Remove MARC Relator terms ($e) from Author and Author (Contributor) fields (1XX/7XX) in Analytics
The Author and Author (Contributor) fields in Bibliographic Details in Alma Analytics are mapped from several subfields in MARC fields 100/110/111 and 700/710/711, respectively, including subfield e. But subfield e should not be included in the Author and Author (Contributor) mapping because it is not part of the author name. It is instead a separate element that denotes the relationship between the named author/contributor and the work, the Relator. Thus the $e value may vary or be absent from records although the author/contributor is the same, making it impossible to search upon, identify, and unite author/contributor names in Analytics. Any list of authors/contributors generated within Analytics may include multiple variations upon any author/contributor name because of the erroneous inclusion of the $e Relator term. Subfield e should be removed from the Author and Author (Contributor) fields in Analytics. If included in Analytics, the MARC 1XX/7XX $e value should be in a separate Relator field and not in Author nor Author (Contributor).
Hello,
Thank you for this suggestion.
With the recent introduction of "Flexible definitions of local parameters", libraries can now configure their variations of author fields in Analytics.
Several institutions have already implemented this capability successfully and confirmed that it meets the underlying need described in this request.
As the enhancement now enables the desired workflow, we will proceed to close this Idea Exchange.
We appreciate the community’s input and engagement.

We have used the flexible definitions to create local parameters focused on only the author name subfields from the MARC 100 and MARC 700 fields and they are great. This should serve our needs very well.

Here is a correction regarding fields 111 and 711; the Relator term in not in $e for 111/711 as it is for 100/110/700/710 -- for 111/711, the Relator term is in $j. Having said that, I think the most crucial need is for the removal of the $e relator terms from 100/110/700/710. I will defer to others who work more with Conference headings for their expertise on the 111/711 fields. Thanks!

I can't imagine a use for Relator for the types of Analytics reports we develop, so as long as Relator is indexed in Primo VE, it would probably be enough for us to just trim the $e for the Bib.Author columns
