  1. Separate the resource type/facet "dissertations" for PCI (and CDI...) into "dissertations" and "theses"

Some institutional repositories available through PCI contain a lot of student theses. The resource type/facet "dissertations" contains both dissertations and theses. Users searching for doctoral dissertations and using the facet dissertations end up with a search result consisting of both dissertations and theses. It is not possible to see the difference in Primo. The user have to follow the full-text link to find out what kind of resource it is. This is time-consuming and sometimes misleading.

  2. The list of languages to be shown in their original characters (Advanced search option))

Currently the display language of the list of target records' languages is subject to change. There is no option to customize it on Primo BO, but it would be great if we can show them in their original characters.

  3. Allow configuration of call numbers in virtual browse

If you choose to display electronic materials in Virtual Browse Primo VE only allows 050 Library of Congress call numbers.
It would be good to have the option to choose between 050 or 082, so we could display Dewey to clients instead.

  4. Browse tab results display: don't follow creator immediately by publication date

In the results display on Browse tab for LC call number searches, the creator (1XX) is (almost) immediately followed by the publication date. (There's a space between the two fields). In cases where the 1XX field ends with an open-ended date, it looks like the publication year is a death date.

The attached file has an example which shows:
    Financing consumer sales ... [title]
Geva, Benjamin, 1946- 1984 [authority (1xx) date of publication]

The work was published in 1984, I was in a meeting with Geva last month so he's clearly still alive. The current display is misleading and could…

  5. Ability to use other fields instead of interface name for View Online fields

We are looking to change the display of the "View Online" space. At the moment, if a resource does not have an Interface name, it displays "view full text". I would like to suggest to have the ability to use the Electronic Portfolio name as an option.

Reasoning behind this: We have hundreds of vendors as well as use Ebsconet as our subscription manager. It is clunky to go in to every single vendor just to add an Interface name.

  7. Options for applying Primo Dedup process selectively

We want options that can prevent two Alma BIBs from being merged by Primo Dedup Process.
It could be an option per pipe or local record, or any better method. (Related SF Case# 00872193, etc.)

    e.g.)
    * Alma-P : Dedup OFF
    * Alma-E : Dedup ON
    * CDI : Dedup ON
    .
    .
    .

Currently Primo runs dedup process for all records. (Please correct me if I am wrong.)
It is a necessary and useful function for electronic resources - especially for articles- but sometimes not for local print materials.

Catalogers decide whether to maintain separate BIBs or to merge…

  8. Possibility to disactivate related link to physical holding (based on ISSN) for articles

On Primo VE, when a CDI record contains an ISSN that matches physical holdings (ie. the catalog contains a physical version of the journal that contains this article), it will automatically add on this record a GetIt section with the related physical holdings.

    Example:

    https://virtuoseplus.sorbonne-nouvelle.fr/permalink/33USPC_USN/1lm7vtm/cdi_gale_infotracacademiconefile_A391721336

This can be disturbing for the user (and even for librarians), as the get it section shown for this article record contains all the issues in the holding associated with the ISSN, and not only the one containing the article. When the library detains many items in the related physical holding, it doesn't help much…

  9. Allow Primo/Primo VE View customization packages to accept .db files and .DS_Store

The view customization packages for Primo and Primo VE do not allow .db files. When someone opens a folder with images, Windows automatically creates a hidden Thumbs.db file. MacOS creates similar .DS_Store files.

This file can be difficult to remove even with rights to view and delete the file, since Windows will sometimes indicate the file is in use and cannot be deleted.

Rather than jumping through hoops to recreate the customization package structure and carefully place images only in the desired folders never to be opened again, I would propose that Primo and Primo VE accept customization packages that…

  10. Calculated availability for non-full text records in digital imports from repositories

In Primo VE, institution repositories are limited to one label. For example, a link to the full online resource or a link to the physical resource are both labelled as ‘Full Text Available’.

This is a problem, as not all repositories are the full text, some repositories may just be an abstract.

Primo's label options are better, it is clearer to the user by the various different labels, for example ‘Full text available’ or ‘No full text’.

We would like Primo VE to have the various different labels, like Primo.

  11. Add ability to save a record with a label while in the full record (Saved Record with label to My Favorites)

I'm a student reviewing a list of results in Primo for a new assignment. I only have a bit of time right now to start my research, and in this first session I want to save articles which look like they meet my topic. Then I plan to come back on another day when I have more time, to do more detailed assessment of the articles I saved, read the full text, and start writing my assignment. I'm using a label to organise the articles in My Favorites, because I have quite a few topics for several assignments due in…

  12. Collection Discovery: allow searching subcollections' contents at the collection level

Currently, when a user searches in a collection, Primo only returns objects that are directly located under this collection, ignoring any contents located in subcollections. This means that the user needs to open each subcollection and do the search again to discover all objects included in the collection. This is cumbersome and counter-intuitive. We would like that the search results also include objects and subcollections located at lower levels in the hierarchy.

  13. Allow Bibtex information to be copied and pasted rather than only downloaded

Currently, Primo requires that users download Bibtex and other citation data to their computers, and then upload or copy it from a document. This takes up valuable memory. Google Scholar has a feature that allows you to copy and paste the Bibtex citation directly from the browser rather than needing to download it, saving space and the hassle of saving and uploading a list of resources to their computers. Could a similar functionality be created for Primo VE where Bibtex information can be copied and pasted rather than just downloaded?

  14. Allow Database Facet/Filter/Limiter in Primo VE

We would like the ability to filter results by database in Primo VE. For example, if someone searches "biology", but has been instructed to only use articles from our Academic Search Premier database, there would be a way to limit to both articles and the Academic Search Premier database.

  15. Change handling of MARC fields 100 and 700 in citation styles in Primo VE

Handling of MARC fields in citation styles should be changed as follows:
    1. If there are relator codes in $4, only $4 aut and cmp should be considered as author, relator codes $4 edt, ill, ivr, trl and drt should be treated as contributors. Entries with other $4 codes should be ignored for citation.
    2. If there are no relator codes $4 in the record, field 100 should be considered as author, field 700 as contributor.
Benefits: Citiation styles get independent from cataloguing language as they are now by using $e. Also citation styles work independent from the fact, if…

  16. Add the creation date to the titles in the Saved Search Letter

Users can set an alert on the Saved Searches page and will then receive the Saved Search letter by email whenever there are new results for their saved search. However, a new result is not necessarily a new publication. The Saved Search letter could also contain older publications which are new to the inventory of the discovery system. For the users, it would be helpful to already see in the Saved Search letter the creation date of the titles, so that they know which results are real new publications. In Primo VE, however, it is currently not possible to add…

  17. Permalinks that go to View It / Get It tabs

Enable Primo to be configured to create Permalinks that go to View It / Get It tabs to give the user quicker access to a resource.

In order to still be permanent, system administrators should be able to configure an order of preference for the permalinks between view it, get it and details to guarantee the link goes somewhere as long as the resource remains in Primo.

  18. Make integration with Alma more seamless in regard to the PCI and Link Resolver

When we activate our Link Resolver databases in Alma, we have to do it all over again in the Primo PCI. This is redundant effort. Yes, it is one time, but new libraries have enough else to do to configure the system and this seems like an unnecessary step.

  20. Add the 'until' argument to OAI-PMH pipe configuration

When creating a pipe to harvest using OAI, we can currently set the 'from' date but not an 'until' date. When harvesting from a large repository, this means we have to collect the whole set in one go - which may be a problem for Primo and/or the repository. We would prefer to process, say, three months data at a time.
