1. Sentence Casing - stop words

   It would be extremely helpful if RefWorks could have an easy to use function to specify certain words not to be changed when using 'Sentence Casing’.

   If some frequently used words and names were built into RW e.g. America, China etc. so that user did not have to do anything for them, that would be even better. Possibly making that customisable by admin at a site level as well as by individuals would be even better.

3. improve the spacing of text (particularly abstracts) on refworks site

   The text in the abstracts on Refworks is very scrunched up, making it difficult to review the abstracts on screen. Please can there be some way to adjust this or made to 1.15 spacing as a default.

4. Improve output of Japanese authors' names

   Some of Japanese author guidelines requires authors to remove spaces between first and last name.
   To remove spaces between first and last name, I need to edit records.
   If I remove the comma between the first and last name on the Edit screen of record, the space will be removed when the reference list is output.
   However, with this setting, in-text citations are not output correctly.
   I want to output only the last name, but the full name is output.

   It would be great if both the reference and in-text citations could be output in the expected form at the same time.

5. Create a reference based on a URL

   A user can input a doi and refworks will grab the citation data. Why isn't the possible for a URL for a website or video? The bookmarklet frequently doesn't work and this would give another way to get the data into refworks.

6. Notification when Share folder is accepted

   Send the folder Owner a notification or unflag my folder, when the Share recipient accepts the Share / views the folder.
   
   Currently, we have no idea whether the recipient has Accepted the Share, or opened / viewed the folder. Ideally, the shared folder could be flagged as "share pending" until the recipient has accepted or viewed it.

   Refworks citation manager - where a citation indicates "(missing data)" there should be an easy method for determining exactly which elements are missing rather than a trial and error process. Perhaps Refworks could provide an indicator within the citation creation process as to which fields will result in missing data if not completed.

8. Fix Syntax Errors in BibTeX Export, Automatic Sync with Overleaf

   Currently RefWorks' BibTeX export functionality makes a lot of basic syntax mistakes.

   It does not automatically escape symbols such as '&' with '&' and '%' with '\%' as is required.

   It also does not handle company authors well as it takes "Company, Inc." and just writes "author={Company, Inc.}" which is processed by BibTeX as "lastname, firstname". What needs to be done is "author={{Company, Inc.}}" and RefWorks does not do it automatically so I have to keep fixing it every time I export a RefWorks project's references into BibTeX.

   Furthermore, RefWorks' doesn't even attempt to preserve the capitalisation of acronyms like XYZ in "Study of Spam and Eggs in XYZ" which should become "title={Study of Spam and Eggs in {X.Y.Z.}}" so that the acronyms should be preserved even in citation styles where capitalisation is stripped from titles.

   Moreover, if there are special symbols like colons in the title, RefWorks may generate a BibTeX citation key ending in a special symbol which causes major errors in processing by BibTeX. These symbols can be substituted or omitted easily without causing name collisions since RefIDs are never reused within projects.

   RefWorks is crucial in helping me ingest and organise citations. BibTeX is crucial for helping me cite in LaTeX publications. It is very important to me that proper attention be paid to full BibTeX standards compliance (who knows what other errors I've missed!) so that I can use RefWorks while writing my document to update my .bib files instead of having to manually redo all my fixes to RefWorks' mistakes every time I re-export to update the citation. RefWorks should just be able to handle these things with minimal user effort of at most asking a few questions about how the data is to be interpreted.

   Speaking of, it would be great if RefWorks' projects could be linked with Overleaf projects so that the citations.bib files can be updated when there is an update in RefWorks (and that such synchronisation does not overwrite the syntax fixes users have to use!). I'm really tired of clicking through the submenus to find the Export to BibTeX button and manually uploading the file all the time when I need to add references.

   At some point it may become easier to just work entirely in BibTeX for solo projects so I don't have to keep redoing syntax fixes to RefWorks' malformed BibTeX just to add a few more references.

10. Screen Reader Accessibility issue and RefWorks profile creation.

    Hello RefWorks Team,

    My name is Daniel Bernardo and I am a Digital Accessibility Specialist reviewing online course materials at UNT. We reviewed RefWorks in regard to an upcoming course and found some accessibility issues regarding the use of assistive technology for users with visual impairments.

