  1. Allow cataloguers to choose which names are linked to authority files

Allow cataloguers to choose which names are linked to authority files

This is important because the all on or off automatic linking creates links for unqualified names and catalogers want the option to verify and thus link names in the way it is done in connexion.

This when the authority data is updated - every record attached to it is improved and unqualified or non-established names do not get affected.

  2. Re-sequence MARC fields by each tag when running a normalization rule

Currently, after running a normalization rule on a set of bib records, the bib records display the 5XX fields out of order, e.g. 500, 546, 506 etc. This occurs even after running the CnmarcBibReSequenceTask as fields between 500 and 899 are not sorted, or sorted only by hundreds (this was the information given to us by a member of staff when we reported the issue on the ExLibris Customer Portal).

Having all fields in the correct order would ease any future cataloguing needed on these records, or when staff members view the record for work purposes.

    I've attached an example…

  3. Include authority cross-references in Browse Bib Headings

The very useful Browse Bib Headings tool includes only information from bib records. It would be extremely useful if it also included authority cross-references for controlled headings, similar to how the Primo browse works. This way, if a user tries to use the Browse Bib Headings and enters the non-preferred term, the cross-reference will let them know that they need to search on the preferred term.

  6. Automatic dismissal of corrected authorities from the Authority Control Task List.

Automatic dismissal of corrected authorities from the Authority Control Task List.
Improve the Authority Control Task List linking functionality so that when an authority is upgraded/corrected in the metadata editor, it is automatically dismissed from the Task List. Items are added to the Task List before an institution has had a chance to upgrade the catalogue record. Many of these authorities will routinely be upgraded at the cataloguing stage. The need to then manually remove substandard authorities from the Task List which no longer exist in the bibliographic records adds a huge burden of extra work, especially for large institutions.…

  7. (Metadata editor) Make the "yes" and "no" Release All Records buttons keyboard actionable

It would be great to be able just to type Y or N in the Release All Records dialogue window, rather than having to mouseclick on "Yes" or "No."

  8. Metadata Editor: Add More Keyboard Shortcuts and Make Existing Ones Intuitive

The ME needs a keyboard shortcut for every function. 'Search External Resources', 'Release Record', and many other actions do not have keyboard shortcuts, so I still essentially have to use the menu for everything. This is simply inaccessible.

Secondly, the shortcuts that do exist don't make sense. A new field is F8, but deleting a field is CTRL + F6? Why not just make it CTRL + F8? Or F9? These shortcuts are poorly thought out and confusing.

  9. Add notifications to Alma reminders

I appreciate the addition of the Reminders in Alma, but I think it would be even more useful if reminders could trigger email notifications when the reminder date has arrived.

  10. It would be helpful if there were an option to "print MARC record" within the MD editor and from the Repository Search.

We sometimes have need of a hard copy of the MARC record for tracking certain workflows. One such example is for making notes about title changes and tracking them across several records. It would be nice if there was a "print full record" option, both in the MD editor and in the repository hit list. Right now, we need to either do print screens or do a screen capture and print from that. Thank you!

  11. Provide ability to "Catalog set" and "Filter set" on sets of authorities

Under 'Manage Sets' we are able to send sets of less than 30 bibliographic records directly to the Metadata Editor by clicking 'Catalog set'. We can also filter sets of less than 30 bibliographic records using indication rules by clicking "Filter set". These functionalities are not available for sets of authority records.

Existing authorities often will not be available to cataloguers using F3 if there are any coding mismatches from what Alma expects. This is much too big of a job to handle manually.

It would greatly improve authority control, especially cleaning up old authorities, to be able to filter…

  12. In Metadata Editor, open records by MMS id directly

It's common to have a list of MMS ids that need to be worked on in Metadata Editor. The current workflow is to do a repository search, be taken out of MDE, click "Edit Record" and wait to be slowly taken back into MDE.

It would speed things up *tremendously* if there was a way for users in MDE to input an MMS id and just have the record open up straight away.

  13. Decouple the bib-level material type of Music into Scores and Sound Recordings

The bibliographic material type of Music inexplicably combines scores (Leader/06 c or d) and sound recordings (Leader/06 i or j) into a single facet. This makes no sense and makes standard statistics reporting extremely difficult as scores are usually reported with books (they are, after all, pieces of paper bound between covers) whereas sound recordings are usually reported with other media. Scores should be separated out as its own bib-level material type.

  14. Management tags for new bibs - allow default to be changed to 'Don't publish' to WorldCat.

The default when creating a new marc21 bib is for the management tag 'Force export to WorldCat' to be set to 'Publish bib'. This applies even when the Library isn't a member of OCLC. I'd like the default behaviour to be configurable so that 'Don't publish' can be set as default by those libraries who choose not to do so. In our case this would then mirror our existing stock, which was migrated from our previous LMS/ILS with the tag set to 'Don't publish'. In turn if a Library chose to join OCLC at a later date all items would…

  15. Reminders : extend the Add reminder functionality to other roles (only Cataloger now)

Reminders functionality could be more effective if extended to other roles than only cataloger role. At least Electronic and Physical inventory operators should be able to add a reminder on a Bib record in a repository search result.
The managing of reminders from Cataloging menu can be limited to catalogers.

  16. controlled vocabulary list upload

    Hi,

Instead of create term by term when working with controlled vocabulary, enable the option of upload an excel file or any csv file that will do that.

  17. Add validating MARC field and record character limits

Please add the capability when validating records to check for MARC field and record character limits (9,999 and 99,999 octets respectively, https://www.loc.gov/marc/specifications/specrecstruc.html). We understand that Alma does not impose character limits on MARC fields and records, but we often exchange records with other vendors or companies. We need this feature to ensure that our data transfers properly and does not exceed data limits imposed by the MARC format.

  18. Allow the font to be changed/enlarged in the MD Editor

In the MD Editor it is currently impossible to change the font size or type. Could this please be changed? Catalogers expect this functionality, as both Voyager Cataloging and the OCLC Connexion client allow users to change the font size and type. Thank you for considering this request.

  19. Missing subfields in authority records

    Some of the subfields are missing from the authorities in Alma - in particular subfields for 100 and 700 MARC tags are f, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t
Please include all subfields that can be used in authorities

  20. Authority creation - Populate 670 Source Data Found from open bib

When creating an authority by F3 searching from a bib record and clicking "Create authority record", no data is linked from the bib. Voyager populated bib information in new authorities to track and differentiate headings.

Please populate the 670 field (Source Data Found) in the new authority record with Title, date in $a and MMS ID in $w.

    This would look like: 670 ##$a [245$a], [260/264$c] $w [001]
