Requests for this function happen on at least a weekly basis at my institution. Patrons do not understand why we can help them with renewals of our items, but not renewals of items from other libraries checked out to them through the same system. I'm always happy to show patrons how to renew materials (ours or a partner's), but sometimes it's more efficient to do it for them and having to explain we can do one thing, but not another just bogs the whole process down.

Hello Amanda,
Would the ability to add comments to orders awaiting approval cover this request? You could post a comment, tag the approver, they'd receive an email letting them know you've posted a note.
Thank you for your suggestion.
Best regards,

I'm not sure this would work with our workflow. Only one staff member acts as an approver, and that's not the librarian selectors, so they can't see the orders awaiting approval list to add comments to items they support purchasing. All they can see is the tag "awaiting approval" if they happen to look up the same item in a marketplace search.

We subscribe to this as well and it would make the available titles more discoverable to have the portfolios in the CZ

Totally agree with the comment that the documentation makes it sound like this is already possible, but in actuality it is not. Having this functionality is key to doing a proper inventory.
I would also love to see a slightly different functionality that would allow one to scan the beginning of a range, and the last item in a range, and get a report from Alma of what it thinks should be on the shelf between those numbers, in call number order, with the current item status. Scanning every item on the shelf is laborious, and that would allow for quicker comparisons of what is on the shelf to what the system thinks should be on the shelf.

Please support this idea. It makes no sense that users with active requests would be able to be purged, thus orphaning their requests in the system. Since coming online as an Alma library in mid-2020, we have built up thousands of linked user records via the AFN that we and our consortium have not been able to purge as best practice for PII would dictate (for reasons described by previous comments below).
