Authority data: first indicator in the bibliographic record
Now we have many mistakes in our bibliographic records in the settings of the first indicator by connecting with authority data (GND, IdRef, ..). It would be great to have an automatic process, which takes over the first indicator of the authority data to the bibliographic record when you select the authority heading.
What you have then is the following: First indicator, preferred term and authority identifier are taken over from the authority record to the bibliographic record by using “select” in the index view of the authority record.
It would be great, if this is implemented for 1XX/6XX/7XX in the bibliographic record.
I wonder if this request takes into account that certain fields in the 1XX/6XX/7XX have different first indicator definitions in the MARC21 standard for Bibliographic fields compared to their corresponding Authority fields. In such cases, copying the first indicator from the Authority to the Bibliographic heading would result in incorrect data. Is the reqeust is about Names only? Hans, I would recommend consulting with AAFG group for a details spec where this requested behavior is valid to which fields.

As far as I can see for the D-A-CH users only the following MARC21 fields are relevant for the suggested first indicator automatic adaptation/setting:
- 100/110/111
- 600/610/611
- 700/710/711Only in the case of geographic names the authority heading field 151 has no indicator in contrast to the corresponding MARC bibliographic fields 110, 610 and 710. Nevertheless, the implementation of such an automatic process should be feasible.

Having to set the first indicator manually when linking a bibliographic field with an authority record is a huge source of mistakes. It would save a lot of time to the data cleaning teams and to the cataloguers, as well as significantly improve data quality, if the first indicator could be copied into the bibliographic field automatically from the authority record by linking with F3.

Would be important for improving data quality!

It would be of great help if indicators in BIB records were set automatically upon using the F3 functionality. In OBV we are currently checking/setting them via a normalization upon saving the record, but with Drools it is not possible to set them correctly in any case.
