Allow Linking PO Lines to Electronic Inventory Regardless of Order Record Type
We keep running into road blocks with not being able to hotlink POLines into the POLine fields of either Electronic Collection Records or Portfolio records.
Is there a way that Alma can allow us to add POLines to Electronic inventory no matter what the order type is? This would save us so much time and allow us to use existing order lines for renewals. Right now we are doing a work around to connect order lines with electronic inventory by entering order information in the Portfolio Internal Description field.

Dear community,
We reviewed this idea and analyzed it deeply.
The current Alma data model relays on the PO line type as indication of the related inventory. Changing this is very complicated and risky, therefore for now we will not implement this.

We would very much like to link Access service POLs to electronic collections as we are now making ongoing payment for the access fee for perpetually purchased e-collections OR where content is now Read and Publish rather than a subscription.

FYI- I have been running a "job" to change order type and it worked.
If an order migrated to Alma as e-collection, I could change that same order to e-journal order. I hope this helps. -

Yes me too, not only for migrated POLs but also existing ones. For instance when you want to convert a portfolio to a collection we have been setting up new Electronic Collection - Subscription POLs because Alma won't let us relink the existing order. This used to be possible. We also used to be able to attach migrated physical orders to electronic collections.

Absolutely - our acquisition POLs prior to migration does not magically match Alma's idea of line types, thus linking the POLs of resources purchased prior to migration rarely reflect the one specific line type required in electronic collection or portfolio records. The internal description fields are not ideal, especially since they are not reportable via Analytics.

I second this - we have print+online orders. Our order types migrated as print subs, but it would still be nice to be able to link our order with the portfolio associated with it.

Totally agree with this idea! There needs to be more flexibility in Alma. Another case to support this idea is a standing orders for a serial that is partially or fully analyzed.

Currently, it is only possible to fully link an inventory record to a PO Line which has the same type, i.e., an electronic collection inventory record to an electronic collection PO Line type. It would be useful to be able to link any inventory type to a POL as there are instances where we have a POL for a hosting fee for several databases, but the hosting fee itself is not in itself a database. This means we can't link the inventory records to the POL. Also, it would be useful to be able to link portfolios to collection type POLs so they refer back to the larger order.
