  1. Index Item Description in Primo VE

We record the monographic titles of periodical issues only in the Item Description field and not in the periodical bibliographic record.
This item field is searchable in Alma but not in Primo VE.
We need that the Item Description field to also be searchable in Primo VE.

  2. Do not interpret words in phrase searches as Boolean operators

At ETH Library, we use UDK classification. The UDK notations are always in capital letters, and some contain words as “AND” or German “UND”. “AND” and “UND” are defined as Boolean operators in our Primo VE. This leads to the following problem: when a user clicks on an UDK notation that contains such a word (e.g. on “PFLANZEN + BÄUME + BLUMEN (MOTIVE IN KUNST, LITERATUR UND FILM)” in this record: https://eth.swisscovery.slsp.ch/permalink/41SLSP_ETH/lshl64/alma990015558430205503), a search for “subject equals exact phrase” in the advanced search is triggered. Although a phrase search is performed, the word UND is interpreted as a Boolean…

  3. Make the Availability indicator for consortia match what was in Primo BO

We have has several users report in a week that they are confused by the lack of accuracy in the availability indicator in Primo VE. For example Milwaukee noticed that this item shows that it is available in another institution- https://wisconsin-uwm.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01UWI_ML/cc3uhc/alma9912304483902121
If I check that institution the item is checked out and if I look it Alma it has been out for over a year. https://wisconsin-uwosh.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01UWI_OSH/hvjabb/alma991004692621402126

Now compare it to Primo BO you will note that in the institutional holdings area, it says Out of the Library. - https://uwi-primoalma-prod.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/f/104qq38/UWI71401656290002121

We would want VE to be accurate so users do not

  4. Option to e-mail clients Saved Searches

It will be very useful to share Saved Searches with another client by having an e-mail option available in the My Favourites > Saved Searches section in Primo, in the same way the e-mail option is available for Saved Records.

  5. Add a search results permalink to the New UI results page

When we do searches in Primo for patrons, we often want to be able to send them to a list of results, rather than a specific item.

There is a jquery customization the classic UI created by Western Washington University at https://www.orbiscascade.org/blog/9/?bid=121

However, that customization does not work on the new UI, and requires users to be able to create a SQL database to store redirects, and to store files on a local server.

Ideally, search results permalink functionality could be built into Primo's New UI.

The attached screenshot shows the WWU search results permalink in action.

  6. Use of initial articles in title starts with searches in Primo Advanced Search

Primo is currently unable to adequately accommodate initial articles (a, an, the etc.) when doing a title starts with search in Advanced Search.

The first title field that appears in the sort section of the PNX is used as the title that is matched against when doing a title starts with search but this leads to different outcomes depending on whether the records are indexed from PCI or Alma:

When the title field in the sort section of the PNX is created from Alma the default behaviour is to strip the initial article
When the title field in the sort…

  7. Drag/drop results facets

We would like to be able to let our users personalize their search experience by dragging and dropping results facets into different positions in the list. For example, our first facet is Show Only. If a user wanted to see Material Type or Publication Date first, they could simply drag one of those facets to the top of the list. Making those choices persistent through a session and/or through their own personal account would be even better.

  8. Primo VE webhook search blending

In terms of usability, it would be good if Primo VE webhook search results could be blended to the combined search results (local resources and articles). Blended results feature should be able to select on a search-by-search basis e.g. if you apply search for AI-based article search portals or whether to apply search for printed resources from the repository libraries.

  9. Support html in GES public notes in How to Get it section

We are considering moving a couple of our general electronic services from the "Links" section to the "How to Get it" section. However HTML tags in the public note are not recognised when we change it from Links to How to Get It.

    See cases: 00987379 & 00987406

I would have expected that public notes should always support HTML tags as they are exposed publicly via Primo.

https://www.screencast.com/t/v3OGDhcrDG5j - illustration showing that <b> tags in the Links area make text bold, but encoding is displayed int eh How to Get it section.

  10. Copy parts of Normalization Rules Sets to other fields in the same set

It would be very useful to be able to copy subsets/blocks of a Normalization Rule Set to other blocks/fields in the same set, instead of manually copying very complicated rules. This was a NERS request from the Free University of Bozen (4440), but it did not receive enough votes.

