How can we improve Alma?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

    Add ability to include or exclude specific location codes in the Retention / Deselection workflows

    Currently the retention and deselection workflows only allow selection for inclusion at the library level. It would be helpful to be able to include or exclude specific location codes within a library's collections, for example it would be helpful to be able to exclude from deselection recommendations all titles in our Special Collections location codes. Currently the only way to do this is to run the search, export results to excel then filter by collection code.

  2. Compare Sets via Overlap and Collection Analysis tool

    Provide the ability to compare the results (either itemized or logical) or two sets of the same type (physical items, physical titles, all titles, etc.) created by the user.

    For example, we're trying to decide which of the two sets created by two library staff is a better set for sending our holdings to GOBI. The results of each set are well over 350k titles. These sets are too large to download and manage a local comparison. So, could Alma's Overlap and Collection Analysis Tool be modified to compare items across two different sets?   3. Add Item‑Level Usage Option to Deselection & Retention Project Scopes

    When determining eligibility for Deselection/Retention Projects, Alma is currently only evaluating title‑level usage rather than item‑level. This means that loans of Lost or Withdrawn items are being considered and the project is actively excluding items that have not circulated for years (because a now lost/withdrawn copy circulated more recently). Further to this, this information is not readily available without going into Alma Analytics.

    Proposal: add an option within the Scope configuration that allows institutions to choose whether usage should be evaluated at:

    Title Level (current behaviour)
    OR
    Item Level (requested enhancement)

    This enhancement would:

    • Improve accuracy of deselection lists
