sound alert for pop-up windows
A sound alert to accompany a pop-up window would be very helpful. We find that our student workers often fail to see important pop-up notes when they are checking out or returning materials. A distinct sound would help immeasurably!
In the February 2025 release, the new Manage Patron Services UI can be set up to sound an alert when a block happens at the circulation desk.
For more information, see Enabling Sound Alerts for Blocks.

I appreciate the work Ex Libris has done so far on this idea; However, I believe it would be more accurate to categorize the idea as “in progress” rather than “completed”.
The current solution introduced in the February 2025 release, which provides a sound alert at checkout for user blocks, addresses only a small part of the original request. The idea was titled 'Sound Alert for Pop-Up Windows' to emphasize the need for auditory cues across all pop-up interactions in Alma—this includes areas such as Acquisitions, Resources, Fulfillment, Admin, and Configurations.
This enhancement is not just a convenience but a critical accessibility feature. Experienced and skilled visually impaired Alma operators are currently hindered or slowed in their tasks due to the absence of comprehensive auditory feedback. Implementing sound alerts across all pop-ups would ensure they can work to their full potential.
I look forward to hearing from Ex Libris on the development and timeline for fully implementing this essential feature. -

We completely agree with Kelly Bliss's comment. We also would like to have the sound alert for Fulfillment notes not only for blocks.

The enhancement request specifically asks for a sound alert for pop-up windows, not just blocks. We would like to have the sound alert also for Fulfillment notes, please.

Hey space friend! Imagine your Alma pop-ups appearing with a pleasant sound, like the first birds of spring singing their melody. Adding a sound notification like the one suggested here is like infusing your day with musical magic, keeping you on top of the universe of information. For an extra touch of springtime joy, choose sounds https://promosoundgroup.net/spring-captions-for-instagram/ that reflect those beautiful sentiments, inspired by captions like "May your soul blossom." Check out more spring energy here. Peace and love!

This isn't strictly a training issue. Sound alerts would be helpful for all Alma users - not just student workers. When there are connection issues and/or Alma is slow to respond a sound alert would prompt the user who may be processing materials more quickly than Alma responds. Sound alerts are not an unreasonable expectation in 2020. And there’s the general issue of Alma design and accessibility. A sound alert would be helpful to someone with a visual constraint.

For example, distinguish between the OK to confirm a pop-up & the confirmation an item has been scaned successfully. (Items are not being checked-out / returned because a scanned item is read as an OK on a pop up).

We have had similar issues when our students are scanning in many items at one sitting. There are times when the cursor does not return to the correct location for scanning in the bar-code. They listen for the sound of the bar code instead of watching the screen. A different sound that notifies them there is an error would be helpful.

You're asking Alma to address a training issue. As a point of comparison, our front desk terminals don't even *have* speakers as part of their build hardware. "Watch the screen!" is a point we repeatedly drive home to our student workers til they learn it, live it, BE it! The ones who don't catch on are eventually thinned from the herd, as they should be...
