  1. Add a feature in "manage projects" to hide or group projects

Add a feature in "manage projects" to hide or group projects. Our instructors have a long list of projects that students have invited them to that they'd like to organize into current and archived areas to more easily navigate.

  2. Add "Last Month" short cut in Refworks Analytics

In the RefWorks Analytics interface in Admin, the default option for time is "This month", "This year", "Last 12 month" and "Custom". It would be very convenient to add an option for "Last Month".

  3. Refworks citation manager - where a citation indicates "(missing data)" there should be an easy method for determining

Refworks citation manager - where a citation indicates "(missing data)" there should be an easy method for determining exactly which elements are missing rather than a trial and error process. Perhaps Refworks could provide an indicator within the citation creation process as to which fields will result in missing data if not completed.

  4. Refworks citation manager

Refworks citation manager - the order of folders to narrow the citation selection from 'all references' down to a particular folder should be reversed, such that the most recent folder created, and therefore the one most likely to be required, should be at the top of the list and not the bottom.

  5. Automatically switch from Title to Short Title in repeated references

In Chicago Notes & Bibliography style, repeated references are supposed to display a shortened title.

    For example, the following book:

Barbie Zelizer, Remembering to Forget: Holocaust Memory through the Camera's Eye (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2003), 7.

Subsequent citations after the first should appear as:

    Zelizer, Remembering to Forget 7.

Please add an option to replace the Title field with the Short Title field in repeated references. (Or better yet, use AI to automate shortening titles!)

  6. In RCM, allow reordering of references within a group of in-text citations.

In WNC we could re-order in-text citations within a reference grouping, but there's no way to do this in RCM without deleting them all and re-adding in the preferred order, which can be time consuming with many references. This is relevant for numbered styles such as AMA. For example:

    Original:

Many studies have found xyz. 1,2,3
    Ref list
    1. Smith 2023
    2. Jones 1999
    3. Bates 2004

Then we decide to move Jones into the first position for:

Many studies have found xyz. 1,2,3
    Ref list
    1. Jones 1999
    2. Smith 2023
    3. Bates 2004

  7. Fix Syntax Errors in BibTeX Export, Automatic Sync with Overleaf

Currently RefWorks' BibTeX export functionality makes a lot of basic syntax mistakes.

It does not automatically escape symbols such as '&' with '&' and '%' with '\%' as is required.

It also does not handle company authors well as it takes "Company, Inc." and just writes "author={Company, Inc.}" which is processed by BibTeX as "lastname, firstname". What needs to be done is "author={{Company, Inc.}}" and RefWorks does not do it automatically so I have to keep fixing it every time I export a RefWorks project's references into BibTeX.

Furthermore, RefWorks' doesn't even attempt to preserve the capitalisation of acronyms like…

  8. Looked by Author/Periodical

Please re-implement "Looked by Author/Periodical" features that were implemented in the legacy Refworks.

These functions were very useful for keeping track of the total number of articles by author and by publication in the database, and for browsing through the lists.

  10. Citing pre-prints in RefWorks

There is a growing interest and use of repositories (like https://arxiv.org/) for publishing these non-peer-reviewed articles and abstracts, especially in the computer science, Physics and other engineering fields. As of today, such an option is not available in the RefWorks.

  11. Improve Citation Style Editor

In the Bibliography Setting for legacy RefWorks, user can add Ref ID field, carriage (with n), or tab (with t ). We hope this function to be added to New RefWorks also.

  12. Allow the option of Advanced search in Public folder shared

For many years we have been using a shared public folder that contains the publications of our Institute's researchers.
In the previous version of Refworks, the Advanced Search option was present in the public shared folder which allowed you to search for references of interest (for example: references by Year of publication/Document type/Department-custom field) and then quickly create the bibliography and/or export only the recovered references.
The shared public folder in New Refworks only has the "Search" option.
Please add the option Advanced search.

  13. Screen Reader Accessibility issue and RefWorks profile creation.

    Hello RefWorks Team,

My name is Daniel Bernardo and I am a Digital Accessibility Specialist reviewing online course materials at UNT. We reviewed RefWorks in regard to an upcoming course and found some accessibility issues regarding the use of assistive technology for users with visual impairments.

My colleague who is fully blind and relying on NVDA screen reader and keyboard navigation found that he couldn't continue setting up his profile by himself after registering due to the popup window that appears one the page that is linked in the confirmation email. In particular, the combo boxes to select First Name,…

  14. Please make 'personal notes' visible in full and searchable (as in Legacy).

One of the main attractions of Legacy was being able to save extensive notes in Personal Notes which could then be read at a later date and searched by word or name using the search box. For example, if I wanted to find everything that contained the term 'Reformation', I could put that into the search and find every thing I had read which discussed that term in some way. The new system no longer allows this kind of search nor does it show anything except the first line of the notes. This is a MAJOR disadvantage and makes Refworks…

  15. Ordering of references in folders compared to in Bibliography

Please can it be made possible to order references in a folder in the same order as a bibliography.

I wanted to view the references in a Refworks folder in the same order that they were supplied by the bibliography function.
I tried ordering them in the folder by "publication date" but this didn't seem to provide the same order.

  16. Set candidate duplicates as "no duplicates"

While deduplicating records that have been suggested as duplicates and that I have recognised as not being real duplicates accumulate at the beginning of each new page. They can become a hindrance, so it would be useful that there is a way to tell RefWorks that those records ARE NOT duplicates, so it would stop displaying them in deduplication pages.

  19. Always show custom fields while editing a reference

The old version of RefWorks had the ability to always display custom fields in edit mode.
In the new version each one has to be added manually with the “Add more fields…” button, which is cumbersome. We use custom output styles and each reference needs the same custom fields to be applied to them.

  20. Optionally avoid deduplication when a criterion is void

While deduplicating it can happen that RefWorks suggests large numbers of candidate duplicates because one of the chosen criteria is void, e.g. I choose "title/ISSN/page number" and RefWorks suggests a large number of totally unrelated records just because they all lack the page number - this is taken by the algorithm as "match succeeded". Since this behavior could be sometimes useful, there should be an option "also match void criteria" to choose when it is deemed useful by the user.
