Print slips for requests should have copyable Request IDs
Our fulfillment staff are alarmed at the amount of paper that requests (both digitization and physical) generates in the form of print slips. We're always looking for ways to minimize our impact on the environment.
They were able to work out a largely digital-only workflow by "printing" the request slips to PDF and using a laptop on a cart to retrieve the physical items. But they are stuck on having to enter the Request ID into Alma.
Barcode scanners won't scan the barcode for the Request ID from the computer monitor, and even though the Request ID field looks like a regular field, the number is actually part of the barcode image rather than the regular text that appears in the rest of the print slip.
So right now, staff have to either type in the request ID from the print slip into Alma manually (introducing the possibility of typos), or run OCR on the print slip using Adobe Acrobat or other OCR software so that they can then copy the Request ID from the newly-created document.
It would therefore be much more usable if the Request ID was just a regular text field on the print slip that staff could copy into Alma. Even if it duplicates the Request ID that appears on the barcode image, that would be a great improvement.
