Please add the ability to use the facets for Archival Materials according to LDR pos. 8 = a
Hello,
Most archival materials are cataloged as follows:
LDR pos. 6 = p
LDR pos. 8 = a
Currently, the facet in Alma show these kind of materials as "Undefined".
Adding a facet of "Achieve Material" according to LDR pos.8 = a, would be very useful.
Thanks.
Dear all,
After further analysis, we believe the correct solution here would be to add a separate Alma facet for archival materials, so's not to create confusion or inconsistencies regarding resource types.

Dear all,
I'm looking at the details of this idea, and would like to make sure I understand the request here. You are asking for a new resource type that is effectively archival mixed materials, but will be called "Archival" (without detailing mixed materials) - is that correct?
Today, LDR pos. 6 = p is used for the "mixed materials" resource type, defined as:
LDR pos. 6 = p AND LDR pos. 7 = c.
Making this change would mean you will exclude Archival from the mixed materials resource type, meaning:
LDR pos. 6 = p AND LDR pos. 7 = c AND LDR pos. 8 = a -> Archival
LDR pos. 6 = p AND LDR pos. 7 = c AND LDR pos. 8 = !a -> Mixed materialsIn addition, LDR pos. 8 will be ignored for all other types of records, so archival information will not be reflected in the search for them - for example:
LDR pos. 06 = a AND LDR pos. 7 = c AND pos. 8 = a -> collection
LDR pos. 06 = e AND LDR pos. 7 = m,s AND pos. 8 = a -> map
etc.Am I understanding the requirement correctly? Would it perhaps be clearer to call the new resource type "Archival mixed materials"?
Thanks,

Hi Yoel,
Thank you for considering this idea!
1
Yes, we think it is important to have “Archival Material” in the Facets in Alma (they appear in Primo).
2.
No comment.
3.
I have no objection to have just the LDR pos 8 = “a” as the input to be defined as “Archival Material”, however, please note that in the Primo documentation it says that in order for a record to be defined as “Archival Material” it should have LDR pos 6 = p
https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/020Primo_VE/Primo_VE_(English)/120Other_Configurations/Mapping_to_the_Display%2C_Facets%2C_and_Search_Sections_in_the_Primo_VE_Record
So, there is a mismatch between the two.
If we want to have a record to be define as Archival Material, we will have to have:
LDR pos 6 = P --> for Primo
LDR pos 8 = a --> for Alma
So anyway the LDR pos 6 should be “p”, unless you decide to change the Primo settings.
4.
It depends if you decide to add LDR pos 6 to the conditions.
It looks like the table is somewhat sorted according to the LDR positions.
If “p” will be part of the condition, I guess it should be one of the lasts, since it check according to the ABC of the LDR (please let me know if this is completely wrong).
5.
See the answer to question 3.Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Thanks,
Dafna
