How to distinguish namesakes
When you search a user (fullfiment > manage patron services), there is no possibility to distinguish to different user, who have the same nam (namesakes).
In the old UI, there was a patron card image, and, when clicking on, we accessed to a summary of the patron.
Now, we have no more solution.
Can you add this functionnality in the new UI?
Thanks a lot.
Hi,
Makes sense ! Currently, the user information that is displayed in the user Ajax search results (e.g. patrons services WB) is hardcoded.
A mapping table, similar to the one that configures the user pop up, will control the fields that show in this list. The mapping table will enable the same fields that the user pop up allows, and allow setting the order of the fields.
Thanks,

@François, thank you for telling me about the User Name Display table. I added the middle name field and now they display. Apparently our patron load is only set for middle initials and not middle names (and can't be changed at this time), but even middle initials are a great help.

It would be nice if this new mapping table would not only contain the existing values of the Contact Information Pop-Up configuration table (Email, Gender, Home Address, Name, Office Address, Preferred Identifier, Primary Identifier, Telephone, Title, and User Group), but *also* the ones already existing in the Display User Name configuration table where middleName, jobDescription, and userTitle can also be displayed (I’m echoing Chris’ comment here). Campus would certainly also make sense!
In our case, we could display the jobDescription info via the Display User Name configuration table. This would be easy to distinguish A from B in the ajax listing of results. But this would also impact all letters where user’s <name> is used to be replaced by a <first_name> <last_name> combination.
@Tammy: If you have in your user records a value in the ‘Middle name’ field, you can use it already for display with the Display User Name configuration table.

Great news that this has been planned. In our case Campus is the best way for library staff to distinguish patrons with the same name and then possibly email. Is it possible to include this information. What would also be great would be the option to configure the fields that display in the search results to make this information more visible?

It would also be useful of the middle name or initial were displayed to help distinguish among patrons. For example, we have over 150 patrons with the last name "Garcia" and many have the same first name but different middle initials.

Hi,
I would echo François's comment, as regards Manage Patron Services being the key focus here. The Manage Patron Services 'ajax' listing of results doesn't readily enable staff to differentiate similar names (albeit staff could use the "Select from a list" feature to get a full list of 'find and manage users' results (with the pop-up).
It is a shame the User Management/User Name Display as well as the Contact Information Pop-Up don't quite have the same configurability in this context, as some institutions might even opt for things like Job category or statistical category to appear, I suppose.

Hi Moshe,
I think it does not. The configuration option via the "Contact Information Pop-Up" menu helpful when there is a user icon where staff can click on. The context of the original request is Fullfiment > Manage patron services where no such icon exists and where namesakes can hardly be differentiated https://www.screencast.com/t/qHBYkXVq
Thanks.

Hi,
It seems like the pop up card does show in the user list, see https://www.screencast.com/t/Dio8r7OhB
The pop up card may be configured to display Primary ID and/or 'Preferred ID'. The configuration is done in the "Contact Information Pop-Up" configuration menu option.
In the User Management's "Other Setting" configuration menu you can set up which ID type is your 'Preferred ID', which will display in the pop up card as per the above described configuration option.
Does that give a solution to the requirement described in this idea ?
Thanks,

Our staff would also like to be able to see/view the user barcode and/or the University ID in the default search results display list when looking up users via the Persistent Search box. Aside from the configuration of "Preferred ID" option, these additional configuration options where in the field name/descriptions match local conventions would also be helpful, when reviewing similar data in the contact information pop-up.
Staff view it as time-consuming, to look up user records and then have to navigate additional screens, tabs or fields to retrieve the Barcode or University ID information. Also, while helpful as a configuration option for the contact information pop-ups, the Primary ID is not usually the data printed on our physical USER ID cards; and "Preferred ID" may not be a familiar term to all faculty, staff or student assistants working at the circulation desks. As such the ability to display the user "Barcode" and/ or "University ID" would be beneficial for when staff need to look up users due to mangled, faded or generally unscannable physical IDs and especially useful when there are multiple users with similar names.
