Add more flexibility in Request TOU Pickup Locations policy
We’d like more flexibility in Request TOU Pickup Locations policy.
We have more than 20 libraries and most of them are located within walking distance. Therefore, we want our patrons to go directly to those libraries instead of placing pickup requests and limit the patrons who can place such requests. Otherwise, the number of requests will become too large to handle and logistics and management cost will become enormous. Moreover, it’s not time efficient. If users go directly, they can borrow immediately, but it may take 1-2 days to deliver since there is no direct route between some libraries.
Currently, we cannot achieve the above requirement in Alma. If more options are added to the Pickup Locations policy, libraries in the similar situation will also benefit.
For example, it would be more flexible if there are “In List (where we can select one or more libraries in our Institution)”, “In other Campus”, or “In other Libraries” options in the Request TOU Pickup Locations policy.
Another idea is to allow staff to override pickup locations and deliver-to relationship policies so that they can place any pickup request on behalf of patrons when appropriate. It will also be beneficial for those who need special assistance.

I agree with Florence Lanz - the suggested solution from NERS would solve so many problems we have with the pickup TOU, and it is a shame that it didn't get enough votes through the NERS process. Hopefully Ex Libris can still implement this through Idea Exchange.

It sounds great!

Unfortunately, the associated NERS-request did not receive enough votes for implementation. However, Ex Libris offered a great solution to the above-mentioned issue, which I'll allow myself to share here:
"The suggested solution will be -
It will be possible to configure In the Fulfillment configuration an institutional list of 'Pickup groups'. Each row in the 'pickup group' table is made of:
The pickup group code
A library name
Optional - a specific reading room nameFor example, the institution may define 2 groups:
East libraries
West Libraries and one east reading room
West Libraries and all east reading rooms'The 'East libraries' may be defined as:
E1 library
E2 libraryThe 'West Libraries and one east reading room' may be defined as:
W1 library
W2 Library
E1 reading roomThe 'West Libraries and all east reading rooms' may be defined as:
W1 library
W2 Library
E1 reading room
E2 reading roomThe pickup groups will appear in the list of options when defined a Pickup Location policy. Therefore, it will be possible to define a pickup policy of 'West Libraries and one east reading room', and set this policy in a request TOU.
If an item may be request as per the 'West Libraries and one reading room' policy then all of the pickup locations of this group will appear as selectable options.
Changing the pickup group setup will affect the recalculate process as does changing the policy value.
Deleting a pickup group will not be possible if it is used in a policy. A 'Show Related policies' action will enable reporting a list of the policies that made use of the group, similar to the 'Show related terms of use' option for policies."As there is such a good suggestion in place, maybe it could be implemented through the Idea Exchange here?

More granularity in the choice of pickup location would be extremely helpful!

We strongly support this idea, as we also need further options in the pickup locations options of the TOUs.
We have seven courier libraries, which deliver items to each other. However, the reading room items of one library are only meant to be sent to the reading room of one of these courier libraries.
Currently, the items can only be requested to be picked up at all reading rooms or the one of the owning library (which is the wrong one).
The solution of an in-list-choice outlined above would solve this issue for us and we hope it will be considered for development.
Attached you will find an example of how we would like to set up the item policies accordingly.

This would be a tremendous help. For example, we have an issue where an offsite storage facility has a relationship to deliver books to a library on campus but a special library on campus would like to allow just their faculty to request items to be delivered to the special library. As it is, if we add the special library as a Deliver To relation to the storage facility the special library would be available as a pick up location to all users and the special library is not set up for that kind of workflow.
It we can specify in the TOU that requests made by the special library's faculty can go to either the special library or the library on campus and that all others can only choose the library on campus it would be so helpful. As it is the special library has chosen so far not to implement their delivery service to their faculty members which is a shame.

I agree with the comments below. We require greater granularity to enable us to allow specific locations as pick up options for specific campus user groups.

Hi,
We are also in a similar situation.
We need to set up different pickup location, that are suitable for our needs, but some of them are missing.
The pickup location policy that is missing is "At any campus reading room"I hope you will consider it,

We're in a similar position where we wish to enable specific locations in a Library to be able to be picked up at a Library (or libraries) that we define but the current rules just aren't granular enough for us to be able to do that. We've looked at the relationship rules but they define what happens at the Library rather than location level.
Like Aya we'd like to have another pickup location rule added in the TOU that would allow us to specific which libraries could be selected for pickup

Dear Moshe,
Thank you for the comments.
We’ve been discussing this matter with our Project Manager for months but could not find a way with any combinations of the library relations, the Fulfillment Unit’s ‘On Shelf Request Policy’, and the ‘Pickup Locations' policy.
We would like to set the ‘Pickup Locations’ policy by user group. The library relations and ‘On Shelf Request Policy’ can only be configured on the library-level. The ‘Pickup Locations’ policy can be defined per user group, but only has ‘in Library’, ‘In Institution’, ‘In Campus’, ‘In Patron Affiliated Campus’, ‘At Library Reading Room’, ‘At Any Reading Room’, and ‘At Any Institution’ as values and none of them meet our requirement. Therefore, we need more options for the “Pickup Locations’ values or override options for ‘Pickup Locations’ and ‘Deliver-to Relationship’ policies.

Hi,
Why can't the library relations be used to limit the delivery options ? Also, the Fulfillment Unit's 'On Shelf Request Policy' can be used to limit requests on available items, for example for pickup in different campus only. Can that not be useful for this requirement ?
Thanks,
Moshe -

I regret that I only have but one vote to give to this. We also have a consortium with most of the libraries easily accessible to each other, but two are not. This would help us craft more flexible TOUs to serve our users.
