  2. We would like the ability to weight certain PCI results higher than others (ie. Hathitrust)

We have an example journal of Index Medicus. When we search this record in our blended local and PCI search the hathitrust PCI record does not display until the 3rd-4th page: https://purdue-primo-prod.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/primo-explore/search?query=any,contains,index%20medicus&tab=default_tab&search_scope=everything&sortby=rank&vid=PURDUE&mode=Basic&offset=0

If we want to withdraw the print record, because it is available in hathitrust, having this on the 3rd-4th page is not acceptable. We would like the ability to boost or weight certain PCI resources, based on the collection name, higher within our results.

This request seems somewhat related to:
    https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/16944994-provide-institutions-with-the-ability-to-systemati
    https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/16945003-provide-institutions-with-the-ability-to-systemati

Although this request to me is more generic than both of those, but seemingly related.

    Thanks!

  3. Improve Browse by Subject (Primo VE)

In Primo VE, only one of “vocabulary” is available - “Library of Congress Subject Headings.” The choice to use this “vocabulary” is automatically made for you when you choose “Browse by Library of Congress Subject.” The index “Library of Congress name authority records for 651” is not available through this search as it is through the Metadata Editor via Alma. Thus, many, many LC subject headings cannot actually be browsed in Primo VE. Example, you can find NO headings beginning with “Colombia – Commerce,” because there is no LC subject authority for “Colombia – Commerce” or for any further subdivision…

  4. Hover-over article abstract in PRIMO VE

Currently, patrons need to go into the full article record from the brief results page to read abstracts. We would like to suggest that PRIMO VE provide the user with a hover-over article abstract on the brief results page so patrons can skim abstracts before going into the full record.

  5. Hierarchical labels for sub-collections in Collections hierarchy

When browsing the Collections hierarchy there is a separate label for top level collections and for sub-collections (at whatever level). We would like to be able to have separate labels according to values contained in the bib records. This would allow the different levels of a complex sub-collection hiearchy to be expressed appropriately: e.g. it would allow us to reflect transparently the structure of our archival collections: Collection - Series - File - Item. it could also allow the hierarchy of different types of collections to be expressed differentially.

  6. Add filter for "Available Now" (i.e. not checked out etc.) to Availability filter/facet

The Availability filter/facet in Primo VE currently includes options to limit by "Available online" and "Held by library". It would be helpful if these options could be further refined to enable filtering to materials that are actually currently fully available/accessible -- for example, not checked out to another user or in another out-of-library processing status. This is functionality that I see in other library catalogs, especially for electronic resources/ebook collections.

  7. Primo Analytics - add the ability to monitor availability link clicks by availability category

Currently usage statistics may be generated using the "Click on availability statement" Analytics action, however there is no way to differentiate clicks on say, "Available at" (for physical resources) and "Check online access".

We would like the ability to extract availability clicks by category:

    Check online access
    Available at
    No full text
    etc.

    General use cases:

To help us decide what types of links should display where and in what order in Primo.

    More specific use case:

To help us understand how patrons are accessing electronic resources. For instance, we have added the BrowZine PDF fulltext link to Primo. We…

  8. Increase Primo search capability to support major common search expansions on synonyms.

    Salesforce case #00583901 refers (unpublished)

Ex Libris advises that, due to performance considerations, Primo search is unable to support the search expansion for the spelling variants that include the use of 's' or 'z' within a word. This is a common trans-Atlantic spelling variation, and omitting it has a significant impact on search results.

Example: a search for the terms “practice globalisation” produces 441,248 results, but by changing the 's' in globalisation to a 'z', Primo produces an additional 12,000 search results.

  10. Primo VE: Allow Exclusion of Institution Zone only records from Discovery Network/NZ Scope

In consortial environments, the Network Scope includes Institution Zone only records such as laptops, keys, etc.

We would like the capability to exclude IZ only records from a Discovery Network scope so that we can display only records that are NZ bibs, not local IZ with no NZ bibs.

  11. Improve the Cite them Right Harvard CSL file to correct errors

Cite them Right Harvard does not display correctly. I have a 2 page list of errors! e.g. Surname, First name, when it should be Surname, initial. In journals the publisher appears.
Please work with Cite them Right Online to fix this as it is used by multiple libraries in the UK.

  12. Drag/drop results facets

We would like to be able to let our users personalize their search experience by dragging and dropping results facets into different positions in the list. For example, our first facet is Show Only. If a user wanted to see Material Type or Publication Date first, they could simply drag one of those facets to the top of the list. Making those choices persistent through a session and/or through their own personal account would be even better.

  14. Smart login messages - Do not show login message in the ViewIt for Open Access material

If a user is not logged in they get the Login message on the ViewIt and GetIt tab, whether they need to login to access that resource or not.

    For example, Open Access material.

We have had many instances of users complaining that they have to login to access OA material. In fact they do not need to login to access this material. The Primo login message is confusing and misleading the user to think that they do need to login.
See for example the following Open Access material in our Primo instance.

  15. Configure fields included in Course Information

We would like to be able to modify the default configuration of Course Information field displayed in the details view of the full record in Primo VE, adding to or deleting the default elements (Course ID, Department Name, Course Instructor Name) or changing their order. For example, an institution may want to include only Course ID and Instructor Name but not Department Name here. This is not currently possible.

    Hi,

This is to update that this issue is still not planned to be developed in the current road map. We will continue to evaluate it for a future release.

Therefore we are keeping this under "Under review" status.

    Best regards,

    Yael.

  16. Dedup and FRBR cluster monitoring

Since BIRT reports in back office are being deprecated and they are not available in VE, those who implement Dedup or FRBR will have no way to monitor the clusters that goes beyond what's currently in analytics (just a report of cluster sizes). Size of clusters is important, but when "impossibly large" clusters form (we recently noticed many, up to 89 members!), we need to be able to see the records forming the cluster in order to diagnose problems. The BIRT tool is way too slow and unwieldly for this purpose but provides useful information: contents of the fields that…

  17. Use of initial articles in title starts with searches in Primo Advanced Search

Primo is currently unable to adequately accommodate initial articles (a, an, the etc.) when doing a title starts with search in Advanced Search.

The first title field that appears in the sort section of the PNX is used as the title that is matched against when doing a title starts with search but this leads to different outcomes depending on whether the records are indexed from PCI or Alma:

When the title field in the sort section of the PNX is created from Alma the default behaviour is to strip the initial article
When the title field in the sort…

  18. Do Not Highlight Stop Words in the Results of a Keyword Search

There is no value to highlighting words in the search results of a keyword search that were considered STOP words when the search was conducted.

Words such as AND, THE, OR, IN, TO, etc., provide no value on their own and should not be highlighted. Not only does highlighting them add visual noise to the search results, it sends the wrong message to users about how to construct a strong search string.

As the screenshot shows, the highlighting is only adding noise.

  19. Change order of holdings for e-journals in ViewIt

Allow the institution to determine the ordering of resources in the ViewIt section of Primo. The single select options would include:
    • By Date – Ascending
    • By Date – Descending
    • Alphabetical
    • (Not sure if there are others)

Currently e-journal titles with multiple holdings are displayed in alphabetical order. When each holding has a different date range, it can be difficult to scan quickly. This would allow each institution to select what works best for their users.

  20. Primo Analytics - Ability to report on all search strings, not just Popular and Zero Results

Primo Analytics currently only includes search string data for Popular and Zero Results subject areas. It would be a vast improvement to be able to see all search string results.
Note: This functionality is available via BIRT, but only by individual reports by first letter of the alphabet, which are unwieldy and essentially unusable in loading so slowly (and often not at all).
