How can we improve RefWorks?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • Create bibliography from folder (including subfolders)

If the option currently exists, I've been unable to find it. I have references for a project separated into folders (instead of tagging) under a root folder and would like to create a bibliography including all references within the folder and subfolders at once so they are in the correct order.

        • 'Create account' link - made more prominent

As the co-ordinator of Refworks workshops and marketing at our university library, we are experiencing students finding it difficult to initially log-in due to the tiny 'Create account' link. We suggest making the the link more discoverable for first time users who enter their individual email user name.
They always attempt the University login. Which I believe is preventing students from using the subscription.

              • online news webpage not taken as per Harvard style

while importing references from online new websites, refworks do capture the references but does not cite the bibliography as per harvard style for webpages accessed online.

                • unable to catch press releases and no option to manually enter details about lectures.

Refworks should support entering press releases and lecture notes when entered manually.

                      • 'Create a new account' when linking to New RefWorks for the first time from a search tool (Google Scholar, Primo etc)?

From Google Scholar, Primo etc, when you click on the RefWorks link next to each search record, it takes you to the following page:

                        https://refworks.proquest.com/combined-export/?groupcode=RWMiddlesexU&detoken=XBLgJo9sJFPnYg1wJ%5B44

If you then select to export to the New Refworks, you are taken to the following page:

                        https://refworks.proquest.com/login/

However, this is problematic, as it does not offer the opportunity to 'Create a new Account'.

We think that users should be directed to the following URL instead: https://refworks.proquest.com/

                        • Be able to support https callback.

It does not support https callback right now. With the wide-spread adoption of https, this should be supported.

                          • Add notes onto references.

It would be useful if you could add notes onto your reference as to the themes or something you want to touch on in your work. Tags and folders just aren't quite enough.

                              • Browser neutral logging in to RCM add-in

When you try to log in to the RCM add-in, you have to have Internet Explorer loaded on your machine. If you don't get you get an error message (but it doesn't tell you why). I'm not a developer, but I'd be very surprised if there weren't a way to make this call browser neutral, rather than specifying a particular browser! Windows 10 is NOT delivered with IE, it only comes with Edge. We have to tell our students to download a useless outdated browser, just so that they can log into RCM!

                                • Put in a duplicate/copy folder option

In order to show progression of research it would be much easier if you could make a copy of a folder and then continue processing this new copy to maintain a record

                                  • Remove formating on import

Cut and pasted or imported html to be stripped before adding to RefWorks. This would separate the content from it's styling and allow the selected citation style to work correctly.

I would like to suggest that when the "Insert/Edit Citation" window opens, it would be nice if the cursor appeared already in the "Search References" bar, rather than having to click on it. This would make the process much smoother.
