1. Different URL:s in Resource Recommender depending on language

   When adding resources to Resource Recommender you can only use one URL. We would like to have the option to enter different URL:s depending on which language you are using in Primo. All our web pages are translated to English but now we can only point to our pages in Swedish. This would be a great enhancement to all multi-lingual universities.

2. In Primo VE and in consortial Alma setup, display print and electronic inventory even if dedupe/frbr is enabled

   In a consortial Alma setup with a Network Zone and with Primo VE, our consortia has noticed that if an Institution Zone (IZ) has enabled dedupe/frbr in a Primo View and there is print and electronic inventory for a title, the print inventory of other IZ’s is completely hidden and only the electronic displays.

3. Primo VE be able to get information from AVA and INT holding fields

   Currently, Primo VE's normalization rules can only use information from bibliographic records, so it is not possible to obtain and process information from holdings. The classic version of Primo can get this information from the AVA and INT holdings fields but Primo VE can not perform this task.

4. Enable Public Notes display for content within Database-type collections

   It would be very helpful if Public Notes could be displayed for individual content (articles, etc.) within Database-type collections. Currently, Public Notes for Database-type collections can only be placed on the record for the collection itself, and they are not displayed on individual content. So if a user searches for the name of the database (such as
   ProQuest Congressional Hearings Digital Collection: Part A (1824-1979)) they can see the Public Note below the View Online link -- but if they search for an article held within that collection (such as Committee Business. Congressional Hearing, 1980-07-31), there is no public note displayed with the View Online link -- and the info we communicate in Public Notes is most often needed for accessing the individual content.
   This functionality is in place for Full Text and Selective type electronic collections that include portfolios. Public Notes can be placed at the individual portfolio level or at the collection/service level to display on all portfolios. This functionality would be very helpful for Database-type collections as well.
   We are using Alma and Primo VE.

5. Provide Toggle Checkbox When Including Results with No Full-Text

   Please provide a toggle checkbox when the setting is configured to include results with no full-text. We would like to present all results by default and then let a person remove unwanted results (i.e., results with no full text).

   The current setup is the reverse and is contrary to the idea of filtering. People use filters to narrow their search results, not expand them.

   Also, I know there is a Full-Text Online facet, but this only appears after you select a resource type facet. Therefore, this method is not convenient to achieve the same thing.

6. Improve Primo Search Algorithms

   When our users look for a book in the Primo Search Portal they expect that the Primo Search behaves like a Google Search, i.e. they expect that Primo finds books with titles or metadata containing words similar to those in their query. Unfortunately, the Primo Search is very sensitive to the exact spelling of the words in the query. If the search query is slightly inaccurate, the book is not found in Primo. I tried such unsuccessful search queries on www.amazon.de, and Amazon usually found the correct book: Amazon showed the correct hit on top of the list (see attachment). This shows that the search algorithms of Amazon are clearly superior to those of Primo. I feel that Ex Libris should take steps to keep up with modern search technologies.
   Some, but not all, of Primo’s shortcomings seem rather easy to fix. Primo fails to take word flexions in non-English languages into account. Since the endings of German words not only depend on plural and singular but also on the context, Primo’s search results for German queries are overly sensitive to word flexions. However, some of the English examples indicate that improving Primo’s dictionaries will not be sufficient. Over the long term, ExLibris may consider to team up with a specialized search provider.

7. Making the peer reviewed icon more accurate

   Articles and journals are marked with the peer reviewed icon in Primo based on information extracted from Ulrichsweb (https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Ulrich%27s/Product_Documentation/Searching/Ulrichsweb%3A_Peer-Reviewed_Refereed_Journals_and_Academic_Scholarly_Journals).
   The Peer Review indicator can only be set at the journal level at the moment. If a journal is identified as peer reviewed, or refereed in Ulrichsweb, all articles from this journal will be shown with the peer reviewed icon in Primo.
   However, not all articles in such journals are peer reviewed, meaning the icon sends the wrong information to user, and that this label is not reliable. It can further cause users to lose confidence in the system.
   We would like Ex Libris to work on a solution to extract the peer review information individually from each resource, in order to avoid having book reviews, editorials, or simply non peer-reviewed articles being marked as such in Primo.

8. Items loaned to Resource Sharing do not show as included in local scopes

   Primo indexes one location for each item - the current location. In the case of resource sharing, the current location for the item is the temporary location. Therefore, when you search from a local scope, items in the resource sharing location are not found.

   We would like to have the scope reflect the permanent location not the temporary location.

   We have a scope for our Teaching Materials Collection which is specifically geared to our Education major students. They are taught to use this scope in their instruction. Not finding materials in this scope that are on loan via R/S (as opposed to showing them as unavailable/checked out) is misleading.

   Support has deemed this an enhancement request.

9. Allow libraries to configure the Brief Record Display with more flexibility

   In the brief and full display pages, libraries can display information contained in data fields (such as the title, author, and creation date) from the source record. This information helps users to differentiate records quickly. In some cases, there can be a lot of information that is displayed. This is particularly the case when Contributor is added: all 7XX fields are added, and in their entirety (see for example in the attached screenshot).

   We would like an option that would allow the library to either limit the number of fields to display (for example max 3 7XX fields) or to only display fields based on the content of some subfields (for example: only display 7XX where $$e equals 'editor', 'publishing director ', 'translator', 'Director', 'film director'...).

10. Reconcile top-level facet selection (one by one vs. multiple)

    Currently, if you select top-level facets one by one (e.g. "Peer-reviewed Journals" then "Full Text Online"), you get different results than if you select both facets at once (using the checkboxes and clicking "Apply Filters".) The first applies a boolean AND and the second applies a boolean OR.

