Ability to search via free text MARC tag and subfields
We would like to have an advanced search option that allows us to enter the MARC tag number (and subfields) for searching, in both bibliographic and holdings records. This would also require the option for keyword indexing of all MARC fields.
It is now possible to create indication rules using a structured form, thus making the process easy and intuitive. The new format enables entering the different fields and subfields and values in a wizard-like fashion, and provides popup assistance when entering tags and tag names.

This is really needed. Having to submit a request and use case for every new instance when we need to search a field or subfield means we then have to wait a long time for each request to be reviewed by Ex Libris, who may decide not to do it anyway. That is a highly inefficient way to tweak the system. Indication rules are complicated and cannot be created by everyone who needs to do this type of searching. These two things combined mean numerous search needs are not being met.

I really miss this feature from our old library system. As cataloguers we need to search specific MARC tags, not just an index or a label name. I would like it in both advanced search and analytics.

Sadly, Bill is probably right :-( That doesn't mean I won't continue to vote for this. Not everyone who would make good use of a MARC tag search can or should have access to build and use indication rules. Not to mention, why go through a multi-step process when simply indexing the information THAT IS ALREADY THERE would be quicker?

I do not want to disappoint you but this has been asked for before and the Indication Rule function was added to deal with this for bibliographic records. Yes, your suggestion would be great and using Indication Rules is a painful experience, but do not get your hopes up that ExLibris will deliver it.

Building sets this way would make my life so much easier.