  11. Restrict discoverability of e-resources for walk in users to those resources they are licenced to use

We're looking to restrict the discoverability of electronic resources for walk in users to those resources they are licenced to use.

Ideally, Primo would identify that the walk in users were from a certain IP range and in combination with an Alma licence
condition which allowed walk-in use to the resources, it would allow them to discover the resource.

  12. Expandable facets beyond the number we set

Recently it has become possible in VE to display up to 50 facets. 50 tries the patience of the average user but may be what it takes to help those with more specific needs. In some cases CDI limits the number anyway. It would be better if more facets are available this could be noted at the bottom by a "more" link which would then display more than the default number. This would be more consistent with other ways Primo displays complexity.

  13. Primo VE - Allow normalization of Esploro records

As a discovery tool Primo VE is supposed to deliver a unique gateway to many Library Resoures, including the a Institutional Repository (i.e. Esploro ).
To do so in a blended search one must be able to normalize records from different sources. We used to do that in Primo Classic, with a Pipe and a Normalization Rule. This is however not possible in the newer Primo VE.
Please allow manipulation and normalization of Esploro assets so that we can show them in the catalogue in a consistent way.

  14. Primo VE facet for collections regardless of inventory type

I would like to propose an out of the box facet for collections that can include all 3 inventory types.

We have users that need to be able to filter their search results by ‘collections’ or groupings that contain physical, electronic and digital resources. For example, our Original Materials ‘collection’ is made of physical items, digital items and electronic items that we have catalogued in local electronic collections.

Currently, there are OOTB facets based on physical inventory (Library and Location) but none that combine all 3 inventory types.

As a workaround, we have utilised the digital collection facet for this…

  15. Converting Greek letters in queries for local materials

When queries include Greek letters with diacritics, the retrieval omits many local records, as there is no conversion in Primo VE between letters with or without diacritics, or with different diacritics.

    Example:
Searching ἄγω or αγω gives different results. CDI records are retrieved regardless, while local records can only be retrieved in the exact manner they were cataloged.

Using a blended search (local+CDI) can confuse patrons, as it may lead them to believe the library does not have certain materials. Using a local search scope, patrons sometimes receive zero results, so many records are hidden from them.

    Greek is not…

  16. Holdingsfile should take into account the holdings of physical items

In our Primo we have set up that only articles that you have access to is presented in the first result-list, but that you can remove this filter by checking the tick box on the left to include result that you do not have access to.

Currently only the holdingf for electronic journals are taken into account. If the library has only the physical journal the article will not be part of the first search result. It will look like the library does not have this article, when the truth is that the user could get it in print.

    The…

  17. Add a list of suggestions to zero result searches in the A-Z Journals list

It is not possible to display a list of suggestions when a user retrieves zero results for a search in the A-Z Journals list. However, it is possible in Primo simple and advanced search. It would be beneficial to provide users with a distinct list of suggestions if they retrieve zero results in the A-Z journals list.

  19. Differenciating the code for PCI records from the code for Alma records

The PCI records that we don't subscribe and the Alma records without holding show the same labels on Get It section because they share the codes, such as:

    c.uresolver.getit2.holdinglist.empty.top
    c.uresolver.getit2.holding
    list.empty.signedinuser
    c.uresolver.getit2.holdinglist.empty.signedinuser.noservices
    c.uresolver.getit2.holdinglist.empty.guestuser
    c.uresolver.getit2.holding_list.empty.bottom
    (Samples are on SF #00731305)

We want those two groups of records to be distinguished from each other so that we can apply different labels giving more customized information to our patrons.

  20. Collection Discovery: "new" pagination method instead of endless scrolling

Already some time ago (May 2021 Release) Ex Libris has rolled out the "new" pagination method: users can now specify whether to display 10, 25, or 50 results per page.

This works also in the "Database Search" and the "Journal Search" but not in the "Collection Discovery" section of Primo.
"Collection Discovery" still provides the old endless scrolling method (Button "Load More Results") where you quickly run into brower performance problems if a collection contains my items.

Please make the "new" pagination method also availalbe in the "Collection Discovery" area.
    Thank you in advance!
