Please negate the need for Refworks to require a new tab and login when I export new references from my Institution's database.
I would like all my exported references to default to the Refworks database I already have open at the time.
Each time I export a new reference into Refworks, I am asked to login again which results in multiple Refworks tabs open.59 votes
Currently additional tabs are opened to avoid overwriting any activity in an existing tab. We are looking into changing the implementation to avoid multiple tabs without overwriting.
One of the most useful tools when reading a document is the ability to search in the text. Please provide us with this essential tool when viewing the uploaded PDF documents.47 votes
We will be updating the RefWorks document reader in the future; we will consider the search option when implementing the new reader.
Drag and drop a reference to a folder: It would be nice, if I could choose wether I want to copy it to a folder or if I want to move it from one to another folder.38 votes
We are evaluating this feature and will update once we have more information.
Add "one line one cite" feature. Gives people ability to insert in-text citations in programs other than Word or Google Docs.
Our campus is using Microsoft Office 365. The "one line one cite" feature that was available in the Legacy version gives the option of being able to insert citations/create bibliographies in other writing software.35 votes
We are planning a One Line Cite equivalent. Once there will be a committed schedule this idea status will be updated.
Although RefWorks supports exporting bibliographies in ODF format, it's missing the integration with LibreOffice. Other reference management tools do provide this, so it would be useful if RefWorks did as well. Thank you!34 votes
The Quick Cite option can be used to copy citations and bibliographies into a document written in LibreOffice.
We are looking into adding this feature to the roadmap.
There is a demand for data-driven article recommendation function for RefWorks.
Some kind of web services have already implemented this kind of function.
One end-user said that it should be based on not only articles in user account but also references cited in those articles. I hope this idea to be considered.24 votes
The default setting for book imports is for electronic books and it is, in my experience, not apparent to users until an inaccurate bibliography is created.
Perhaps you could:
A) Change the default from electronic to print
B) Bring the 'this is an electronic resource' tick-box to the top of the screen when a user imports a book record.23 votes
We are improving the reference view, including always showing fields that are relevant for the selected reference type. This will address issues raised in this idea.
The old RefWorks version had an option to open the reference in pubmed, that option is not there with the updated ProQuest version? I need to use the update view since google docs and word docs do not link to the old version. I would like a link so I can directly open a reference in pubmed again, please.17 votes
We are considering adding this option to RefWorks in a future release.
RefWorks should capture the referring URL or (when coming from an ExL/ProQuest property) the permalink for a record when importing. This would help patrons go back to where they found the item, in case they need more details about it, want to get the item, or want to find other things like it.16 votes
We are evaluating this feature for 2020 and identifying the top referring sites for which this should be enabled.
You can post your choices here.
When viewing references, allow sorting options by date, author(s), title, etc.15 votes
When viewing references they can be sorted by Date Added, Date Published, Author, Title and more. Sorting references when viewing search results is currently being evaluated.
Improve removing a reference from a folder
Current method: Click on delete button, then select remove from folder.
Suggested method: have a remove from folder button on the folder top menu bar.15 votes
The RefWorks Citation Manager add-in always defaults to the “All references” folder after choosing an action. For example, if I go to a different folder and choose to “Edit & Cite” for one of the citations, it then toggles back to the All references folder instead of staying in the folder I had been using. This requires me to keep re-selecting the folder where I had accumulated sources for a project.
For workflow, it would be useful to have RefWorks Citation Manager default to folder last used instead of to All References.15 votes
We are considering this idea for future development.
Being unable to edit the DOI field in RefWorks creates a huge disincentive, especially for APA users. RefWorks needs to update to the latest DOI format (https:) or make the field accept the updated DOI prefix. Users now have to manually edit the DOI in their document. We are getting a lot of complaints from our users.
Users also have to delete the unnecessary database URL that is imported with every citation.11 votes
If a tag has a typo or I realize it needs more or less nuance, if would be nice to edit the names of tags instead of just creating a new tag. Creating replacement tags means redundancies or duplicates when I look at the list of tags. Thanks.8 votes
We are considering adding Bulk Edit of tags.
I sometimes import large numbers of references or are working with databases with large numbers of references, so I set the number to display so that I can see all references on one page. RefWorks keeps defaulting back to 50 per page. I have to keep changing it back and have sometimes only edited/moved 50 references before I realized it had defaulted back and that the rest weren't displayed. Please also stop defaulting to sorting by date added or normal view instead of what I had changed it to. I set it a certain way for a reason and it should stay the way we set it.

Sort by and View type are remembered by RefWorks; we will do the same for number of references per page in a future release.
Enable users to remove an attachment (PDF or other) from a record. When an attachment is added in error, this is a problem.

This idea will be considered for future development.
As of the June release, alphabetical sorting of folders is supported; you can add Z or ZZ to the start of these folders’ names and sort alphabetically so that they will be at the bottom of the list.
It will be very useful (at leas to me) to add a new feature that will allow to set a link between references, i.e.
- is cited by
- is review of
- Is a rejoinder of
And the posibility to use that feature while building bibiographies to inser while citing a book where is reviewed, who has cited it,etc.
A search engine to follow that tree and navigate thru it would be useful too.3 votes
This feature is not part of the 2019 roadmap but is under consideration for a future RefWorks roadmap.
