How can we improve Primo?

  1. Enable more fields for export to Mendeley, at least the permalink to the record

    It would be very helpful for users if the permalink to the record could be exported to Mendeley.

  2. Customize Facet List - Advanced Search

    It would be helpful for our users to be able to select locations from a list of library locations. For instance, we have a library in the system with a specific archive of local history collections and it would be beneficial to restrict a search to those locations rather than sifting through similar titles in the overall collection

  3. Improve call number Browse search

    To improve the user experience in Primo VE, we propose modifying the call number browsing feature to show a few call numbers both before and after the searched call number, providing better context and making it easier to locate desired items.

  4. Add library location name and/or code to advanced search options

    I'd like to submit for reconsideration an idea that was posted back in 2020 but which unfortunately didn't receive enough votes to be considered for future development at that time. My own library has only been using Primo VE since May 2024, so we didn't get a chance to vote for the original post.

  5. Allowing the "I only need a specific chapter or pages" checkbox to be defaulted to ticked.

    With the introduction of RapidILL, we have defaulted our resource sharing request form to have a format of "Digital". For consistency, we would also like to be able to have the "I only need a specific chapter or pages" checkbox default to being ticked so this matches the format.
    The client could then choose to untick (which changes the form format to Physical) if they wish to request a loan.

  6. holdings information search "starts with"

    When searching for Holdings Information in advanced search then changing the operator option to "Starts with", changes the search to Title rather than holding information.
    The "starts with" operator should only be an option when the user is using the Title Search operator.

  7. Make the DOI field on the Full Record page a link including EZproxy

    Currently on the Primo Full Record page, the DOI field is not a link to the resource. Please make this a link with the option to prepend your EZproxy URL to the DOI links. (Summon added this feature in 2021.)

  8. Show item availablity on the top level for 'Group Locations by Library in Get It'

    In April 2022 we got the "Group Locations by Library in Get It" feature: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Release_Notes/002Primo_VE/2022/010Primo_VE_2022_Release_Notes#Group_Locations_by_Library_in_Get_It-98574

    To save users' time when it comes to finding out whether an item is available or not, would it be possible to show the item availability already on the top level, for each library? Color coding wouldn't hurt either, indicating instantly whether a location has the item available or not.

  9. Multi-select and Typeahead search fields (e.g. language)

    Currently Primo VE only allows a user to select one language at a time via dropdown. This is a poor user experience that doesn't allow users to multiple languages at once, and makes the dropdown more difficult to use as more options are added to it.

    Having an interface where the user can select multiple items at once as well as type to suggest a language will allow more flexibility for users researching items in specific languages

  10. One index in Primo VE for browing call number

    Currently, call numbers with different call number types must be browsed separately, using different call number indexes.

    It will be beneficial for both library staff and clients to be able to Browse only one call number index (combining different call number types in the one index) in Primo VE without having to think about which index their call number belongs to.

  11. Default sorting order in Loan Display

    We would like to have an option to select the default sorting order from "Due Date - newest", "Due date - oldest", "Title" in "My Library Card > Loans > Active Loans" and "My Library Card > Overview > Loans" display.

  12. More thumbnail source options or additional parameters needed for Primo VE

    Would like the ability to either pull from CDI source fields for thumbnails for example the way the CDI for Naxos can use {{control/sourcerecordid}} to build the link for online access. We need to be able to use this same field to pull in the thumbnail automatically. Alternately or in addition another option would be to allow additional logic from another Marc field to determine whether a field should be used. e.g. Use 035a for $$LinkingParameter1 IF 040a = Naxos.

  13. Remove journal categories

    Make it possible to remove or hide irrelevant HILCC categories from the Browse Journals by Category feature. Currently, trying to remove a category from the hierarchy leaves a gap in the visual display. Because the hierarchy has a very US-focused perspective, many of the categories are not relevant for institutions outside of the US.

  14. Collection discovery display shut off independent of collection path display

    We would like the ability to have a collection not display with other collections in collection discovery but yet still have the collection link available in the collection path to give a results list for students of all items in the collection.

    Just a toggle on or off for collection discovery display is needed. Right now, we have to suppress the collection to avoid display, but then it removes the collection path link too.

  15. Purchase Request - only allow certain users to put in a request if identifier finds a match on our holdings

    If a purchase request finds a match on our holdings, it will warn the patron of it existing on our catalogue and provide a link to view the record, but still provide the option to submit the request afterward.

    Would like it so the option to submit request can be made hidden from certain groups of users (Display Logic Rule?). i.e. Make it so Students won't be able to submit a request if it exists on our holdings, but still allow it for Staff

  16. Allow themes to overwrite/override SASS files

    One of the biggest difficulties when theming Primo VE is getting link, background, and search bar colors consistent across the different page types. Because the underlying theme uses lighter and darker variations of colors, just editing the color file isn't enough. This leaves us looking for every variation of selector using browser inspect tools, which is time consuming and very hit-or-miss.

    Being able to override the SASS, even if it's only for the complete list of color and font selectors, would be extremely helpful and make theme development more clear-cut and efficient.

  17. Newspapers search API

    For libraries who use the Primo APIs (https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/primo/apis/) for their bento box discovery service, it is not possible to extract results from a Newspaper search using the Primo Rest API when the Newspaper search is enabled. Libraries can only extract Newspaper articles through the API using the resource type “Newspaper articles” without the Newspapers search enabled, which means far less content, and far less relevant content. However, by enabling the Newspapers search, libraries can expose significantly more news-oriented results from the many newspapers search only sources that libraries have access to that will increase relevance.   18. Facet "Availability" : display order

    I would like to be able to choose the order in which items are displayed in the "Availability" facet, and thus put the most important ones first.

    In the backoffice, a "display order" column exists. I created a case to know why the display did not correspond to my choice. The person who answered, told me that it was not used in the user interface, and that it was considered as an improvement request.

  20. Display snippets in brief results for physical records when search terms appear in formatted content (5xx) fields

    It would be helpful for Primo VE to display highlighted snippets in brief results for physical records (like the full-text snippets for CDI records) when a user's search terms match on text that is in a formatted contents field.

    For example, if a patron currently searches for the title of a volume within a multi-volume set (and the search terms used for that volume title do not match on any other fields present in brief results), the record for that multi-volume set will appear in the search results, but with no obvious indication as to why (although the matching search…
