Add preferred pronoun field that displays in Fulfillment Manage Patron Services display
We will be asked to provide a place to store preferred pronoun for our users (e.g. he/his/him) at some point in not too distant future.
We cannot use Note field for this information because we have been told by Ex Libris that if we import notes the entire note section in a user record is overwritten.
We need a configurable field (i.e. we can add the categories of preferred pronoun) that displays in the patron info section of the Fulfillment Manage Patron Services display
The core user record will have a field for selecting a preferred pronoun. The options will be from a configurable drop down such as:
- he, him, his
- she,her,hers
The field will be updatable from:
- Alma form
- SIS
- API
- Primo (VE)
The preferred pronoun will in the Manage Fulfillment Options screen.
It will be possible to locally override this field without overriding from the SIS, like other fields allow (such as user group).

We'd also like to know what is happening with this enhancement idea?
Our institution is looking at this as part of a project, and I've been asked to pass on the following requirements that they're flagging.
Pronoun will be mastered outside of Alma so our requirements are:
- It should be possible to configure Pronoun to be read-only
- It should be possible to configure Pronoun to be non-mandatory
- It should be possible to populate Pronoun from an external system via integrations
- Pronoun should be visible to another users/administrators in as many screens as possible where a user's name is seen
- Some of our approved Pronouns are quite lengthy, so the Pronoun field should allow for 60+ charactersI've also been asked to log a support ticket to follow this up, but I'm concerned at the lack of documentation on this if it has been accepted and is actively being developed.

We would also like an update on when this is planned to be implemented.

Hi Moshe,
This was accepted almost 2 years ago. Is there an update?
Thank you!

Any update on when this accepted idea will be released?

I see that this is set to the status Accepted. What is the timeline for implementation? Thanks!

Hi Moshe.
A similar request was submitted for Esploro. Would this field also be available for display in the researcher's profile?
See related request: https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/929326-esploro/suggestions/44468628-add-preferred-pronoun-field

I have no difficulty with the term "preferred". It is just a manner of establishing the rules of engagement. As we always have a range of terms and each one can be used depending of the context of the conversation.

This is an important identity equality issue that really should be addressed ASAP.

This is a great idea, but just popping in to add that using the term "preferred" isn't so great. They're just people's pronouns. Here's an article explaining it: https://www.forbes.com/sites/ashleefowlkes/2020/02/27/why-you-should-not-say-preferred-gender-pronouns/?sh=1a7173461bd6
While there are some people who use more than one set of pronouns, the standard is becoming that all potential pronouns are included when listed in personal information.
Just something to be mindful of when establishing language that can creep from software into conversation.

This is an important option to include. Even better if we could import into from SIS that include this info.

Preferred name/pronouns are always a good thing.

I think this would be helpful at the circulation desk, too. I think Banner may have preferred name already, but not sure about preferred pronoun.

We would like to see this as a part of our SIS load.

This would be very helpful. In our case (special library), our Human Resources database ONLY transfers employees legal names to Alma. If library staff is aware, we can add preferred names. But a preferred name is not always indicative a person's pronouns.
