  1. Interaction between Unpaywall and View-it Section

In some cases the Unpaywall API returns a link but the View-it section of the record shows "No full text available". Customer support explained the beahviour as follows:

"Currently the Unpaywall API used by the Alma ViewIt checks for a direct link to the PDF of the article. In some cases, Unpaywall's API might return a link to a landing page - a webpage in which details on the resource appear as well as option for download. In that case, the ViewIt will not present a link.
The Primo 'Get PDF' link uses a different mechanism, which does support links…

  2. Primo VE item filter by ChronJ item field

In Primo VE, in the Get it section, button "location item filter" we can see and filter the items associated to an specific holding. Sometimes, for example with daily newspapers, there are lots of items associated to a holding.
We have the issue's year codified in chronI field, following ExLibris recommendations, month in chronJ field and day of the month in ChronK field.

If users want to reach, say, an issue dated July 16th, they should select the corresponding year and Primo VE loads the first ten issues of the year, starting in January. Now, user should be clicking many…

  3. Change newspaper indexing from weekly to daily

The CDI indexes newspaper content, like Proquest Newsstream, once a week. We would like to see newspaper specific content, that have daily issues updated in Primo on a daily basis. Patrons conducting newspaper searches in Primo report missing content, but need to redirect them to the individual databases for daily news.

  4. Display portfolio public notes in brief record display

We add important public notes to portfolios, with access instructions for users. Currently these only display on the full record screen.
Users often miss these instructions. It would improve the user experience to also include these notes in the brief record display, where they have a greater chance of being noticed.

  6. full text

Currently "full text" is limited to first 65K characters of an article or of a complete [!] book (along with chapter abstracts only) from CDI, or even less from Alma, and not from all sources (e.g., not from JSTOR). Thus tweak results to full text is misleading. For articles, entering from google scholar may circumvent the problem partially. For books, true research now requires search full text (possibly not available or only available in snippet view) in google books for finding the required source and pages, then searching the discovery for the book for electronic access, similar to finding a…

  7. unpaywall - collection separation

in the webinar : Yes, We’re Open! Open Access in Knowledgebases and Discovery 20231211 1501 1 1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhZ34Y1Rzdo) Christine Stohn mentioned that Ex Libribs we interested in feedback to find out how people wanted UnPaywall content to be available, e.g. split up by version.

I would therefore like to proposed that the UnPaywall Collection be split into 3 separate collections, Submitted version, author accepted versions and Version of Record/Published version.

This would not only enable us to only enable the versions we want and avoid those we don't, but also allow us to potentially signpost the version types…

  8. Allow "Exclude cdi ebooks" to apply only to the filtered search

The Exclude CDI eBooks option on the Define a Custom Search Profile page allows you to remove CDI ebooks from both the filtered and expanded searches in Primo VE. This is useful for removing duplicate ebook results while keeping book chapter results. However, because it also removes those results from the expanded results, it diminishes the value of the expanded search for discovery and for initiating ILL requests. A more useful function would allow us to apply the "Exclude cdi ebooks" option just to the filtered search and not to the expanded search.

  9. Can Note be added to the list of field search options in Advanced Search in Primo?

Adding Note to the field search options filter would enable patrons to more effectively search for titles. For example, someone searching for materials in languages not currently available for limiting searches could select Note and write Text in Tagalog or similar to refine their search. Keyword searching does this, but the results lack context and are much less helpful.

  10. Only show "request other issue" for serials.

Presently if a title has a holdings statement attached (holdings 866 I think) or it has a description in an item record, and if the fulfillment rules allow for patron physical requesting, then in addition to item-level request links there will be a "Request other issue" link. The resulting form allows the patron to fill in additional values for chapter, page, volume, issue, part and date. Documentation refers to this as a "Request for a Non-Cataloged Serial Item." However, the link presently appears on non-serial items. Ex: https://librarysearch.williams.edu/permalink/01WIL_INST/1faevhg/alma991013241589702786
Given that this link takes you to a form focused on serials-related…

  11. Allow suppression of citation action based on resource type.

Some resource formats, such a patents from CDI, lack crucial information so that the generated citation is inaccurate and unhelpful. For instance, patents lack the patent number, which is present int the record but which doesn't display to patrons. We'd like to be able to suppress the citation action in Primo VE based on certain resource types.

  12. Exclude suppressed records from browse results

Currently, records that are suppressed from discovery still appear in users' browse search results. As explained in the documentation below:

"If a heading contains suppressed or restricted records:
    - These records will be included in the heading's record count.
    - When a user selects the heading, these records will be omitted from the results, and the system will display the following message: Some records are not displayed since they are restricted / suppressed from display"

    https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/020Primo_VE/Primo_VE_(English)/130Configuring_Advanced_Search_Interfaces_for_Primo_VE/Configuring_Browse_Search_for_Primo_VE

We expect that records suppressed from discovery should be suppressed everywhere, including browse. We strongly suggest Ex Libris implement a fix to consider the…

  13. Consolidated booking calendar view for patrons in Primo

Ability for patrons to view all bookable items in a single calendar.

Our library uses bookings for 9 student student rooms, so students may have to begin 9 separate booking requests before finding an available room. This is a tremendous frustration and waste of their time.

A consolidated booking calendar should allow students to preview availability of all rooms before attempting to place a request.

  14. add in a optional conditional facet upon selecting Open Access - showing version options using unpaywall data

A major issue that the use of Open Access content such as unpaywall can have is the version and making people aware of the version they are seen/given them the choice of version (submitted/author accepted/version of record)
For institutions who have Unpaywall collection available and/or their institutional repository data being added in, use the metadata in the background of the record to identify the version that will be available from the link (signpost would also ideally be applied in the Brief record view and/or full record) and when Open Access facet is selected, it would automatically open an additional Facet…

  16. Primo VE: enable search fields for the deepURLs

InPrimo VE, in the "search" : {} section of the PNX record there are some fields that are still not searchable,
like the "unimarclocalfields". It would be nice if all these would be accesssible with the deepURL query parameter
    I.E.: query=unimarclocalfields,contains,XYZ.

  17. Create/add in the ability to show and filter ALL content by place of publication and other data point relevant for decolonising collections

With linked data being such a big part of what has being talked about so far in relation to NDE and AI being used in some new projects such as Primo:Research Assistant, we feel that it's the best time to think about using this data and the data in the CDI records to try and develop tools to identifying, show, filter place of publication or nationality of authors.

We have developed our own facet using local fields, regular expressions and information in the MARC 008 to display the place of publication for items in our collection and filter by facet…

  18. Primo VE: Facet «Publication format» displays entries with capital letters and suppresses apostrophes

We noticed that the facet "Publication format" displays the entries with capital letters at the beginning of each word, and sometimes suppress the apostrophe too (see enclosures). This is a problem, because we never do display words in this manner in French or German. It really looks weird and we would like to avoid that for our users.

    Thanks !

  19. Allow deduping between MARC and DC records with non-filing characters in title

It is currently not possible to dedup MARC and Dublin Core records if the title field contains non-filing characters.

Primo VE can perform deduplication between MARC records in Alma and DC records that are ingested via discovery import profiles. However, the dedup title keys that are generated for MARC records take into account if the title has non-filing characters (such as initial articles), as indicated in the 245 second indicator. It is not possible to indicate non-filing characters for DC records. Therefore, records that would otherwise be matches for deduplication have different titles.

For example, a record with the title…

  20. Allow Indexing and Display of 788 Field

Would like for the indexing and display of 788 field in Primo VE.

The 788 field allows catalogers to make discoverable parallel descriptions in another language https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd788.html and https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/7xx/788.html
