  1. Controlled vocabularies and metadata field limits

    To aid in the discovery of both researchers and assets, it would be great if the following functionality were available:

    1. Ability to limit keywords/research topics at the researcher level
    2. Ability to limit the length of the describe your research section of the profile
    3. Availability of more controlled vocabularies - preferably not LCSH, but a blend of subject-specific vocabularies (MeSH, Inspec, MLA, etc. -- maybe even the controlled vocabularies from the old CSA indexes given how good they are for the social sciences)
    4. Ability to limit keywords to just items from controlled vocabularies

  2. Esploro - sword - Deposits - Integrate a Normalization Process based on a Normalization rule

    We manged to create an integration profile for using SWORD to deposit assets from our CRIS to Esploro (
    https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/esploro/integrations/sword/ ).
    We would like however to manipulate/normalize imported values we are importing, as we are used to do with Alma imports, where we can we create a Normalization Rule (NR), integrate it in a process and use it in an Import profile.
    In Esploro we have NR, we have Processes, but still there is no way to integrate the process in the Sword integration profile / import process.
    Please add the feature for addin a Normalization Process to the SWORD…

  3. Esploro - Add action for assigning a name variant to job Update Set of Research Assets

    Sometimes we need to bulk update the name displayed in the Discovery Portal for a Researcher. To do so we create a new name variant but we would also like to bulk update all assets related to this specific Researcher with the new "Name Variant".

    To do so an action "Choose Name Variant" could be added to existing Job: Update Set of Research Assets / Task Creator or Contributor

    Such a feature would also be very useful to refine the data after an import via file or an harvesting.

  4. More granular history tab in asset mediated form

    It would be good to have more granular information in the History tab of the asset form. At the moment it only records when a deposit was created or approved. Adding when fields were edited and which fields were edited, similar to what is in the Researcher History tab, would allow for greater auditing of when metadata is changed. This would be particularly useful when large teams are editing records.

  5. Send ETD notifications to faculty

    Currently when ETDs are published, faculty members who participated as advisors or committee members on the manuscript are listed in the contributors section, and it appears to be linked to their researcher profile. However, despite the manuscript being connected to said faculty members, they are not notified of the addition when the ETD is published and only the student is notified. We have some faculty members who would like to keep track of the manuscripts they have been on an advisory committee for, but there is currently no front end way.   6. Add option to easily export internal organization structure to spreadsheet

    We would like to be able to export a file which includes:
    Top level unit | 2nd level unit | 3rd level unit | etc for all levels
    For example:
    Weizmann Institute | Chemistry Faculty | Organic Chemistry Department
    Weizmann Institute | Chemistry Faculty | Materials and Interfaces Department
    Weizmann Institute | Biochemistry Faculty | Molecular Cell Biology Department

  7. Allow users to sort assets

    In the Scholarship section of the profile, assets appear in reverse chronological order and there is no way to change the sort. Please add a sort feature as we have in Primo.

  8. Expose Researcher Engagement types via API and Analytics

    We wanted to start developing a Find a Supervisor page on our web site using the researcher API.
    We have entered Principal Supervisor, Co-supervisor etc as engagement types in the backend. However there is no way to query this via the API or Analytics. Also to search the field you need to search the code not the description e.g. Engagement3 not Principal Supervisor.

  9. Expertise Finder

    Esploro is capable of being an Expert Finder but limited to subject matter expertise gleaned from your Research Topics. What about an entire area for Expertise in the profile? The idea would be to list things you consider yourself an expert in (using the same taxomonies already available or free text) and offer toggles for :
    -willing to be contacted about
    -willing to mentor
    -willing to assist in an emergency
    -willing to serve on a committee
    etc..

    Then the expertise is explicitly searchable and also indicative of people willing to apply that expertise in those scenarios. Then we would not…

  10. More flexibility in student works that are part of degree requirement

    We need more flexibility in student works that are part of degree requirements (degree culminating publications). These are often thought of as ETDs (theses and dissertations). However, some degrees do not require a thesis or dissertation and instead have a a capstone or a case report. These are very different than a thesis/dissertation, but the only option for student work at the end of a degree are the ETD options.   11. Bulk updates to "Managed Externally" checkboxes

    Currently, if the "Managed Externally" checkboxes are checked, faculty are unable to make changes to any of the fields. This became apparent when we noticed that prefilled Education fields (filled in during the time of our migration) were not accurate and the faculty members were not able to update it unless we uncheck these boxes. However, in a user's account there are up to 5-6 of these boxes. I was looking for a job that can bulk uncheck some if not all the boxes in all researchers.

    Integrate RAiD as a persistent identifier for research Projects and certain activities. RAiD will align with the European Open Science Cloud infrastructure, enhancing the visibility and traceability of research activities.   13. Add the ability to display PlumX metrics badges

    We would like the ability to display PlumX badges for assets. Being able to display WOS and Altmetrics badges/metrics on assets is great, but WOS covers only a select group of journals. Adding the ability to also include PlumX badges on assets would expand our metrics coverage to give administrators the numbers they want, and give researchers a fuller, more accurate picture of the impact of their works. Metrics make the academic world go round. And the more information we can provide our users, the more buy in we encourage across campus.

  14. Impact Idea 1: Date Field for Added Files & Links

    Incorporate a date field for files and links added to a project in Esploro. This feature will be crucial for tracking the timeline of project-related documents, such as appreciation emails, blog posts, or reports.

    As we begin collecting a 'paper trail' of engagement leading to societal impact, and potentially in many future cases, academics will need to add information to their projects retrospectively. For supporting evidence that is temporarily or not publicly available (e.g., emailed testimonials or government websites), it is best practice to capture and store these locally, preferably in Esploro.

  15. Map programs & research units to ETD types

    Now that undergraduate students can self-deposit in Esploro, it is essential that the process be as straightforward as possible. Currently the programs and research units that they must select from are all possibilities. We would like a way to identify the relevant programs and research units so they are given a subset of relevant options. Without having an appropriate subset it will be much more challenging for everyone, and we are sure we will get a lot of incorrect information in the form.

  16. Cover images for metadata only items

    We would like a way to have a thumbnail/cover image associated with a metadata only item, particularly a book. We would want the cover to display in a collection like this https://iro.uiowa.edu/esploro/search/collections/Recent-Books-by-UI-Authors/Books?institution=01IOWA_INST to make it look more engaging. The image should as display on a profile, and it should be part of the import to Primo so that it displays there as well. The cover needs to be marked in some way as a cover image so it does not appear to be something with full text available; a cover image should NOT make the asset be flagged as OA.…

  17. Tagging Selected Outputs in Esploro

    1.0 Proposal to tag or highlight selected outputs

    We would like to explore the possibility of “tagging” (or similar demarcation) selected outputs in Esploro to differentiate / highlight them.

    This tagging will be additional to the current search / refine options (such as Research Unit or Subject).
    All forms of outputs (articles, data sets etc) should be eligible for tagging.

    For example, we may want to “tag” Covid-19 research papers and data, or other key research on particular themes or goals.

  18. Ability to merge multiple researchers from the manage researchers page

    It would be helpful to have an option to merge multiple duplicate researchers at once from the manage researchers page, rather than relying solely on the bulk merge duplicate researchers report. Many times we need to look at the assets themselves to determine if the researchers are indeed identical.

  20. Add a creation date to the summary asset record

    In order to manipulate and identify files for individual or batch processing, the display of the asset record creation date in the summary asset record would be very useful.
    I've attached an image of the existing summary asset record. At present, only an 'Asset last updated' field is included. It would be a logical next step to display when the record was created.
