1. Allow customization of the display on the Primo Services Page so that metadata from the OpenURL doesn't present as a matched resource

   Currently, when a user follows an OpenURL link to a Primo Services page, the page takes the metadata fields from the OpenURL and presents them in a format that mirrors the "Brief record display" from Primo search results and full record displays. This is misleading to users, who assume that the OpenURL has found a match for a resource when in fact they may not have.

   We would like to be able to configure a separate display for the Primo Services Page, so that we can make it clearer to users that what they are seeing is a formatted version of the metadata, and not necessarily a citation for a legitimate resource. The need for this has always existed, but we believe it is becoming more pressing as we are seeing increasing numbers of fake, AI-generated citations in databases that generate links to our Primo.

2. Enable the Hebrew Acronym file in CDI

   I would like the Hebrew Acronym file to work in the same manner for local and remote records and enable the correct retrieval of records with any of the many Hebrew words that are comprised of initials (eg פלמ"ח, תנ"ך, תשנ"א, אדמו"ר, בג"ץ, רמב"ם, מפא"י…….).

   Currently, searching a term either with or without the " sign will retrieve the term both with and without the quotation sign (") but ONLY for local records. Until this will work in CDI, many remote records will not be retrievable when searching terms that can be written in both ways (with or without the " sign).

4. Add filter for "Available Now" (i.e. not checked out etc.) to Availability filter/facet

   The Availability filter/facet in Primo VE currently includes options to limit by "Available online" and "Held by library". It would be helpful if these options could be further refined to enable filtering to materials that are actually currently fully available/accessible -- for example, not checked out to another user or in another out-of-library processing status. This is functionality that I see in other library catalogs, especially for electronic resources/ebook collections.

5. Several items in a single request

   In the current context of global health crisis and containment, many of our libraries can only offer Click&Collect service for physical documentation access. Then, it seems critical to make the request service evolve in Primo (and Alma for the tracking).
   Indeed, a reader who wants to request several documents must do so one by one from the bibliographic record by selecting the "pickup location", possibly a "start date", an "end date" and a "comment".
   Couldn't you consider the possibility of creating a basket and then being able to request the entire basket at once?

6. Improve Display Logic in Alma Uresolver to show all variant coverage statements in a collapsed menu

   Ideally, Alma should be able to display ALL unique variant coverage statements when showing a collapsed menu.

   If a library uses the Display Logic rules to for example show Proquest as an option only once in a services menu, this works very well where a journal may be in 12 Proquest databases with the same coverage.

   However, when the coverage varies significantly between these databases, Alma uresolver will still just show one of the coverage statements and a user will only see a subset of holdings and believe this is all the library has. (eg Nursing standard in Proquest is a good example in some it is 1998-2013 and others is 2015 +, )

   The most obvious case is when using the A-Z list or a general Primo search to find a journal title.

   In SFX it is possible to add a year or source parameter to the display logic rule so that the collapse display logic only applies when the user specifies a date or when the open url does not come from the A-Z list. This means that a user wanting to use Primo or the A-Z to see ALL date holdings of a given serial title could see all possible links with their coverage statements, not just one statement per provider.

   It would be better if the collapsed menu could be preserved and all the unique holding statements were shown, however, the SFX logic of conditionally showing all links is preferable to the current Alma behaviour.

   Ideally, Alma should be able to display ALL unique variant coverage statements when showing a collapsed menu.

7. Allow patrons to order a specific item in a fulfillment network

   Hi

   We are in a consortium with a fulfillment network.

   Which in many cases means that the patrons can not pick which copy of a book they want to order.

   While this may make sense as the default (1), it is frustrating for many patrons, myself included.

   • When more than one copy is available, I want to be able to decide which one to get
     
   • When a book is on loan I may prefer to wait for the copy of my favorite library to come back instead of getting the book from somewhere else

   This is especially relevant when I'm in a setting where getting a copy from another library costs me money.

   The option 'choose specific item' should be available in the full title display (when logged in). If this is not possible, it could be an option in the patron settings.

8. Ignore call number prefix (subfield k) when indexing for Call Number Browse

   Primo's browse search "By Library of Congress Call Numbers" includes the call number prefix (holdings record field 852 $k) when generating the browse list. At UGA, we use that prefix for oversize volumes (Folio, Ff), and for a variety of branch locations, special statuses and shelving areas (Juv, Ref, Vet Med, etc.).

   As a result, any holdings with a prefix do not show up alongside holdings in the same call number range, essentially hiding many titles from patrons interested in browsing the shelf list. (This would be an issue for staff as well, but shelf list browsing works correctly in Alma.)

   Please reconfigure Primo's browse search to ignore (but, ideally, still display) the call number prefix when generating this index.

9. Related titles in Primo VE records display: separate window

   When records have bib-to-bib relationships via 8XX (or 7XX), the list of related titles is displayed in the Details section of the series/host record. Unfortunately, the list is currently sorted alphabetically by the title, which is very user-unfriendly with a large number of linked titles.

