have to fix the situation in Alma but also communicate the mistake and explain the messages to the patrons.
There are blocks to prevent items that are lent out to one patron from being lent out directly to another without return first, but since the Scan in workflow does a return first and only then tries to loan the item out, it will not help in this scenario.
Instead I suggest adding another "Scan in message" with the "Cancel" option to make it possible to abort the scan in. The simplest implementation would be to just warn for any lent out item, letting the operator decide if they should proceed, but that might be problematic for some who use scan in extensively to (intentionally) return books. If so, more complex logic might be required, like triggering only if the item is also requested.
With this change, there is a second chance of catching the mistake before it makes a mess of the request queue.

Better information design for pop-ups in the New Circ UI
When managing return items in Alma: information in the pop-up on subsequent steps in the process is difficult to read due to a small typeface. Also, not all information is relevant or, strictly speaking, correct (e.g. "item is not on loan" even when there is an active request).
We would like to see a larger font in general, or, if this is not feasible, at least the requester's name in bold typeface. This would add a much needed visual cue for staff processing returns.
The bullet point about the item not being on loan could be supressed as it offers no relevant information at this stage.

failure to display the location of items in a user's loans
we are facing a major issue in the new User Management Interface regarding the display of loans. No matter which view we choose, we cannot see the location if there is an alternative location in the copy record.

Enhance Support for Non-University Libraries
Issue: Alma is heavily focused on academic libraries and electronic resources, making it less suitable for cultural institutions or libraries managing physical, archival, or unique materials.
Improvement:
Develop specialized modules for archival and special collections, including better support for preservation treatments, valuation, and non-MARC metadata (e.g., Dublin Core).
Create configurable workflows for physical resource management that are less acquisition-centric, addressing the needs of state or special libraries.
Expand Community Zone metadata to include more diverse formats and sources relevant to non-academic libraries.
RapidILL Synergy: Extend RapidILL’s support for non-traditional resources (e.g., datasets, 3D objects) to align with Alma’s expanded metadata capabilities, enabling seamless sharing of diverse materials.
Impact: Broadens Alma’s appeal to cultural and special libraries, addressing criticisms about its university-centric focus.

Support Storage Location ID in SRU and Barcode API Queries
Hi,
Currently, Alma's BIB SRU interface does not support querying by Storage Location ID. This limits our ability to perform targeted searches for items based on their physical storage location, which is a critical need for institutions managing remote or offsite collections.
We propose the following enhancements to improve Alma's interoperability and search capabilities:
Extend the BIB SRU “q” parameter to support querying by Storage Location ID.
Introduce an ITEM-level SRU endpoint, similar to the existing BIB SRU, that would support more granular item-level searches including by Storage Location ID.
Alternatively or additionally, add Storage Location ID as a searchable field in the existing Alma API that supports querying by barcode.
Example Usage:
Libraries with multiple storage locations, including remote or automated facilities, need an efficient and standardized way to locate and manage items based on their storage location. Having Storage Location ID available in SRU and APIs would allow seamless integration with external inventory systems and automation workflows.
Impact:
Streamlines item management in large and complex storage environments.
Enables better automation of inventory and retrieval tasks.
Facilitates integration with third-party systems through standards-compliant interfaces.
We appreciate your consideration and look forward to seeing this functionality included in a future Alma release.
Thank you,
Shaul Greenstein
