  1. Collection Discovery : Add a button "View this collection as search results"

Beside the buttons to display a collection as a Grid or a Gallery, we would like to have a button to get the collection items in the result list, with the brief display and the facets. This could be a deeplink on the Collection ID with a "query=cdparentid" in the URL.

Please note that there exist two very close ideas:
    https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/36709789-add-facets-into-the-collection-discovery-ui
    https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/37607257-collection-discovery-display-items-in-a-list-view
But this idea groups both features.

    Thank you.

  2. Add 007 to MARC control identifiers for display and search normalization

This would enable normalization rules to target specific resource types.

In cases where MARC data may differ based on current practices (MARC 245 $c: Side B titles vs. Statement of Responsibility), we would be able to differentiate records that may contain uniquely catalogued data.

  3. Allowing the "I only need a specific chapter or pages" checkbox to be defaulted to ticked.

With the introduction of RapidILL, we have defaulted our resource sharing request form to have a format of "Digital". For consistency, we would also like to be able to have the "I only need a specific chapter or pages" checkbox default to being ticked so this matches the format.
The client could then choose to untick (which changes the form format to Physical) if they wish to request a loan.
    Thanks

  4. Extend subject heading display masking to CDI records

Like many other institutions, we have used the subject display normalization rules for display to mask offensive subject headings with more preferable terms.

However, these changes do not impact the CDI records. We would like to see the changes we made in the subject display masking apply to the CDI records, whether through the same rule or through a new configuration option specific to CDI.

For reference: If anyone is interested in our documentation to see examples, it's available here: https://connect.library.utoronto.ca/display/CAUG/Subject+Masking+-+Go+Live

  5. collection discovery

Currently grid items in Collection Discovery can show title, resource type and thumbnail. We would like to add creator/author and or creation/publication date if possible. My suggestion is to add configuration for changing what is displayed in the item grid elements in Collection Discovery.

  7. Translate coverage and licence labels for NZ full text services in IZ views

PrimoVEs in our network use 4 languages for the user interface - English, German, French and Italian.
Consortial and Open Access e-resources are activated in the Network Zone for all the IZs.
When viewing Full-text services from NZ in the detailed view in IZs, the coverage and license labels are not translated to the language of the user UI.
The absence of translation creates discrepancy for our users. The IZ FT services' labels are translated but the NZ services are always in English.

  8. Visualization of Analytical Bibliographic Data in PrimoVE.: Correct Sorting of Parts

A multi-part resource (eg: a sketchbook containing 200 drawings) is catalogued in MARC 773 (host/item relationship). PrimoVE ought to sort and display the component parts using $$g and $$q. Currently PrimoVE fails to do this in the correct numerical order. Rather, the presentation is alphabetical which is useless for component-items organized by their part or page number. There was a recent ideas exchange issue raised on this very topic, which was “solved” by providing the aforementioned “alphabetical solution”. However, a NUMERICAL visualization has much more value in Discovery for patrons who are interested in locating an item as part of…

    Hi all,

This idea was reviewed as part of planning 2026 roadmap, as the solution yet is not clear and we are still examining the possible solutions.

This kind of sorting is more complex as it involves free text values and it requires different sorting method than what currently being used.

This is currently not included in the 2026 roadmap.

We will continue evaluate the possible solutions.

  9. OpenURL resolving - BaseURL configurable for extension to consortial network

If an OpenURL request comes from external to Primo VE, then only the inventory in the IZ is considered and there is no possibility to extend the request to the physical inventory of the corresponding consortial network.

Suggestion for an enhancement: the BaseURL for OpenURL-request should be configurable in a way that the argument "consortial network" can be included in the request [i.e. with the configuration it can be decided whether only
a.) the inventory of the IZ (or Campus)
    OR
b.) also the physical inventory of all libraries of the consortial network should be displayed (i.e. analogous to "search_scope")”

  10. "view in discovery" - a link with flaws

The "view in discovery" function produces only a rudimentary link structure, which is not identical to the link structure produced by a call by end users accessing a portfolio directly in PrimoVE.

Thus, the "view in discovery" function, which is designed to verify the presentation of portfolios in PrimoVE that are administered in Alma, is currently of limited use because administrators cannot assume that the view produced by this function actually corresponds to the view encountered by end users.

For adequate quality assurance, it would be necessary if administrators could freely customize the link structure of the "view in discovery"…

  11. Include available NZ e-inventory within IZ Alma/Primo VE browse indexes

For consortia with Network Zones, the centralized management of electronic resources is an integral function of the NZ. However, the Alma Browse Bibliographic Headings functionality used for the Primo VE Browse Search indexes omits e-resources available to an institution via the NZ.

Within the Metadata Editor, staff can select either 'Institution' or 'Network' when using the Browse Bibliographic Headings function. Selecting 'Institution' includes records from the IZ level, which omits anything where electronic access has been distributed to that institution from the NZ. Selecting 'Network' includes all records from the NZ level, regardless of the institution's physical holdings or electronic…

  12. Ensure that CZ & CDI Metadata is Linked Data Ready

I was advised by the Linked Data Group to post this idea here because I submitted the following for the LOD Working Group webinar in December:

Broader strategic and commercial alliances required to ensure that data is ready to be linked?