    Ex Libris support has confirmed that this intended and expected behavior.

    This functionality seems confusing to both our patrons and staff. I think I can see the argument if this occurs within certain other facets (e.g. Resource Type), but because this happens with top-level facets that do not otherwise seem like the same sort of facet (e.g. "Peer-reviewed Journals" and "Full Text Online"), our patrons and staff have been finding this to be unexpected behavior.

    Requesting that this functionality be revisited, especially when it comes to top-level facets.

11. Wrong holdings information for FRBR-grouped books outside of IZ

    When extending the search scope to other libraries, they may find other editions of the book, which they don’t own (https://bibsys-almaprimo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/primo-explore/fulldisplay?docid=BIBSYS_ILS71566408110002201&context=L&vid=SSHF&search_scope=blended_scope&isFrbr=true&tab=alle_bibliotek&lang=no_NO ).

    The original/owned book's barcode is shown for the other edition(s) as well. This is unfortunate as it is quite confusing (contradictory messages, give the impression the library owns resources it doesn’t), and can lead the user to order the wrong book.

    The availability status is correct but the holdings information is not. The ISBN should be used here to prevent tis from happening, instead of the holdings being based on the title only.

    According to Ex Libris (#00628723), this is by design: " this issue is indeed connected to the FRBR-grouping of the two records - because they are FRBR-grouped, you can see the items for both records in each of them".

    The only solution is to disable the FRBR-grouping. This is not an option for us to have it disabled in the local index, so we are hereby suggesting that another solution be found, preventing the problem described here, while having FRBR-grouping enabled.

12. Add DOI and PMID to Advanced Search Indexes in Primo VE

    DOI and PMID searching can be augmented for enhancement in keyword searching in Primo VE, so that these identifiers can be searches as keywords. It would be very helpful to our researchers to be able to more efficiently and exactly search within Advanced Search fields for DOI and PMID. These fields can be searched within unique fields in the Citation Linker, so the indexes exist, but they are not available for inclusion in Advanced Search settings. We would like to be able to add DOI and PMID as options in Advanced Search settings in Primo VE.

14. "Title starts with" advanced search should search alternate titles, too

    The "Title starts with" advanced search in Primo and Primo VE only searches the 245 field, not the 246. This is problematic in cases where a title contains special characters, numbers, etc. For instance, if a user is doing a "Title starts with" search for a book called "Understanding & Dismantling Racism," they would need to use the ampersand rather than spelling out "and" in order to find the book. This is in spite of the fact that the bibliographic record for that book contains a 246 field with the "and" spelled out. One of the points of the 246 field is to prevent situations like this and to allow users to find the book whether they type "&" or "and," Therefore, if that field is not fully functional in an advanced search, that is detrimental to users.     By adding a 'Facets' pane to the Database Search results page, consistency between the different search type's results will be improved and users will be able to post-filter Find Databases searches.
    For example: a user would be able to filter by both subject AND resource type as used to be possible when the Metalib interface was used for the Databases A-Z list.

16. Remove the character limit for the Resource Recommender Description field

    Currently, there is either no limit or a large limit on the Description field of the Resource Recommender when files are uploaded from Excel.

    However, if you open an existing Recommender to edit something (fix a typo, add additional keywords, update a URL), you are not permitted to save unless the Description field has fewer than 300 characters. This means I opt not to fix my typos, and I have to spend the time to rewrite the description to fit into <= 300 characters in order to update a URL. I find this limitation very frustrating.

    Please either remove or substantially increase the character limit on the Resource Recommender Description field.

17. Determine source for Autocomplete-suggestions in a blended scope

    In Primo you can activate autocomplete to get suggestions for search-queries based on what the end-user begins to type in the search-box.

    We have tested the functionality and see that it could be useful for the end user to get these suggestions. However we see that the suggestions from the central index in some cases are a little strange and that you get suggestions from the entire index and not only the sources the institution has activated. This means that the end-user could get suggestions that gives 0 results.

    The local index suggestions seems to be a lot more accurate and useful.

    The source for suggestions are determined based on the scope. For local scopes you get the local suggestions, for a remote scope you get suggestions from the central index and in the blended scope you get suggestions from both local and central index.

    We would like an option in the scope-definitions in Primo to decide the source of suggestions for blended scopes. Meaning that we could decide that we would like to get only the suggestions from the local index and not from the central index in blended scopes.

    Primo VE shall allow the library to customize the "View full text in collection" label in full record display page under view it section. There are different kinds of "link text" displayed in CDI mode which makes our users very confused.

19. Please add $b to the mapping of tags 100 & 700 to Primo VE facets

    The mapping of Alma tags 100 and 700 to Primo VE facets includes only $a. $b contains for both tags the dynastic number of kings, popes and high nobility. Without the addition of $b it is impossible to distinguish for example the English kings $a Charles $b I and $a Charles $b II or popes $a John $b XXII and $a John $b XXIII

    Therefor, we ask to add 100 $b and 700$b to facet values

20. Journal A-Z and Database A-Z functionality based on a campus scope.

    On our current Primo we have Journal A-Z and Database A-Z functionality based on a campus scope. This is due to us having two Primo views - one for Cardiff University and one for NHS Wales. We share a catalogue but have created the ability for our users to search in Primo on a dedicated view depending on their affiliation; so that they receive search results only for items to which they have access. This split in search results includes the A-Z listings. And it is all based around a campus scope. We have been told that for our move to Primo VE (date as yet undetermined) we will lose this functionality. Apparently Journal Search and Database Search function on the institution level in Primo VE - not on scope level (library or campus). And it has been decided by product management to keep this functionality. We are advised to create a new Idea Exchange suggesting to enable journal and DB search on scope level. So hence this entry!
