  1. Add job to bulk import asset metadata and files

Currently there is actually no mechanism by which a batch of metadata and files for multiple assets can be imported into Esploro. Strongly recommend adding this functionality ASAP.

    Hi,

    I am reviewing this item.

The description of the idea itself is about bulk import of asset and files.  It is possible to bulk load new assets via Import Profiles and via SWORD.

What is the source of these records?

There are also two comments and they are about bulk update of assets.

One is about bulk update of ETDs.  This should be possible via Admin --> run A Job --> Research Assets CSV Export and then import via Admin --> run A Job --> Import Assets.   Has this been tried?

The other is about bulk update of authors.  Bulk update of authors is complex because authors are not just metadata - there is also the link to the researcher.  Any change in the list of authors means that the author matching needs to be done from scratch.  Another issue is that there can be multiple authors,…

  2. Export of search results from Portal

Whereas in Primo, it is possible to export the results of a search (or at least, up to 50) by selecting them and then Exporting them, there does not seem to be the same option in the Researchers portal. We would like to be able to export search results from Esploro. Ideally, this export would not be restricted to 50.

  3. Add job to batch edit and/or suppress file labels in File Viewer

Currently, the file label displays in the File Viewer above the file itself and appears as prominently as the title of the asset (same font and size). For the thousands of assets we migrated to Esploro, this file label is by default the file name, which references the ID number of the file in our previous repository and nothing else (e.g., no author, title, year). This is not at all helpful to our patrons and is frankly quite ugly. So I would recommend that you add a job to edit and/or suppress the file labels in batch. Right now we…

  4. LoC and DC Headings

We would like to have the availablity to select Library of Congress or Dublin Core Subject Headings instead of the ExLibris base set of subjects. We found that ExLibris's base set is poorly inadequate and it became a huge annoyance and time consuming to copy and paste the Library of Congress headings for our catalogers.

  5. Add a facet for "Type of Degree"

In case of different degree in the same faculty, such as School of Education offers both EdD and PhD. Currently, the search will return all ETDs in our repository that are associated with the School of Education. So it should capture all the Ed.D.'s, but it also include results of Ph.D.'s as well. There is no facet for type of degree. Therefore, it would be more user friendly for filtering search results by "Type of Degree".

This is about as fine as we can parse it at the moment: https://researchdiscovery.drexel.edu/esploro/search/outputs?query=any,contains,*&page=1&sort=date_d&enable_asterisk_search=true&institution=01DRXU_INST&scope=ResearchETD&mfacet=facet_academic_unit,include,01DRXU_INST___3852,1

  6. Link Esploro asset records to Alma bib records

Permit Esploro asset records to be linked to bib records in Alma in the same way that holdings, portfolios, and digital representations are linked.

Create an Alma job by which library staff can link assets to bib records by uploading a spreadsheet of asset IDs and their corresponding bib MMS IDs.

Currently, we have two records for every ETD in our collection, the Alma bib record and the Esploro asset record. Both describe the same resource (the bib better than the asset record) and so they should be linked and not turn up in Primo as two separate search results.

    Hi,

    I am reviewing older ideas.

I am closing this because we will not be planning to add links between Alma records and Esploro assets in the nearer future.

From the idea description it appears that the main use you want or need this for is to prevent duplicate ETDS in Primo (since you have them in both Alma and Esploro).    I would like to suggest another approach for this - dealing with it via Primo VE scopes.

It is already possible to create a Search Profile with a custom scope that includes all assets except for thesis and dissertations.

You can add three rules to a custom scope:

    1. Available Research Exists

    2. AND Resource TypeNot EqualsDissertations-

    3. OR Resource TypeNot EqualsThesis

If does not solve the issue, we can consider an additional OTB scope.

And if you see additional uses for an Alma-Esploro link - please…

  7. Separate configuration options for faculty and student works

We would like to have more granular control over our asset display configurations. Theses/dissertations and other types of non-published student works do not have the same descriptive needs as published faculty works, and having a blanket configuration that is meant to address all types of published and non-published works is leading to confusion as to how to correctly present and interpret the presented metadata. In order to best represent our non-published student works and ETDs, it would be better to have those assets configured separately from faculty works.

  8. New asset page - navigation between search results

The new portal no longer has Up and Down arrows to navigate to the next record in search results.

We find navigation between search results very useful and would like the left panel with Up and Down arrows added to the new portal.

  9. Marking Honors, scholarship, projects, or activities as "featured" to better highlight them

Some faculty or researchers have honors, activities, scholarship, or projects that in some sense defines them. Instead of those items blending in with everything else, it would be nice to have a way of highlighting or featuring certain things. As an example, if someone won the nobel prize, they would most certainly want that to be made more prominent in some way.

