Make "Physical Item Condition Field" options configurable
The new feature "Physical Item Condition Field" was a good idea.
However, the condition options should be completely configurable. Currently the only options are:
Brittle
Damaged
Deteriorating
Fragile
The current condition options seem extremely similar to each other.
Each institution should be able to completely configure this field, including hiding the field entirely, adding/removing options, hiding/displaying options, renaming/relabelling, reordering the options.

As of February 2024, libraries can now configure the list of physical conditions that can be selected to describe the item in the physical item condition field.

Dear all, I would like to update on our planned solution:
A new "Physical Item Condition" table will be available, in which it will be possible to add and remove conditions, as well as update a condition's description or translation. -
Dear all, we would like to update that we have plans to add more condition fields, and to make the descriptions of these conditions configurable by the institution, on our 2024 roadmap.

This has been planned since 2019. When will it happen please? So much support for this.

Buenos días, agradeceríamos considerar que la condición física de los libros se agregue en la carta de préstamo al usuario. Para que quede constancia del estado en el que se prestó el artículo al usuario.
Saludos cordiales.

The physical condition of an item should be displayed in Primo and this should be configurable (Yes or No)

The physical condition should also be added to the loan letter to the user. So that there is a record of the state in which the item was lent to the user.

When will you implement this idea?
We agree with Sunshine Carter about "Each institution should be able to completely configure this field, including hiding the field entirely, adding/removing options, hiding/displaying options, renaming/relabelling, reordering the options." -

Is there any indication on date for this one? in planning for a long time.

The list has to be configurable by the institutions so it can be in highly qualitative language (other than English). Unfortunately, translations into German are often quite poor, so I would like to do this myself.

I notice this is still listed as under review. Do we know when it will be implemented? I'm very keen to configure this for our Art Collection.

What I would love to also see is the possibility to somehow connect Physical Item Condition to work orders. Today, if a book with many requests is returned and it is damaged in any way, we place a work order for the Bindary. But as the book is already returned, the next patron in line will get the book first despite the higher priority of the work order. Not sure how this should be accomplished, but it would be great if it was possible to fix this. Maybe through an automated explanatory e-mail to the patron?

I agree with many of these comments. This could be a useful field but it needs to be able to be configured for local use so that users aren't restricted to the current 4 options.

It would be nice to be able to use this field to indicate if parts of a resource are missing. For instance, if a DVD is missing from a set of DVDs, to be able to indicate that Disc 2 is missing. We currently put this information in a note but that means having to click on the Notes tab.

I second Karin Ruhmannseder's suggestion of also having the physical condition pop up when the item is scanned in to replace the redundancy of having to put in a fulfillment note. But, yes, the options for physical conditions now are too limited and similar to each other. Thank you.

Is there any movement on developing this? It's been Under Review since October 2018, but I was disappointed to see no mention of it on the recently released updated Alma Roadmap.

We are consider to enable two level of condition field: The first will be the existing one. the second will be configurable by the institution. Each institution will map its condition to the out of the box condition defined today.
It should enable both to keep a know mapping to condition by Alma and flexibility to the institution to have it own granularity.

Another thing I'd like to suggest:
The physical condition should pop up when the item is scanned in, loaned or returned so that you don't have to add a fulfillment note. -

Itai,
Here is what we, at Minnesota have. We use work orders for our preservation. The list is our own in-house list and demonstrates why it would be best to let individual institutions configure the list as they deem necessary.

Itai,
Yes, we are collecting the information and composing an answer for you. Of course, what we have on our list is not what other institutions might have, which is why the field should be customizable. More shortly.
