  1. May release : deletion of empty holdings.

    Dear all
the May release introduced a change concerning the deletion of empty holdings:

The 'Delete Holdings' link in the 'List of Holdings' page, which was formerly visible to users with the 'Physical Inventory Operator' role, is now visible only to users who have the 'Physical Inventory Operator Extended' role.

This change is a problem because not all the operators can have the physical Inventory Operator Extended role: this role allows operators to delete copies and it is quite dangerous.
It would be better for us that operators with the physical inventory role keep the permission to move copies from…

  2. Managing Collections - more options for searching and display

In the Collection Resource Editor (Alma) - it would be really useful to have greater flexibility for searching within a collection. Can we have the option to search by MMS Id and keyword? At the moment only Title and Publisher are available.

This would be really useful when you don't know the specific title/publisher you are looking for - so you want to do a keyword search within the collection to browse. Also if you know the specific MMD id that would be useful too.

  3. Bound-withs - use subfield $i bound with in tag 773 or 774 to separate binding from bibliographic relationships

Alma and Primo should allow institutions to designate 773 or 774 tags (whichever are used by the institution to link bound-with items) as applying to a bound-with item by using subfield $i with the relationship designator “bound with”. They may then configure Alma so that If this designator is not present, no related item linked will display in the Primo GetIt item information (although related titles may appear in the bibliographic description, if desired.

This will enable the libraries to utilize other relationship designators besides the bound-with one, with or without invoking a bound-with relationship in Primo (note that the…

  4. Limit use of material types by specific library

The list of material types used across our consortium is very long. Even though we have turned off those that we don't use, we still have a list of about 65. For most of our libraries, this is overkill, as locations like our Chemistry library only use 4 or 5 at most. Catalogers have to use the full list, which increases the chance of confusion or clicking on the wrong thing for even straightforward cataloging. I want to be able to restrict the material types that can be used at any particular library. This was a feature of another ILS…

  5. Seperate the price and currency in Item's inventory price

The field Inventory price field in physical item contains price and currency while Alma copies price from POL to item. Please seperate the currency into anohter field and make sure the price field is numeric. In this way, the Inventory price field can be counted directly.

  6. Item Material Type master List lacking several types

The master list of Item Material Types is lacking three types commonly used by Special Collections cataloging. Please add Archival material, Broadside, and Poster to the master Item Material Types list.

  7. Add suppress functionality to context menu in list of holdings

When a staff member is looking at a list of holdings for a physical title, the right-click context menu / actions (ellipsis) menu should include a function to suppress holding.

It's inefficient to have to enter the MDE to complete this action. It's inefficient to have to run a job for just a few holdings at a time.

  8. Multiple Quick-Cataloging Templates

    Scenario:
There are multiple workflows and purposes for which the Quick Cataloging interface is used. For example, in course reserves, staff frequently need to create records for different resource formats beyond book and article. Staff at the circulation desks need to create records any time an item brought to the desk is not found in Alma, and these resources can take any form - from sound recordings on CD to equipment like laptop chargers.

    Problem:
Not all of these materials fit the current “book” and “article” templates provided for Quick Cataloging. To enable efficient use of the Quick Cataloging feature,…

  9. Link licenses to physical resources

Allow physical resources to have an attached license similar to electronic resources.

For example, a DVD may have specific educational and/or screening rights that we would like to save as a license and link to the DVD.

  10. Ignore call number prefix ($$k) in BROWSE SHELFLIST in Alma

Alma's Browse Shelflist function includes the call number prefix (holdings record field 852 $$k) when generating the browse list. At the University at Buffalo, we use that prefix for oversize volumes, and for a variety of other sub-locations, designations and shelving areas.

As a result, any holdings with a prefix ($$k) does not show up alongside holdings in the same call number range, essentially hiding many titles from staff who seek to browse the shelf list.

An advanced search for specific library holdings, permanent call number type, and permanent call number does not remedy this issue, as it does not…

  11. Add Storage Location ID to Physical Items Search brief results

We'd like to start using the Storage ID field to track inventory shelved in storage locations. It would be very helpful if this field would display in the Physical Items brief results list, so that operators know right away that the item is in a storage location. Unfortunately, it does not appear to be a field that has been added yet. Please can you add this field to the Physical Items brief results list.

  12. Permanent collections

    Colecciones permanentes:

    Permanent collections:
If a title has all its items assigned to a permanent collection of lost, missing, discarded documents, etc. , the Alma system must prevent the registry from being recovered and viewed through Primo, so…

We need Location Priority function in Alma-Primo too. IP, temp/remote, and alphabetical ordering options are not enough to show locations in the way we want to display them.

  16. "Create Physical Item Work Order" job - adding notes.

I would like to be able to include a note when bulk creating physical item work orders.

Notes can be added to individual work orders, but the ‘Create physical item work orders’ job doesn’t allow this – only the work order type, managing department, and pick/do not pick from shelf can be specified.

The use case is that we are correcting some of our call numbers, and the physical items will need to be relabeled. I would like those items currently on loan/in transit/in process to have work orders that send them to our repair department for relabeling when returned,…

  17. Better management of serial prediction when publication frequency changes

Sometimes providers change a journal’s publication frequency throughout the year. So, the prediction’s pattern selected / elaborated at the beginning of the year doesn’t work anymore in Alma. One part of predictions (date of receipt) will be ok until the change but all other predicted items will be false. Now, we can revise the prediction during the year but we must erase the items already received. We can also leave the prediction defined at the beginning of the year and edit manually the false items from the time of the prediction change.

It would save a lot of time if…

  18. Suppress Items from discovery for a particular physical location but keep Holding statement

We feel that it would be useful to be able to suppress items from discovery from a particular Physical location but still display the holdings information.
This would be extremely useful for our Journals collections, whereby we receive individual items but only want to display the holdings statement to the end user.

  19. Keep suppressed records without items that have received more than one purchase request

We have detected this case that we consider is an incorrect behavior of Alma.

When a purchase request is generated, a non-visible bibliographic record is created. The problem is that if a second purchase request for the same document is generated, Alma automatically makes the bibliographic record visible, even though we still do not have copies of it. Therefore this record appears visible in Polibuscador but without funds.

We request that the bibliographic record should only be visible when the issue or copies are available to the user, meanwhile, even if more than one purchase request has been made, it…

  20. Have the option to turn off sorting for sets.

Our OAC department needs to generate a packing list of items that are scanned in, in the order in which they were scanned. The problem is that after creating a physical items set via scanning, the set sorts itself, and the items are no longer in order.

In addition, our Metadata Services department used to manage our corrections projects in Millennium by having a public set that everyone could access. Once the cataloger was done correcting the record, it was removed from the set.

Our problem is that once we're done correcting the record for a Physical Titles set and…