    My colleague who is fully blind and relying on NVDA screen reader and keyboard navigation found that he couldn't continue setting up his profile by himself after registering due to the popup window that appears one the page that is linked in the confirmation email. In particular, the combo boxes to select First Name, Last Name, Area of Focus, and Role can eventually be reached with keyboard navigation but the context for the two fillable text boxes (i.e. "First name" "Last Name" does not turn up in the screen readers. Similarly the selectable options in the Area of Focus and Role boxes don't translate to the screen reader either (each option simply read as "Blank" in the screenreader). He was effectively locked out of completing his account and using the Refworks system unless an outside source could complete the remaining profile tasks for him.

    As a side note, He also took a look in the Knowledge Center and Project Management with the following observations he'd like me to relay to you:

    In the knowledge center there is a heading that is also a graphic without alt text. There also buttons that just say button in the knowledge center as well. In the project management area NVDA let me know that there are clickables but some of them don't have labels and a number of them don't do anything when I click on them as far as I can tell.

    One of the main attractions of Legacy was being able to save extensive notes in Personal Notes which could then be read at a later date and searched by word or name using the search box. For example, if I wanted to find everything that contained the term 'Reformation', I could put that into the search and find every thing I had read which discussed that term in some way. The new system no longer allows this kind of search nor does it show anything except the first line of the notes. This is a MAJOR disadvantage and makes Refworks much less useful other than in compiling bibliographies. Please reinstate these features.

12. Quick cite

    On the old Refworks, one can easily search for multiple references across folders, insert them in the pop up and paste over to inside the body of the document being worked on, and then upload the document to format both the in-text citations and create a final reference list. However, this functionality appears lost in the new Refworks - the pop-up quick cite does not display all references but only 50 at a time, and when one needs to select multiple references to insert as citations and scrolls to the next page, the references copied on the previous pages disappear. This needs sorted. Lastly, the "upload document" feature to upload a document so that all in-text citations get formatted and a final reference list gets created was great and is lost now in the new version - many workplaces do not allow downloading of add-ons such as write and cite to work devices, so would be good to retain these aspects of the old Refworks in the new version.

13. Field mapping and labeling - motion picture

    In the Video reference type the labels ‘Studio Location’ and ‘Distributer/Studio’ are used. However, in the Motion Picture reference type, instead of ‘Studio Location’ the label ‘Place of Publication’ is used.

    This is confusing for students. Can the label be modified by RefWorks or alternatively is there a way to customise it locally for our institutional style?

    There is also a strange mapping issue between Motion Picture and DVD:
    - If you have a record in ‘Video’ ref type format and change it to ‘Motion Picture’, you have to do delete ‘Medium’ and then add it again (otherwise it does not appear in your reference in the bibliography).
    - Similarly if you change ref type from Motion Picture to Video you have to do some editing as the ‘medium’ field maps to a ‘volume number’ field.

14. Provide a RefWorks citation format that will be able to be used by any software

    It would be very useful if there was a way to have a RefWorks citation format for every reference so that we can use them in any software besides MS Word (e.g. MS Powerpoint, Obsidian, Notepad).

    Example: I want to organize my research ideas in Obsidian software. Next to each idea, I want to keep (shortly) the references that are related to each idea as kept in Refworks. I don't mind about the citation style. All I want, is a short unique Refworks citation of my references that will link to the actual reference to the Refworks library.

    Then, when I write a paper, I use directly this "Refworks" type citations I used in the Obsidian just by coping them and pasting them in my Word file without loosing the link with the Refworks library. Then, I select the citation style and create Bibliography.

    That way, we can use References citations to organize our ideas and then easily import them to our final text and create the bibliography.

    APA format requires that author/director precede the video title. The record format in RefWorks only includes a director field. The APA format export places title before director and excludes the [video] of [film] part of the citation.

    Please provide more metadata field options for video records and options to select video, film, etc.

    customize display of Shared folders. Currently, a public URL to a Shared Folder does not allow any customization of how these citations are displayed--or any selection whatsoever--creating disadvantage for RefWorks-naive users.

    Please allow the admin and/or user customization of how references are displayed in public URL Shared folders. (e.g., I might like to display only the title and abstract, etc.)

    Legacy 기존버전에서는 출력스타일/인용스타일을 백업 기능을 이용해서 다른 이용자와 공유할 수 있었습니다. 그런데 New RefWorks에서는 그 기능이 없어 불편합니다. 이용자끼리 '나만의 출력스타일'을 공유할 수 있도록 기능 추가해주세요.

    The users can share the custom citation style by using back-up and restore function in Legacy, but New RefWorks is not. It was very useful feature. I want to share my custom style with my colleague not publish to the institutional style in public.

    As a workaround, custom own styles can be shared with all users at institution by an Admin. Own user styles can be shared with other users with help from Tech Support: https://support.proquest.com/s/refworks
