  1. Generic Field in Resource Sharing Request Form

We use the ILL request form in Primo VE and use the Generic Field to get users to confirm they've checked whether the resource is in stock. This is working well but now for every request it includes the text from the field "Please tick to confirm you have checked Library Search - we will not buy items that are already available.:true" in the note and request note field on the borrowing request. This makes it hard to see specific notes.

We'd like to have the option to stop the generic field text being copied to the fields.

  2. Improve Related Titles hypertext linking and advanced search

As a user, I want advanced searches that are generated by clicking a related title hyperlink to use existing metadata as search parameters in order to accurately narrow the results to relevant records.

As currently implemented, the hyperlinks for related titles either takes the user to a locally held version of the record or generates an advanced search based on the title alone.

When a user clicks a link for a related title named "Berg, Jeremy M. (Jeremy Mark), 1958- Biochemistry. 5th ed. New York : W.H. Freeman, ©2002" they are taken to an Advanced Search for Biochemistry.

    This search…

  3. Allow creating "NonFullText" electronic collections (as the "getCitedJournal" in SFX).

We would like Primo VE to allow creating "NonFullText" electronic collections, following the SFX model where the "getCitedJournal" service type exists.

This would allow managing lists of notes and/or service access urls, complementary to the other FullText collections.

Currently it is not possible to do these loads without confusing users in the results view, since when treating it as full text objects it shows them as "Available online".

This option would be complementary and more flexible than the "General electronic services", which are very limited since it does not allow adding particular notes and the URL must be homogeneous.

  4. Include available NZ e-inventory within IZ Alma/Primo VE browse indexes

For consortia with Network Zones, the centralized management of electronic resources is an integral function of the NZ. However, the Alma Browse Bibliographic Headings functionality used for the Primo VE Browse Search indexes omits e-resources available to an institution via the NZ.

Within the Metadata Editor, staff can select either 'Institution' or 'Network' when using the Browse Bibliographic Headings function. Selecting 'Institution' includes records from the IZ level, which omits anything where electronic access has been distributed to that institution from the NZ. Selecting 'Network' includes all records from the NZ level, regardless of the institution's physical holdings or electronic…

  5. A new type of search - Authority Search

Add Authority Search as a new type of search in Primo. The new feature will enable both patrons and librarians to search the authors and topical subjects from their authority records and link to the related records in their local catalog(s) and preferably also CDI.
The search will be based on alma's authority files and Linked Open Data.

This development was part of the Primo roadmap for 2021 and was removed.

A similar search option was implemented at the University of Haifa using local customizations and a dedicated search scope + view.
It enables to search a term only on…

  6. Make databases categories field distinguished by institution also for searching

In consortial environment, if the label of a database category assigned in IZ A for a database AAA is the same in IZ B but for another database BBB, this database BBB is also found in IZ A.
Using different local extensions per each IZ doesn't help.
As categories usually are defined with generic names that are used in several IZs, this funtionality is not usable as is in consortial environment.

  7. Make both the label and the code from the controlled vocabulary registry searchable

When adding a controlled vocabulary to the registry and afterwards connecting it to a certain MARC field in Primo VE, patrons now can only search using the code and not the label.

As an example imagine a controlled vocabulary with the entry ECON (code) and Economy and Finance (label). If ECON (the code) is stored in the record and the patron searches for Economy and Finance in that field (in advanced filter), he or she will get no results. If you search for ECON however all relevant records will be returned.
Of course the patrons are not supposed to know…

  8. Journal coverage: show more label if there is more than one embargo

Since November 2021 journal coverage is shown in brief results (https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Release_Notes/002Primo_VE/2021/010Primo_VE_2021_Release_Notes#Show_Journal_Coverage_Dates_in_Brief_Results_and_Journal_Search_).
This is very good, but there is one rule that is not the best solution. It is stated: "Coverage information may include a single embargo, and if multiple embargoes exist, only one of them will appear in the coverage."
Now, embargoes of different portfolios may contradict each other. So, if the user only see the first one, he may erraneously believe he has no access. Therefore, as soon as there is more than one embargo, the more label should get added to the journal coverage in the…

  9. Change / improve the Booking process for staff and patrons

    Hi all,

We wish to submit a proposal to change the current booking process for staff creating a booking request in Alma AND for patrons creating their own bookings in PRIMO VE.

Now, Alma’s option to submit ‘’ Booking ‘’ requests require us to search an item, select it and then enter booking times for each piece of equipment desired, which is very time consuming.

