On Hold Shelf – new sorting option
We need a new hold shelf sorting option.
Non of the existing sort options currently existing in Alma is working for our needs. They are ether to long and specific for the user or do not work with our privacy policy when we have a “self service” hold shelf.
It should be a combination of date and a generated number. The generated number should be restarted every day. This number should be visible in the manage patron services and idealy have a persistant search option.
The number could be [day of moth]+[generated number]-[18-00001]- the generated number should be for the whole institution. This should also exist as an xml value in the “on hold shelf” letter.

You can now make use of an additional sequence based number to uniquely identify requests. The system generated additional ID may be added to your pick from shelf and hold shelf slips by configuring the slips’ XSL. You can also add as a visible attribute of the request on the Pick From Shelf and Hold Shelf task lists.

Is it possible to add "Additional ID" to be available in "Analytics-->Request subject"? This unique ID is available in active holdshelf however unavailable in Analytics.

Moshe: Sounds perfect! Use case (see also my comment below): Patrons receive a pickup code on sms/email that they can easily locate on the pickup shelf. Here's an example of what we would like to end up with: https://hostr.co/rZ96iTx3bsWV . The 5 digit pickup code is a concatenation of two digits from the date + three digits from a generated sequence. This way, expiry time is the primary sort and the generated sequence the secondary sort, as you say. As long as there is some generated sequence, the exact presentation can of course be tweaked by each library.

Hi,
Can you elaborate on the use case ? For example, what if the Hold Shelf Placement Time sorting would be enhanced with a secondary sort routine that would be based on a generated sequence, and the sequence would be clearly labled on the slip ?
Thanks,

Yes, we need a sort option as described above. I strongly support the suggestion.

This suggestion is strongly supported. It will keep our user service at top notch, while at the same time preserve important privacy protection aspects.

This is a good idea!
We have an open self service hold shelf, and support the sollution indicated by Mr. Nordanger.

I strongly support this! It works in the local public library, then why not in Alma?

Splendid idea! For the time being, we place the documents on self served holf shelf according to patron ID. But as we have about six or seven different kinds of IDs, both patrons and employees are easily confused where to place the documents. And patrons often put books back on hold shelf on random.

+1. To elaborating a little bit, the reason we cannot print the name of the requester on the hold shelf letters is because we consider information about "who loans what" to be confidential information.
That's why we need a generated, *unique* pickup number/code that the requester will receive on email/sms and that we can print on the hold shelf slip (FulReasourceRequestSlipLetter). By also including the expiration day as part of the pickup number/code, we can also use it for sorting, and it makes it very easy to identify the expired material on the shelf.
