  1. Add library location name and/or code to advanced search options

I'd like to submit for reconsideration an idea that was posted back in 2020 but which unfortunately didn't receive enough votes to be considered for future development at that time. My own library has only been using Primo VE since May 2024, so we didn't get a chance to vote for the original post.

    The previous post is at:

    https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/39421237-add-library-location-to-advanced-search-options

The earlier post was limited to adding the library location name as an advanced search drop-down filter. I'm expanding it somewhat here as a request to add library location name and/or location code as filter options. This is something we…

  2. new bibliographic releases in primo

Some time ago, a proposal was made to modify the criteria for the elaboration of new bibliographic releases (New records facet according to inventary record) so that it would be based on the date of receipt of the issue instead of the date of its creation, since in the case of novelties in the last week, many issues that were recently incorporated are often lost, but the issue was created in connection with a POL.

By implementing this proposal, the catalog could make it easier for its users to manage new items with shorter periods.

    Thanks,
    Juanjo

  3. Add more than 7 lines – Advanced searches only include a maximum of seven search criteria lines

Could we have the capability to include more than seven lines in the advanced search function? In Summon, Web of Science and numerous other platforms, there is an unlimited possibility to select more lines.
Given that our users frequently search using both Danish and English keywords, the seven-line limit is often reached when both languages are used in an 'OR' search.

  4. Sort Favorites by Call Number

Allow sorting of "My Favorites" by Call Number. Currently, you can only sort "My Favorites" by Date Added, Author, and Title.

  6. Enable separate search profiles, scopes, and slots for Advanced Search

We request the ability to display search profiles, scopes, and slots separately and selectively in Simple and Advanced Search. Today, any search profile added to a search configuration automatically appears in both Simple and Advanced Search together; it is not possible to configure them separately. We would like the option to display the profiles, scopes, and slots in Simple Search only, or Advanced Search only, or both. We request this at all levels of search profile/scope/slot configuration. We have developed scopes based on special collections. Given the nature of the content, it would be beneficial to only have scopes available…

  7. Change how permalinks work

The permalinks provided by Primo do not link to a specific Alma record; instead, they save the result of a search in Primo. This means that when we copy a permalink for a title included in a course, what we are doing when using it is initiating a search for that title in the recommended bibliography collection. Therefore, if that title is no longer included in a course, the permalink we had copied stops working. This is not very useful.
We request that the permalinks provided by Primo be truly permanent and always direct to that Alma record, without changes.…

  8. Provide option to disable course information being indexed for search in Primo VE

We have chosen not to display course information in our Primo VE but found that local records appear higher in our search results when they are attached to a Leganto reading list. Support tell me that 'it is part of OTB and by default it will be indexed’.

In the ‘Search Section Mapping’ part of the 'Mapping to the Display, Facets, and Search Sections in the Primo VE Record' Knowledge Center page, it says: 'Course information – Primo VE indexs the course name, code, and instructor for records associated with course reading lists.'

We don't understand why course and instructor…

  9. Gather sessions where a user performed a search and then selected an item

Currently only one action can be tied to a session at a time—not multiple actions like a basic search and a full record display; therefore, number of sessions and number of actions are counted separately.
Tracking the number/percentage of searches that led to selecting an item can provide insight into relevance ranking and collection usage.

  10. Consistent display of the "Search Inside" feature for Journal, Magazine, and Newspaper records

Primo VE was developed in 2017 with a "Search Inside" feature, originally appearing only on Journal type records. In 2019 when CDI was developed Newspaper and Magazine types were added to the discovery environment.
Unfortunately It appears that Ex Libris forgot to consider local records holistically, despite that Newspaper is an out-of-the-box configured type for Alma in Primo VE and many of their customers offer a blended search experience for their patrons.
This is evidenced in an inconsistency that Search Inside displays on Newspaper records from CDI and fails to display on Newspaper records for local records. It will also…

  11. Add a uniqueness comparison check for local fields in a dedup record, and only display one instance of a non-unique field

