  1. Display all 5xx note fields as the default in Summon

    Make display of all 5xx note fields the default in Summon in the Catalog Detail page, results screen and elsewhere. These fields already appear in Primo, with various labels (General note for 500, Language note for 546, Awards note for 586, Bibliography for 504, etc.). With these omitted from Summon, patrons are missing vital, helpful information from bibliographic records, such as: accessibility features for patrons with disabilities (532, 546); detailed language information--not just the languages themselves, but whether they’re for subtitles, described video, certain articles in anthologies, etc. (546); awards won for picture books, Academy Award winning movies, etc. (586);…

  2. Opt out of Catalog Match-and-Merge but Keep Full-Text Augmentation

    One of the most valuable features of Summon is the full-text indexing augmentation of physical collection catalog records. The feature allows discovery of many items that wouldn't be found otherwise.

    Unfortunately, if a site opts out of catalog match-and-merge, it loses full-text indexing of its physical collection. I propose separating the configuration of the two features so that a site could opt out of merging its metadata with metadata from other sources but still take advantage of the full-text augmentation.

  3. Take "Language" field information from 546 and not 041

    Please take information for the “Language” field in Summon and the Alma Display Services page from the 546 language note bibliographic field, instead of the 041 language codes bibliographic field. The 546 language note contains more detailed information about the languages included in a resource than the 041, including whether they’re for subtitles, described video, summaries as opposed to full articles, translations, etc. The current information in the Language display is not helpful for patrons. Not only does it not give details about how the languages appear in a resource, the displayed languages aren’t consistent with the language of the…

  4. Fix book review linking

    There's no consistent format for book review titles appearing in various periodicals. Across the Summon index, one sees entries like:

    • {author name} {book title}

    • {book title}

    • Review: {book title}

    and all manner of different combinations of these elements. Unfortunately, OpenURL linking to destination databases fails unless both sources agree upon the format of the title. Summon describes book review titles one way and it might match some databases, many it will not. Links from Summon to ProQuest databases don't even work consistently (see attachment).

    Summon needs an approach superior to naive OpenURL linking or poorly formed searches using title metadata.…

  5. Add A-Z list for databases

    Add A-Z list for databases or allow A-Z order from the list of results in Summon to set a query for custom link.

  6. Allow facet for "Online" (electronic) vs "In the Library" (physical)

    A simple facet that helps users distinguish between electronic materials online and physical materials in the library.
    Using the current "Refine your Search" facet for this purpose feels problematic: "Full text online" feels jargony in our context and also isn't intuitive that it would include non-textual electronic resources such as streaming audio and video, while "Library Catalog" feels similarly jargony and includes electronic records that exist in our catalog. This facet also includes other options that are valuable, but in the facet I am proposing simplicity in having only those two options would be ideal.

  7. "Littel Navigator" for Topic Explorer

    "Littel Navigator" is a discovery support tool which is used in libraries in Japan. With it, user can check the conceptual relations between search words and other related words. The ralations are presented like network diagram.
    It would be helpful for users to expand their knowledge, if it can be integrated into Topic Explorer in Summon result page.

    Please would it be possible to have the option to choose between the existing slider or a histogram/graph for refining Summon search results by their publication date?

  10. Index the Journal of Clinical Ethics at the article level

    I've been receiving reports from users that note linking to specific articles in the Journal of Clinical Ethics via Summon is currently problematic. The article links in Summon will bring users to the latest issue of appropriate journal, but not to the article specified.

    Here’s four examples that have been noted:
    De Vries, RG, Paruchuri, Y, Lorenz, K & Vedam, S (2013) Moral Science: Ethical Argument and the Production of Knowledge about Place of Birth, Journal of Clinical Ethics, 24:3, 225-38.

    Howe, EG (2013) When a Mother Wants to Deliver with a Midwife at Home, Journal of Clinical Ethics, 24:3,…

  11. Video Game Enrichment with Syndetics

    Syndetics offers video game enrichment via UPC, which integrates with things like Primo. While other discovery platforms support UPC integration, Summon does not. Summon should offer a UPC integration with Syndetics for enrichment.

  12. Match & Merge catalog with IR

  13. Change the 'Citation Online' feature for the content type=Report for ASFA records when full text is available

    I would like to propose that the content type=Report for Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) records are changed so that ASFA records with Full text links can be shown instead of 'Citation Online' which is misleading to the client. We have inputted thousands of government document records in ASFA which have a full text link but these links are not currently displayed in the Summon Brief results. ASFA is no longer just an abstract and indexing database as it now includes links to full text publications and grey literature. This should be changed as it can impact all users…

  14. Fields 530 and 550^i not displaying in Summon for records from Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (database F1W)

    I would like to propose that the default settings for the content type=Government document record to be changed. Currently, the default "brief" view does not include the volume/Issue data for content type=government documents. Instead, the Issue field data is located in the Preview section and the client would need to know to click on the Preview button in order to see the volume/issue number. This is not user-friendly or obvious to clients. In particular, this is not working for the display of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstract records.

  15. Option to remove Language button from the burger menu if necessary

    The option for Language (English) appears in the menu even if you are only making English available. If there is only one language available, users should not see an option to select another.

  16. Keeping stop words as part of phrase searching

    Currently, there is a limitation to phrase searching in that if a stop word appears at the end of a phrase it is dropped. This has greatly affected gender studies researchers specifically, in that the phrase "coming out" is unable to be searched - as "out" is considered a stop word in English. If a researcher is conducting a phrase search, what is included within the quotations should be searched. The idea is that phrase searching should conduct searches on what is within paragraphs regardless of stop words.

  17. Update Summon's AGLC citation style - AGLC4 is now available

    We would like to see the AGLC3 citation style available in the Summon UI replaced by AGLC4 (or at least AGLC4 be made available as an option).

  18. Lengthy Topic Explorer

    The current Topic Explorer is so lengthy, possible to shorten it?
    The whole page look very wordy.

    It would be good if we can add the logo of the resource also.

  20. New LexisNexis / Nexis Uni linking solution

    It feels like a very small minority of links to Nexis Uni content resolve successfully. I've opened a number of support tickets without much progress, only to be told that LexisNexis/Nexis Uni simply doesn't work well with the OpenURL resolver. I'd like more development work to go into this connection as it renders a large amount of content in a very popular database inaccessible.
