Limit in house use entry through Scan in Items
Alma records In House use via "Scan in Items" module and whenever item that is not on loan checked in. I would like to see a setting that will allow "In House use" to be registered only by Scan in Items. There are numerous occasions where staff may check in items but it is necessarily "in house use" by patrons.

Registering in-house use from "Manage Item Returns" page does not make sense, as it causes the loan data (in-house) in Analytics to be inaccurate. Implementing this improvement should not require significant programming effort. In the event that ExLibris has deliberately created this feature, please at least explain to us what purpose it serves.

We would also very much like to see this change. It is too easy to accidentally scan items more than once for check-in and skew your in-house statistics. We want to start collecting this data but have put it off because of this issue.

I also support changing the functionality on the Return Items page so that multiple scans DO NOT record in-house. Staff regularly scan things in multiple times to make sure that items have been returned, so our in-house use counts are meaningless. It would be much better if in-house uses were ONLY counted on the Scan In Items page, when it is intentional.

In Alma, there are two ways to record in-house use: (1) Scan the item barcode on "Scan In Items” page with the Register in-house use checkbox (2) Scan the item barcode on the “Manage Item Returns (i.e. Return items)” page.
In many libraries, the library staffs are used to double check-in the library materials in order to make sure the library materials have been returned properly. When the library staffs double check-in an item via the Manage Item Returns page in Alma, it will give rise to one more 'in-house use' count. This double check-in action would inevitably affect the accuracy of in-house statistics.
My suggestion: As the "Scan in items" page has been already used for recording the in-house use, It’s better to remove the in-house use count on the "Manage Item Returns" page as this page is more suitable for doing the simple check in and double check in.

Actually the in house counter is useless, beacause often staff wrongly check in items not in loan multiple times to be sure if item is returned correctly but this behavior lead to a incorrect mesaurement of in house use. Moreover, in Analytics when you count loans the in house use is include if you not add properly filter in criteria, so it would be better to separate loans and in house use, too.
