smartphone
In those rare instances when ALMA (or an IT system in general) goes down, is it possible to have a smartphone app (with cut down features) that would allow the issue and return of books using the camera to read a barcode. The data could be held locally (on the phone) until the system returns and the new issues/returns uploaded to the full system?

Perhaps in the existing Alma app, if the device could not connect to Alma then it could show the offline options to the user.

I like this idea! It would work if there was a power outage, or PC failure at the service desk. Or even for an outreach program in a remote location where you can issue loans without having access to the Internet. Not just offline, but off grid circulation.