It became possible in November 2024 to display instances of a local field from all records in a Dedup record in Primo VE (Configuration > Discovery > Other > Local fields to display from all dedup members).
The feature displays up to 10 instances of a field from records in the dedup group.
This is a useful and welcome development to ensure patrons have access to all the metadata of the work.
However, there is an issue that the data displays regardless if it is exactly the same in multiple records, despite that there is no usefulness for a patron…

  12. Add a Collection title field for Collection Discovery, for full record display and search

Adding records to a collection in Collection Discovery automatically adds them to the out-of-the-box Digital Collections facet in main Primo by the Collections title value.
It would be a significant boost to discovery of these resources both individually and collectively in the main Primo environment if there was also a Collection title field available to be added to the full record display, which could be configured as a lateral hypertext link, and searchable by the collection title as keywords.
This would marry together the main Primo environment with the Collection Discovery environment, with the ability to travel between each to…

  13. Allow GES to access coverage information to calculate available services for articles

Our library uses GES service availability rules to disable our ILL services request link for articles “when resource is owned by the institution and available.” However, GES interprets a journal as available if we have coverage for any length of time, even if coverage is not available for the article in question. This leads to a number of CDI articles showing “No services available,” as we do not have an available link for access (not having coverage for that particular date/issue), and the ILL link is disabled because the system thinks we have coverage. It would be helpful to have…

  14. User-defined favorite libraries that get preferential ranking in the Brief Display, the Get It section and Libraries facet

The idea is to introduce a new feature: "Favorite Libraries". In the Library Card, patrons could select their favorite library or libraries (regardless of the IZ to which they are affiliated to, in case of a consortium). Consequently, in the Brief Display, this choice influence the ranking of the records, in the GetIt section, the system first displays items from the selected favorite library(ies) on top. In the facet "libraries" where results are sorted by library, the system would display the favorite libraries on top, before other libraries.

  15. The Resource Sharing Request Form and Hold Request Form should allow letters in the start page, end page, and Pages to Photocopy fields.

There are a number of academic journals that use alphabet characters when numbering their publications- especially in supplement volumes. These characters should be allowed when patrons submit requests for materials.

  16. Recommendation system for learning and research resources

Academic libraries increasingly act as an ecosystem for learning and research resources. Therefore, they need a platform that can serve as an ecosystem to guide academic users.

Target: Incorporate into Primo VE a recommendation system that, based on users' searches, gives recommendations at the resource level (e.g., article, book, book chapter, case study, image, thesis, etc.).

Output: After the user searches, Primo VE provides a list of prioritized learning or research resources, sorted by their thematic relevance or visualisation-based popularity.

Parameters: The recommendation system should match the query with the users' profile (e.g., career, under|postgraduate level, etc.) after they log…

  18. Improve Citation Action

We would like to summarize in this idea exchange several issues we have run into with the citation action that inhibit the usefulness of the functionality for our customers greatly. Most of these relate to a lack of language sensitivity on the incoming side of the citation action. We would think it would be good if Ex Libris could work towards an improvement here, maybe together with the Citation Styles Language Project.

The formatting for the page count should be p.DDD-DDD or p. DDD-DDD in 773 $$g according to Ex Libris. The issue with this is that when our cataloguing…

  19. Ahead of print articles

I would love to see some regulations or procedure set in place for articles not yet published from being published in primo. I understand this is a vastly complex issue but curious if anyone else has had these issues as well and ideas on the topic.
    Per Ex Libris
Ex Libris's goal is to reflect the provider’s content and metadata and cannot directly make changes in our databases without the provider making these changes. If the provider has sent us a record for an article that is not yet published, or not yet assigned to a specific volume/issue, you will…

  20. Index Item Description in Primo VE

We record the monographic titles of periodical issues only in the Item Description field and not in the periodical bibliographic record.
This item field is searchable in Alma but not in Primo VE.
We need that the Item Description field to also be searchable in Primo VE.
