Support for browsing, sorting and display by LC classification/call number, regardless of format
I think Alma/Primo should strive to replicate a genuine browsing experience of the stacks as a feature. That functionality adds value to librarians and libraries (we can do things Google can't) and value to titles themselves, because they appear to users in a disciplinary content, part of a visible collection not just part of an aggregation / repository of searchable content.
Better system support for integrated shelf list of print and electronic resources and browsing virtual stacks would be a win/win. It would help librarians maintain strong visible collections (we need the information too) and would help our online users experience a difference between "discovery" (an inherently passive construct from a user perspective) and deliberate collection development on the part of library professionals. Our charge as librarians is to maintain meaningful collections in the disciplines, not sustaining searchable aggregations of brokered content. Basically, I'd like to see collections presented as meaningful collections online and offer more "push," less "pull" (expecting users to come along and discover items through search).
Please consider building into Alma better support for reporting, searching, sorting and display of all titles by LCCN, regardless of format. Harvard and Johns Hopkins have already collaborated on the development of such an application and put the code out there illustrating both that the demand is there and that it can be done.