   This behavior has already been criticized in this idea. Unfortunately, it is still not possible to sort the related titles logically by sequence or volume.

   The Austrian Library Association (OBV) uses Primo BO and has implemented a user-friendly solution for displaying related titles:
   In the case of multi-volume works and series, the individual volumes are displayed via a link in a separate window. There the volumes can be sorted by publication date, relevance etc.

   Austria is working with PLK fields for their solution. During the publishing process from Alma to Primo, the related records are added as PLK fields to the source record. For an example, please see here the source record for Opere.

10. Display all blocks and patron limits in Primo My Account

    The My Account page in Primo only displays blocks of the blocks tab in the Alma user details page so that a patron who logs in Primo and unsuccessfully attemps to renew an item from the library isn’t notified about blocks that are applied based on patron limits/ library-definied rules such as maximum cash limit. The My Account page should display all blocks.

11. NZ/IZ linking in consortia

    Background: MARC 776 is used to establish a link between related records (Also available in another form:). If a link cannot be established, a title search is started instead.

    In a consortial environment, there is an issue with this: Primo VE is only able to establish a link if both the linking and the linked-to title are available locally. This happens because Primo depends on Alma functionality for related records to establish a link and Alma is building them within institution scope only (Network is considered just another institution in this regard). This means that as soon as only the linking title is available in an IZ, a title search will be started.

    To give an example: We have a journal with the main title “Recht” (Law), which links to an electronic version of the same title. In IZ that do not have the electronic version, a title search for Recht/law will be started instead, leading to over 27’000 results – from a link that promised to lead to a different version of the same title.     This behaviour makes 776 largely unusable for consortia, where it would be important for that our patrons are able to find resources that are not available locally as well or where we’d at least want a system that can recognize if something is locally available and only displays the link in this case.

12. Remove the character limit for the Resource Recommender Description field

    Currently, there is either no limit or a large limit on the Description field of the Resource Recommender when files are uploaded from Excel.

    However, if you open an existing Recommender to edit something (fix a typo, add additional keywords, update a URL), you are not permitted to save unless the Description field has fewer than 300 characters. This means I opt not to fix my typos, and I have to spend the time to rewrite the description to fit into <= 300 characters in order to update a URL. I find this limitation very frustrating.

    Please either remove or substantially increase the character limit on the Resource Recommender Description field.

13. Determine source for Autocomplete-suggestions in a blended scope

    In Primo you can activate autocomplete to get suggestions for search-queries based on what the end-user begins to type in the search-box.

    We have tested the functionality and see that it could be useful for the end user to get these suggestions. However we see that the suggestions from the central index in some cases are a little strange and that you get suggestions from the entire index and not only the sources the institution has activated. This means that the end-user could get suggestions that gives 0 results.

    The local index suggestions seems to be a lot more accurate and useful.

    The source for suggestions are determined based on the scope. For local scopes you get the local suggestions, for a remote scope you get suggestions from the central index and in the blended scope you get suggestions from both local and central index.

    We would like an option in the scope-definitions in Primo to decide the source of suggestions for blended scopes. Meaning that we could decide that we would like to get only the suggestions from the local index and not from the central index in blended scopes.

    Collection Discovery pages are great but loading 10 at a time is not enough. Would like to see adjustable results dial similar to what was recently released in Alma. Perhaps even up to 100 results on a page would be sufficient.

16. Physical items sort routine by date - enable I J K descending, but A B C ascending

    We're running into a problem with the Physical items sort routine - Sort according to date.

    For journals, we want to sort the latest item on top, this works correctly with
    Sort according to chronology I/U/K (year/month/day) - Descending

    The same sort routine is also used for multi volume monographs.
    We found out that if we only fill out conditions for Chronology I J K, but those fields are empty, the barcode gets used for sorting.
    Which leads to wrong sorts.

    So we had to add
    Enumeration A, B, C as a condition.

    This leads to a display where volume 1 is last in the list.
    This is not what we want.

18. Add DOI and PMID to Advanced Search Indexes in Primo VE

    DOI and PMID searching can be augmented for enhancement in keyword searching in Primo VE, so that these identifiers can be searches as keywords. It would be very helpful to our researchers to be able to more efficiently and exactly search within Advanced Search fields for DOI and PMID. These fields can be searched within unique fields in the Citation Linker, so the indexes exist, but they are not available for inclusion in Advanced Search settings. We would like to be able to add DOI and PMID as options in Advanced Search settings in Primo VE.

19. Ranking of search results by Resource Sharing Library

    Concerning search results in Primo : could it be made possible to rank different holdings of the same title by Resource Sharing Library of the patron? This way the patron would see on top of the list the item that is the easiest accessible to him. At present patrons often request items from another library because they did not notice the title is also available at their own library.

20. We would like patrons to be able to view their library barcode in Primo.

    Under My Library Account > Personal Details, we think patrons should be able to view their library barcode number. We use ours in additional systems, and we think it would be helpful to point someone to their library account details.
