Several Alliance libraries have attempted to set up ILLiad to check local holdings and availability using Alma’s z39.50 client. The problem is, they are unable to get Availability information as well as holdings information. In the developer’s network, here: https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/alma/integrations/Z39.50, the supporting attributes listed are all bibliographic. Is there any way to get Availability added to the supported attributes?
Interestingly, in ILLiad it is possible to choose between MARC or XML z39.50 records. If we choose XML, we do get Availability information, but no holdings. ILLiad Z39.50 settings allow us to map to XML or MARC format records, but not both simultaneously; we have to pick one or the other. From what we can tell, XML records contain availability details but no holding-level details (which volumes we own of a serial, specifically), and the MARC records do not contain availability details, but do contain holdings-level information. We need both availability and holdings-level information to be returned, so unless these details are already there and just inaccessible by ILLiad (because of some configuration that hasn’t yet occurred in Alma), it seems Ex Libris would need to allow more data fields in either the XML or MARC records. We know XML records, at least, can contain both availability and holdings-level information because we had previously configured ILLiad to map to the XML records in our Millennium Z39.50 server.