To engender confidence in CZ and make it linked-data ready, why don’t the Company do business with e.g. Backstage Library Works for authority control clean-up and maintenance?

Metadata is a global commodity so all stakeholders have responsibility for creating, sharing, enriching and maintaining it, and of course there are costs for all of these elements which we could share.

  13. Primo does not work with some date formats used for old material and rare books.

Primo does not work with some date formats used for old material and rare books. The biggest problem is that Primo only recognises 4-digit dates and does not accommodate date searches for pre-1000 dates that have 3 digits or less. This issue greatly inhibits searches for a significant number of users of archives and rare material collections.

Primo also does not work well with dates in square brackets that include text and unknown dates that have a question mark or dash instead of the wildcard character ‘u’ - e.g. [i.e. 1973], [between 1772 and 1802?], 195? or 195-. These are…

  14. Allow patrons to order a specific item in a fulfillment network

    Hi

We are in a consortium with a fulfillment network.

Which in many cases means that the patrons can not pick which copy of a book they want to order.

While this may make sense as the default (1), it is frustrating for many patrons, myself included.

    • When more than one copy is available, I want to be able to decide which one to get
    • When a book is on loan I may prefer to wait for the copy of my favorite library to come back instead of getting the book from somewhere else

This is especially relevant when I'm…

  15. Add target_url to DisplayCTO output

There is a feature in Primo VE to debug OpenURLs. You add to the OpenURL the parameter &displayCTO=true, e.g. https://uzb.swisscovery.slsp.ch/discovery/openurl?institution=41SLSP_UZB&vid=41SLSP_UZB:UZB&id=pmid:24881163&sid=Entrez:PubMed&displayCTO=true

Now you find between the metadata and the inventory a button "DISPLAY CTO". If you click there, you get an XML file with the metadata details that are available to Primo VE at the moment as well as data for the online services Primo VE will offer the user. However, one important information is missing: The target URL the service will link to is not displayed.

If you, however, use the debug URL of the Alma Link Resolver: https://slsp-uzb.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/view/uresolver/41SLSP_UZB/openurl?svc_dat=CTO&debug=true&debug=true&id=pmid:24881163&sid=Entrez:PubMed

  16. Change the normalization rules for local resource type book

Change the normalization rules for local resource type book and create a new publiction type called Monographic series. The OTB rule in Primo VE is (Leader(06-07) = ac or ad or am) OR (Leader(06-07) = ab|ai|as AND 008(21) = m): https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/020Primo_VE/Primo_VE_(English)/120Other_Configurations/Mapping_to_the_Display%2C_Facets%2C_and_Search_Sections_in_the_Primo_VE_Record
This rule should be created for Monographic Series:
    (Leader(06-07) = as AND 008(21) = m)
We also think that ExL should reassess their rule and exclude this part: (Leader(06-07) = ab|ai|as AND 008(21) = m) and set up a new rule for monographic series (check:https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd008s.html). The codes for ‘ai’ and ‘ab’ are so rare we think they…

  17. Sorting of multiple copies according to item policy "available for loan"

Our library for medicine offers a large number of copies of some standard works. Some of them are not borrowable because they belong to the reference collection (item policy 63). Other copies have the item policy "available for loan, 1 day" (item policy 59) or "available for loan, 28 days" (item policy 01).
    Example; https://slsp-network.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/41SLSP_UBE/hnud4r/alma99116892929105511

In the details display (get it), the items that can be borrowed for 28 days are displayed last and are very difficult for users to find.
Ideally, the filter function should be adapted to contain the option "available for loan", so that patrons can choose…

  18. Hide digitization button when items of a title are on loan / unavailable

We would like to suggest the option to hide the digitzation button when all items of a title are on loan / unavailable.
Currently, titles can be requested for digitization while all items corresponding to a title are on loan or unavailable, which can result in significant waiting periods between requesting a title for digitization and the fulfillment of said request.
Therefore, we propose that the digitization button only appears when an item is available for the title in question. This would benefit patrons, since they can assume that if a request can be made, it will be processed right…

  19. Option to deactivate the Resource Sharing Request Service for records without physical item of electronic/digital services

    Dear colleagues,
this idea is for adding the option to deactivate the Resource Sharing Request service in Primo VE for some groups of records without physical item of electronic/digital services, without having to deactivate the Resource Sharing Request rule in Discovery Interface Display Logic.

This deactivation should be applicable only to local records (catalogued in Alma) and the single institutions should be able to decide if enable it or not.

We would like the same behavour that exists for Primo also for Primo VE (for example, indicating to Primo VE that when the availability is "no inventory" ILL must be…

  20. Field Pickup in Resource sharing form with default to leave blank

Now in the Pickup field, the first library in alphabetical order always appears by default. Many users click ENTER without having correctly filled in the Pickup field.
The best thing is that this field, even though it is mandatory, by default remains blank in opción, to force the user to choose.
