  1. Allow user preferred pick up location while retaining other options

    Currently in the TOU you can allow pick-up at "Any pick-up location" or at" User affiliated Campus Pick-up locations". If the latter is set, only pick-up locations of the user's campus are available. We need an extension to the former rule, that lets the user's preferred pick-up location (a new parameter in the user profile) be selected as default option, while still allowing the user to select a different location when placing the request.
    Obviously, the "User preferred pick-up library" needs to be added to the user profile.

  2. Display renewals in Item History

    In the Physical Item Editor, under the Fulfillment activities, we are able to see the Loan and Return history. I think it would be great to see Renewal information in this place as well.

    So many times, we have patrons disputing fines because the item was late and they renewed it thinking that it's not due on the original due date.

  3. Enhance Convert to Resource Sharing function on Pick From Shelf List

    When you don't find a requested item at your institution, it is great to be able to 'convert it to a resource sharing request' -- however that function should mark the item missing from our institution. Since pick from shelf does NOT display barcode and once we select the item to be converted to resource sharing request, it disappears from the pick from shelf list, so it is very difficult and time consuming to find the item and toggle it to missing.   4. No items available for request due to policy- Show policy violated

    When a request fails, an error message reads: "No items available for request due to policy." It would be very helpful if the error message included which policy prevents the request. With that information, I can easily tell the patron what prevents the request or fix a policy problem. Right now, I have to hunt the problem down in the fulfillment and/or configuration modules.

  5. More Options for Fulfillment Notice Scheduling (SMS)

    Job schedules for fulfillment notifications are limited to terrible times for receiving text messages. SMS notifications run on the same job as the email letter notifications. For example, the "Send Courtesy Notices and Handle Loan Renewal" job has scheduling options of Not Scheduled, Everyday at 20:00, and Everyday at 24:00. The "Send Overdue Notices" job has scheduling options of Not Scheduled, Everyday at 03:00, Everyday at 05:00, or Everyday at 23:00.

    Needless to say, these are not ideal time for our users to be receiving text messages on their phones. We would like to see more scheduling options during regular…

    This is about allowing Course Reserves course and reading lists to be able to be managed in sets and deleted in bulk.

  7. Flag items requested by another user in Patron Services screen

    Our desk staff would like to be able to see at a glance which of the items a user has on loan has been requested.
    We often have a scenario where a user presents at the desk with a blocked account. We can tell that one or more of the books they have on loan must have been requested, but need to 'View queue' for each of them to find out which ones have a request placed on them.It would be useful to be able to see this information at a glance.

  8. Make Manage Fulfillment Activities the same thing as Manage Patron Services

    I found this idea buried in a comments section and felt it deserved its own idea since my team keeps encountering the same problem.

  9. Refreshing linked account expiration dates

    As we understand it, there are only two ways for a linked account's expiration date to be refreshed/synchronized with the user's primary account in their home IZ:


    1. Requesting an item from the IZ with that linked account


    2. Staff at the lending institution go to Manage Patron Services, Find user in other institution, enter the user's identifier, and then find user


    We think that the Alma experience would be improved by triggering this refresh process by a renewal attempt, by having an ability to run and schedule a job that refreshes these expiration dates on a regular basis, or by some…

  10. Autocomplete

    It would be extremely helpful for ALMA to have an autocomplete feature when searching for title, author or even call number. Many times you can be off by one letter and ALMA won't find the item.

  11. Configuring External Library names for display in Primo

    In Alma it is already possible to enter external location names for display in Primo. 
We request this option for library names, too. Currently, the configured library name is exposed to the user in the Primo Getit tab as well as to the staff in several places in the Alma user interface, f.ex. the „currently at“ pickup list and the persistent menu. We request the possibility to configure an internal name for display in Alma (for example in abreviated form) and and external name for display in the Primo Get it tab.

  12. Waitlist functionality for short-term loans

    It would be helpful to have a waitlist functionality for short-term loans (i.e. for reserve items). This would allow patrons to put their name on a list to be next in line once a short-term loan item has been returned. Alma would send an email/text to the patron when the item is returned telling the patron they have a specific window of time (e.g. 5 minutes, configurable by the institution) to check out the item.   13. Activate recalls by user group

    Allow libraries to modify recall rules based on each user group.

    Currently recalls can be turned on or all for all user groups only. It would be beneficial for many libraries, especially academic, to be able to modify recall rules by user group. As an academic institution, we would like the ability to allow certain patron groups to recall books, but block recalls by our visitor and community patrons, or patrons at other institutions. This would help prevent situations where a student working on a project or thesis from having their books recalled by a visitor patron who would like…

    It would be helpful to display the patron's expiration date on the manage patron services screen so that an operator does not need to navigate to the patron record and the "general information" tab just to see the patron's expiration date.

  15. Initiate a physical item request on behalf of a Fulfillment Network patron

    At minimum, add the ability to search Fulfillment Network (FN) patrons in the Requester field of a Physical Item Request, like we can in Manage Patron Services, Return Items, and Scan in Items.

    Use case: one of our patrons requests an item from Interlibrary Loan (or from our shelves, but we discover the item is missing), and we want to convert that to a Fulfillment Network request.   16. Ability to change the default for reading room to NOT FINAL - Second Attempt

    In August 2018 Release we got a solution for the original idea, which made things worse for us. Previously the default for the reading room was set to "Final" check in. The original idea suggested to change this to "Not Final" to help avoid a scenario where for example resource sharing items are returned accidenty to their home campus when users are not finished with them.
    As of August 2018 Alma remembers the last selected choice and keeps it for the next action ("sticky approach"). Since eventually every book loaned in the reading room has to be returned "final", now…

  17. Enhance Physical Locations List export for "Suppress from Discovery" and other tags

    At the moment there is no easy way to create a list of all physical locations set to "Suppress from Discovery".

    It's not in the export, it's not in Analytics and it's not in the data you can get via API.

    I would expect this information to be included in the export you can download in Alma. Same thing goes for "Accession Placement", "Call Number Type" and all other fields that are available in "Edit Physical Location".

    At the moment the export is rather short as it contains only Code, Name, Location Type and Fulfillment Unit.

  18. Enter 12 hour time with AM/PM

    We have already changed our display to 12 hours in the General configuration (General/Other Settings/systemtimeformat is changed to hh:mm:ss a and it operates correctly.) However, there are still many cases when Alma requires us to input a 24 hour time.

    For example, when we check out an item and need to change the due time, there is no way to input 12 hours with AM/PM.   20. Check past requests

    When a request is cancelled or completed, there is no possibility to retrieve any information about the past request. If something went wrong, it is impossible to trace the patron or destination of the request.
