Job to scan in items
Our spine labeling workflow is quite bottlenecked because we have to scan each item 3 times: once to print the label, once to scan out of Tech Services, and once into scan into place. If there were a job to scan in items, we could at least reduce the 3 scans to 2 by scanning into an .xls and then running two scan in jobs on the same file.
The “Scan-in operation on item” API may be useful for this. You can use this API to scan in a bulk of items. The API is documented in the Developers Network.
A script for performing bulk scan-in of items is also described in the Developers Network.

I agree that this workflow is highly complex. Therefore, it should be handled by a competent person. Cornerstone staffing customer service https://www.pissedconsumer.com/company/cornerstone-staffing/customer-service.html has provided me with an outstanding customer service experience. They were professional, efficient and caring about my needs from day one. Their team was always available to help me with any questions or concerns I encountered. Thanks to Cornerstone Staffing, I was able to get the perfect job that matched my skills and expectations.

I vote for this process as well. This would automate several workflows for us. To be able to use the Scan In function for a Work Order using an Itemized or Logical would be wonderful.

Please integrate this functionality into the Alma interface as a job, as originally requested. Many of us don't have developers to write scripts.

I totally agree with Erin. The script is written in curl, out of my reach. Most of the library staff do not know programming or writing scripts for API. You also have to download the program into your computer to run the script. This is too complicated when we want a simple Alma interface to get the job done.
Maybe the request should be re-written to specifically ask for a barcode bulk scan JOB to run for the work order department. A JOB in/inside Alma, without writing a single script or doing any programming, that can be run to batch scan a list of barcodes for the work order department or circulation department.
Now you can't say that it is already supported. If it is, where is the JOB?

I would also really like to see this because I think it would be very helpful from a circulation stand point. If the job to "Scan in Items" also allowed the operator to choose whether or not to "mark an item used" then fulfillment areas could readily use this feature. Imagine using a wireless scanner to just scan books and put them away immediately. Then downloading all those barcodes in an .xls, uploading to Alma and running a job on them would be less time consuming than scanning each individual book at a central receiving area on shelving.

Please reconsider opening this idea. Our institution, and others judging from discussions on ALMA-L, still needs the functionality of a job that removes work orders.
Although my colleague scripted a custom solution using APIs [http://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308173-alma/suggestions/13381902-job-to-scan-in-items] for the original situation that had prompted this idea, my department and others continue to run into many workflow bottlenecks because of work orders that critically hamper our ability to carry out daily activities.
We eagerly look forward to the planned 2018-19 feature that is on the Alma roadmap to "Improve efficiency in Transit Process" ("It will be possible to skip the transit step between configured locations, allowing library staff to gain efficiencies at desks that manage several locations and work order types.").
However, I am uncertain that this new feature will obviate a need for a job to remove work orders. In the case of the original situation that prompted this idea, it would not, and we will still have to use our custom solution.

Dear Moshe, no doubt that your suggestions are useful for the described purpose. But I wouldn't say that the suggested idea is already supported.
I believe that ExL implemented jobs and their related wizards in the Alma UI to allow Alma several operators to perform tasks without the need of scripting skills.
Having a job allowing to perform scan ins and having a script running on an API are two quite different ways to achieve the same goal. -
Hi,
The "Scan-in operation on item API" may be useful for this. You can use this API to programmatically scan in a bulk of items.
This API is documented at
https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/alma/apis/bibs/POST/gwPcGly021om4RTvtjbPleCklCGxeYAfEqJOcQOaLEvNcHQT0/ozqu3DGTurs/Xx+GZLELMQamEGJL0f6Mjkdw==/af2fb69d-64f4-42bc-bb05-d8a0ae56936eA suggestion for a script that can be used in order to perform a bulk scan-in on a list of barcodes in a single file is described in the Developers Network, see https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/blog/Performing-the-Alma-scan-in-API-on-a-file-of-barcodes
