Configurable Fines/Fees Behaviour
Configurable Fines/Fees Behaviour
We are a library that has two libraries in two different cities but we are one organization and we share the same economy. The Fines/Fees Behaviour is hardcoded to be owned by library which doesn't mirror our situation. We would like the Fines/Fees Behaviour table to be configurable.
An approach we would like to take is to improve the Fines/Fees Notifications Profiles so that if no library is selected then a single notice will be generated with the fees of all of the libraries.

Hi, are there any news on this planned idea?
It would be quite useful if finally all fines and fees of an IZ and all libraries could be optionally sent in just one message. Since there are currently a number of developments towards library independence, it is also a good time to have a look at libraries with one economy and improve the fines/fees notifications profile.

I'm sorry bother you with this conversation but since we've started it I think we have to end it. If you want to check with support case 487369, 521088 and 554417 is about this question. The first case was created in November last year. So support haven't been able to solve this in 7 months.

Did you mean the "Fines/Fees Owner" field in the Fines/Fees Notification Profile Record? I've tried to leave that empty but I'm sorry to say that it doesn't help.
The documentation says "If left empty, notification is sent for all libraries. " However, I don't think that formulation is very clear. It could mean one letter for all libraries as well as seperate letters for all libraries.

I can't edit the column Fine/Fee owner on the row Overdue fine. It's says it's updated by the user exl_impl but the support told me that's it's not possible to change. The tables says that "Specific rows can be customized".

If you leave the 'Fine Fee Owner' field empty then the notification should be sent based on the accumulated fee across all libraries. is that not your experience ?
Is there any other implication to who's the owner of the fee ?

Yes, I want to configure the 'Fine/Fee owner'. I our case I want fees to be owned by the institution. After that configuration change I expect all users that has an amount bigger or equal to x to get the notification.

I am sorry, I still don't understand what you want to configure. Are you referring to the 'Fine/Fee owner' column ? What do you want to configure ? How do you expect that configuration to affect the fee notification ?

A consequence of this is that when we have a minimum amount x in our Fines/Fees Notification Profile a user can have a total fine of 2x-2 without getting any notification.

Hi Moshe!
It's the table found under Alma Configuration > User Management > Patron Charges > Fines/Fees Behaviour. The knowledge center tells me that the table is configurable (https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Materials/050Alma_FAQs/Fulfillment/Fines_and_Fees#How_are_fines_and_fees_managed_in_Alma.3F) but the support told me that is not. The row I want to configure is modified by the user exl_impl and my only possibility is to restore the value.

Hi,
Can you please elaborate on what's being suggested ? What exactly needs to be configurable ? WHat do you mean by 'separate fine letters' ?
Thanks,
Moshe -

I agree, it is confusing for the patrons to receive separate letters from the same library.

We have the same problem. It is confusing for the patron to receive separate fine/fees letters from the libraries as we are one organization.
