Add customizable BibTex citekey field
The ability to export Bibtex files is a key feature of RefWorks. However, the format of the citekey is terrible - too long and difficult for users to recall. Other reference managers allow customization of this field, and RefWorks should, too.
47 votesWhile the citekey field is currently not customizable, it is now shorter and meaningful. It uses the RefWorks ref ID and a string composed of the the last name of the first author, the publication year, and the first title word (excluding prepositions and the like).
For example:
RefWorks:RefID:1713-eck2012atlas

Export to BibLaTeX format
RefWorks currently exports to BibTeX, the legacy bibliography system in TeX, but not to BibLaTeX, the modern and powerful bibliographic management in LaTeX&friends. Updating to BibLaTeX data model shouldn't be a big issue for RefWorks as it has the framework for exporting to BibTeX. Other tools like JabRef, Citavi, Zotero... have already native support for BibLaTeX.

Drag and Drop to folders: option to decide whether to copy or move to another folder
Drag and drop a reference to a folder: It would be nice, if I could choose wether I want to copy it to a folder or if I want to move it from one to another folder.

Transfer the search strategy from the database(s) searched to the results folder we shared with library user(s)
It would be very helpful if we could transfer the search strategy from the database(s) searched to the results folder we shared with our library user(s) - our searches tend to be used for publications and search so the search strategy is very important. If PRISMA diagrams could also be added to the folder, this would also be helpful. Thanks.

data-driven article recommendations
There is a demand for data-driven article recommendation function for RefWorks.
Some kind of web services have already implemented this kind of function.
One end-user said that it should be based on not only articles in user account but also references cited in those articles. I hope this idea to be considered.24 votes -
Improve import of author's names
The most common problem we see with the formatting of references is that the author's first and last name are treated as one field, so that the in-text citation would read (Ali Smith, 2017) rather than (Smith, 2017). This happens quite a lot, is there a way to improve the export/importing of author's names?

Improve print/electronic differentiation in imported book references
The default setting for book imports is for electronic books and it is, in my experience, not apparent to users until an inaccurate bibliography is created.
Perhaps you could:
A) Change the default from electronic to print
B) Bring the 'this is an electronic resource' tick-box to the top of the screen when a user imports a book record.24 votesWe are improving the reference view, including always showing fields that are relevant for the selected reference type. This will address issues raised in this idea.

List bibliography in Japanese phonetic alphabets order.
Some of Japanese author guidelines requires authors to
sort bibliography in Japanese phonetic alphabets order. But current RefWorks can not respond to this requirement and it reduce the value of RefWorks.
It might depend on the bibliography database provides, but I am glad if you consider to improve this limitation.24 votes -

Include referring URL or permalink
RefWorks should capture the referring URL or (when coming from an ExL/ProQuest property) the permalink for a record when importing. This would help patrons go back to where they found the item, in case they need more details about it, want to get the item, or want to find other things like it.

Always show custom fields while editing a reference
The old version of RefWorks had the ability to always display custom fields in edit mode.
In the new version each one has to be added manually with the “Add more fields…” button, which is cumbersome. We use custom output styles and each reference needs the same custom fields to be applied to them.19 votes -
Set default folder
How about a feature to set a default folder where refs are uploaded? I'm using the taskbar function to save to RefWorks and I'm required to assign the folder manually from the user interface every time.

Link to pubmed
The old RefWorks version had an option to open the reference in pubmed, that option is not there with the updated ProQuest version? I need to use the update view since google docs and word docs do not link to the old version. I would like a link so I can directly open a reference in pubmed again, please.
18 votesWe are considering adding this option to RefWorks in a future release.

Increase the number of allowed subfolders
Currently allowed 4 subfolders under each main folder. Would like that increase by several more allowed subfolders to better organize large projects or issues.

Opportunity for creating hyperlinks between in-text ctations and related references in the bibliography
As lots of reports are read as pfd-files is would be a nice help for the reader to have the possibility to jump from the in-text citation to the appropriate entry in the bibliography. Creating Hyperlinks Between In-text Citations and Related References is an option that has been seen at other reference tools
