way to report in Analytics for the POL Note
Need the ability to report in Analytics for the POL Note. We would like to be able to pull a report for POLs which have a note.
The only POL note that I can find in Analytics is the Note to Vendor but the notes we are adding are not in this field.

The PO Line Notes field was added to the PO Line dimension in the following locations. It contains the notes on the PO line. Multiple notes are separated by a semicolon.
E-Inventory
Funds Expenditure
Physical Items
Purchase Requests

Should the status of this now be changed to Completed, as per the December 2021 Release Notes?

I just added a comment to this duplicate request: https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308173-alma/suggestions/37173745-reporting-po-line-notes
I'll say it again here:
How about POL notes similar to the Item Internal Notes 1-3? Those are fixed length and available in analytics. While we wouldn't be able to store all our order notes in just three internal notes, it would be a huge improvement over the current situation. This is critical functionality. I hope Ex Libris is motivated to find a solution.

I'm revisiting this again after yet another query internally from a staff member desperate to get the POL Note information from Analytics.
And I had to explain that it's missing, and Ex Libris has declined to support adding it, with an inconsistent reason.
Oracle has a 4000 character limit and many other Notes and long MARC fields in the Bibliographic area are all ETL'd to this limit.
So, why is the POL Note singled out specifically in this way to be excluded, given these other data entry fields are also 'virtually free text'?
I would rather have a known limit of 4000 only characters, and encourage our staff to be clear and concise to stay within the limit, than have nothing. -

I think the "Planned" note in the other idea is to make PO line notes searchable in Alma, not to make them available in Analytics.

Please refer to this note on another Ideas Exchange post about this topic, which includes a year earlier, an indication that this was planned:
Search PO Line by PO Line Note in Alma
Under Search for PO Line > Find:() >In:(), we would like to add the option to search Alma PO Line Notes Fields under the "In:" pull down menu .This is so we can search our migrated data for codes we have installed on the "PO Line Item Notes", "Instructions to Vendor", "PO Note", and the "PO Instructions to Vendor " fields in Voyager records to easily verify the P2E process converted orders correctly.

Yes, we will support searching PO Lines by the notes in the Notes tab of the PO Line. -

I'm intrigued by the Declined comment on the basis that POL notes are "free text notes with virtually no limit to size or amount".
The OLH indicates that these should have a limit of 400 characters, as per all Notes other than User Note which has 2000: "The User note in the patron record is limited to 2,000 characters. Other notes (all areas in Alma that use the notes infrastructure) are limited to 400 characters. There is no limit to the number of notes that can be added to a record."(https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Materials/050Alma_FAQs/General/01_General%2C_User_Interface#Is_there_a_maximum_character_limit_for_notes.3F)
Many other Note fields are exported to Analytics, including in SAs for Users, Requests, Physical Items and E-Inventory.
Given the documentation indicates that POL notes should have the same field length characters as other Notes, why are they specifically excluded from Analytics ETL when other Notes are not?

I also would really like to see this as I regularly receive queries from teams wishing to exploit the data they are inputting into this field. I know the similar idea (below) has been marked as planned, but it doesn't look to include the Analytics side of things.

I'm out of votes but TOTALLY support this idea!

This has regularly been on the NERS list - hopefully it gets some traction in ideas exchange. I think it should be standard to be able to report out this field!

I suggested this at ELUNA back in 2014, but didn't get much support back then! Glad to finally see that this is being planned. I'd also like to see the inclusion of all Notes in Analytics (portfolio, collection, license...)

I want to give this 3 votes but I'm all dry up so I hope by adding to the comments that I can bring attention to the need for this improvement.

I just received a request from the Library Staff requesting a report of POL Notes. So I support the other comments that this field (fields) should be added to Analytics.
It would be helpful for there to be a method of accessing all database records / fields. I am often finding that the field I would like to report on is not in Analytics.

This would be extremely helpful. So much migrated order data is only in notes, including funding which for us identified the correct format.

Yes, I'd like to see this developed too. In particular, we are keen to be able to report those Reports from Vendors about the status of an order, e.g. not in printed, delayed, cancelled etc.
-
Kathleen Spring commented
We support this, especially because the only way to view the reason for cancellation note after a cancellation note has been processed is via the Notes tab on the POL.

Hi - I agree with Kat. If ExLibris is reading this, please consider merging this idea with the similar idea: https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308173-alma/suggestions/16887904-search-po-line-by-po-line-note-in-alma. The gist here is that users really need access to all the Order Line notes, both in Analytics as well as being searchable in Alma. Thanks for considering this.

Would it be possible to merge this idea and it's votes with: http://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308173-alma/suggestions/16887904-search-po-line-by-po-line-note-in-alma? They are basically the same idea: index the PO and PO Line notes so they are searchable in Analytics and Alma. This other idea has 60 votes, so combining these would advance the cause! :D
