How can we improve RefWorks?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Provide administrator the ability to make and edit "Role" and "Institution" options.

    Currently, administrator can not make and edit options for "Role" and "Institutions" which is selected when user create their accounts. This makes it inconvenient for administrator to manage their user and usage stats.

    We are taking a look at this idea, and would appreciate clarifications as to whether you would like to:
    1. Change the selection made by the user to another already available selection
    2. Add selection options (i.e. add new roles)

  2. Delete the "Search Databases" option.

    Please give Administrators the power to remove this option from RefWorks. We spend a great deal of time teaching students how to use our library's federated search tool. This option of choosing individual databases while in RefWorks defeats that purpose. If users want to search a particular database, that can easily be done from our library's website.

  3. Provide the ability for admins to remove Institutional Styles

    Somehow, we have managed to get multiple occurances of the same Style set as Institutional Styles. I am told this is a known issue and that Development are aware but with no date for a resolution. It would be useful if Admins could remove Institutional Styles no matter what account they are from

  4. Administrative reports to support migration from legacy RefWorks to New RefWorks

    Robust reporting is required to performance monitor the migration process from legacy RefWorks to New RefWorks. As both legacy and new RW accounts can co-exist hence why currently it is impossible to determine whether RW account holders have migrated any References from legacy platform to new platform. A migration report should be setup which should determine if any references from the legacy platform to the new platform have been migrated against each account (any new or legacy RW account).     In Legacy RefWorks, admin can customize log-in page. We want this function taken over to New RefWorks.

  7. Enable analytics to refine display of usage stats by IP range or email domain

    We would like to be able to access usage stats for partner institutions to whom we offer access to RefWorks via our account. This access has been set up using IP address ranges and email domains.

  10. Manual Referencing - Editing/Deleting Fields

    It would be useful if fields could be deleted as well as added when editing or compiling a manual reference e.g. Bills – we do not need the Sponsors field as it will add Anon which is not required.

    Provide the Administrator with the ability to view comments made with documents to prevent malicious and harmful comments
