Collection Discovery should support Bookshelf (Shelf List) Browse
Collection Discovery is a nice feature in Alma, but it would be much better if it could be a virtual bookshelf browse tool of new titles in user defined disciplines.
Currently, Collection Managers can create collections of titles based on titles sets or title by title additions, but titles within these collections are displayed to users in random order, not as a meaningful collections, and with limited bibliographic information appearing.
The random arrangement is not pleasing, especially in an academic research setting. It would also be ideal to have the ability to be able to harvest out new titles to populate these collections with new materials, also based on classification or stored queries, in order to keep these collections up to date. . . like as RSS feed.
I realize the 050 field for ebooks often does not contain a complete call number, but it might still be used to manipulate electronic titles bookshelf browsing in Collection Discovery. Providing support for shelf list browsing of titles is important for the library’s collections to be experienced as meaningful collections. Johns Hopkins and Harvard used the LCCN for a virtual shelf listhttps://bibwild.wordpress.com/2015/07/23/virtual-shelf-browse/
Please consider a classification search and sort feature for eresources based on the 050, or 050 and date. Collection Discovery would then be much more robust and useful.