  10. Allow researchers to manage notification preferences

Currently, only library staff can subscribe or unsubscribe researchers from Esploro notifications. Researchers must contact the library and library staff must update their notification settings in their researcher record. This workflow is inefficient for both parties. To save time and effort, researchers should be able to manage their notification preferences directly from their researcher profile without library intervention.

  11. Create a new Researcher Profile API that returns the Researcher Profile as a complete entity

Please create a new Researcher Profile API that returns the Researcher Profile as a complete entity. That is, it returns the contents of the Overview (including the profile URL), the Output, the Projects, and the Grants(?) tabs.

    1) It would be great to have all of this information returned in one API; and
    2) You currently have to filter the Assets API by "Shown in profile: Yes" in order to mimic the display in the Researcher Profile; and
    3) Projects (and future Grants?) information is not currently available via API.

    Thanks,
    Blake

  12. Researcher to choose which email display in their profile

Some of our Researcher records have multiple email addresses, whether by manual entry or from external data.

Example: Amanda has recently married, changed surnames and has a new email address (both her old and new emails are active work emails).

Amanda only wishes to use her new email with her married surname, so this email is set to be the preferred email address in her User record.
Amanda only wants to display her new email on her Researcher profile, however both her old and new emails are being displayed, as they are both email Type: Work and we have configured…

  14. Add the ability to Expand All research units

Research units are currently displayed only in hierarchical list. Therefore, to find a research unit, the user must know the organization's hierarchy. The enhancement idea is either a way to list all units in a browse A-Z, or, more simply, a button to expand-all hierarchy.

  15. Add option to easily export internal organization structure to spreadsheet

We would like to be able to export a file which includes:
Top level unit | 2nd level unit | 3rd level unit | etc for all levels
    For example:
Weizmann Institute | Chemistry Faculty | Organic Chemistry Department
Weizmann Institute | Chemistry Faculty | Materials and Interfaces Department
Weizmann Institute | Biochemistry Faculty | Molecular Cell Biology Department
We managed to create such a report using the ‘Esploro Research Assets’ subject area – but this report includes only departments and faculties for which we have assets. If there are departments for which we do not have assets, they will…

    Hi,

I am reviewing Ideas Exchange and have some questions about this idea

This would be an export of the org structure only?  Is this in reference to analytics?

What purpose would this report serve?

    Thanks

    Tami

  16. Improve functionality of the Areas of Interest to allow labelled headings and locking of specific serctions

Esploro has ability to add multiple sections in the field for Area of Interest. However, when the profile is edited in the public view (Researcher portal) all the separate segments are merged into one.

We would like the ability to further control the look and access option for the Area of Interest sections.

For example: We currently use HTML to include headers for different sections of Researchers’ biographies, e.g. Biography, Research, Teaching.

Ideally, we'd be able to have separate fields, with customisable labels, in the Area of Interest so that we could control which fields to display and have greater…

  17. Associate ETDs automatically with the relevant author

Currently, When an ETD is loaded to Esploro, its author, the student, is not associated with a researcher.
We ask to add an identifier field in the load file that will allow us to assign a student to an existing researcher.
If the field is blank, no match is attempted.

Note that this is already working for ETDs deposited via the Esploro Student Deposit.  IT is also working when ETDs are loaded via Import Profiles.   We still need to check the possibility of doing this via the ETD Admin flow.

  18. Citation only display on profile brief results

Currently, the citation display on the Researcher Profiles includes the first several lines of the abstract. We would like to list via citation only and exclude the abstract from the brief results. This can be done in the portal but is not available from the profiles assets display. We feel that this would look tidier and reduce the need to scroll down the page as much.

  19. Improve Grant discovery in Research Portal

We want to work with our Grants Office to track funding acquired by researchers. However, the only way to access grant information is through individual researcher profiles. I believe we can publish Analytics reports for grants to a public webpage in the meantime, but it would be nice to link grants to specific researcher profiles since we are already tracking this information.

Enhancement request: Add the ability to view Grants in the Esploro interface. This might include 1) a tab for Grants that shows a results page for grants, linked to Researcher profiles, with limiters for Org Unit, Grant Category,…

  20. Ability for researchers to show/hide details in the Communication section of their profile

Our researcher contact details are imported daily and we are finding some researchers add other email, phone and address details via their profile and would rather the alternate contact details be displayed.

We would like a button next to each entry in the Communication section so researchers can decide which to make visible, similar to the toggle visible/hidden icon available in the Affiliations section.