When patrons book equipment, they often need up to 10 or more pieces of equipment for the same booking period. This is quite inconvenient and increases the risk of mistakes in the process.

    In our…

  10. Fix the CDI's match and merge process

The CDI's match and merge rules/filters need to be adjusted to prevent multiple ISBNs/EISBNs/DOIs from previous e-book editions from being added to the current edition's record, which frequently breaks OpenURL linking to the correct edition. This particularly affects targets like OREILLYONLINELEARNINGACADEMICPUBLICLIBRARYEDITION in SFX.

  11. Fill the gap of Open Access CDI records not marked with the Open Access icon and facet

The Open Access icon and facet were added to Primo in May 2018, per previous submission: https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/19130257-open-access-flag-for-open-access-content

This is applied at metadata level by provider feed first for PCI and now CDI.
This current decision is the root cause for a significant gap in the number of OA records incorrectly not marked as OA.
For example, tens of thousands of PloS One articles not marked as OA.

In September 2022 a change is made in terms of the link proxy being removed when it is determined at the link level that the access is OA.
    But unfortunately this change is…

  12. Make consistent the use of CDI record data in Primo UI

Current CDI design in Primo UI is to expose metadata from all participant records for both returning results from a search query, and in the values presented for selection in facet for filtering results, but the display of metadata within records is only by site-specific activations.
This means that a user can search for a term in Primo, have results returned on the basis of that term, select the value for the term in a facet, but then not see the term in the record display.

The negative impact of this design decision includes:
    * a user is confused by…

  13. Allow Bibtex information to be copied and pasted rather than only downloaded

Currently, Primo requires that users download Bibtex and other citation data to their computers, and then upload or copy it from a document. This takes up valuable memory. Google Scholar has a feature that allows you to copy and paste the Bibtex citation directly from the browser rather than needing to download it, saving space and the hassle of saving and uploading a list of resources to their computers. Could a similar functionality be created for Primo VE where Bibtex information can be copied and pasted rather than just downloaded?

  14. Resource Types set in an Institution Zone should overwrite those set in a Network Zone

The definition of the local resource type depends on the owner of the record.
If the record is owned by IZ - the definition will be taken from the IZ.
If the record is owned by NZ - the definition will be taken from the NZ.
If the record is linked to NZ - the definition will be taken from the NZ.

This is inconvenient if some of the institutions in a consortium, but not all, want the general r.type.
Typically, the majority of the data is owned or linked to the NZ.

The current situation does greatly reduce flexibility…

  15. allow for change of text RESOURCE SHARING on Primo Discovery when items not stocked.

Allow individual institutions to change this text to InterLIbrary Loan or Order it. there is confusion on what exactly resource sharing is, and the phrase is not commonly used.

  16. Display Multiple Links in View It for Newspaper Articles in Newspapers Search

The April/May 2022 releases introduced the ability to display multiple links (both Link in Record and Link Resolver) in CDI records in Primo VE and Primo. However, this functionality is not in place for newspaper article records in Newspapers Search results. Newspaper articles in the npsearch interface still display only a single link. We request that the same multiple link display functionality in Search be extended to Newspapers Search. It is very helpful to offer users the option of Link in Record or Link Resolver link, especially for newspaper article content where link reliability and metadata matching may vary greatly.

  18. Feedback Tool for Primo VE - allow user's email as addressFrom in Report a Problem Letter

The Feedback Tool for Primo VE (May 2022) would be even better if the user's email address could be put in the addressFrom field in the Report a Problem letter in Alma. Just as the category is put in the emailSubject field:
    New feedback received from a Primo user - {category _ name}
allow the addressFrom field to contain:
    {user _ email}
This would then work better with CRMs and ticketing systems, or just mean that you can hit Reply to the email.

In a recent student survey we had feedback that users would like their complete list of Favorites to be more accessible and visible. In particular, users requested that instead of choosing 'Load more results' after every ten My Favorites, that their My Favorites list auto-loaded as they scrolled down the page.

  20. Newspapers search API

For libraries who use the Primo APIs (https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/primo/apis/) for their bento box discovery service, it is not possible to extract results from a Newspaper search using the Primo Rest API when the Newspaper search is enabled. Libraries can only extract Newspaper articles through the API using the resource type “Newspaper articles” without the Newspapers search enabled, which means far less content, and far less relevant content. However, by enabling the Newspapers search, libraries can expose significantly more news-oriented results from the many newspapers search only sources that libraries have access to that will increase relevance. However, if a…
