How can we improve Summon?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

    Enable the admin to remove the "Request" (Place Hold) button and functionality from the search results.

    Allow for the custom panel to be collapsed by default. Instruction Librarians feel that displaying custom panel's create too much distraction on screen.

  3. Make use of BL or LC Name Authority Headings

    Users would like to be able to differentiate between authors of the same name when searching Summon, using the Name Authority headings already available in the BL or LC catalogues/name authority indexes:

  4. Add a new report for all search terms

    Add a report similar to popular search terms that lists all search terms no matter how many times it has been searched as the popular search terms report has a default of a minimum of 16 hits.

  5. Search by URL in the client center

    It would be great to be able to search a journal's URL in the client center. Sometimes I need to find out which collection uses a certain URL for a journal and doing a title search + checking each title individually is cumbersome.

  6. Start Collecting E Media reports (IR_M1) in Intota

    The COUNTER IRM1 report is necessary for ACRL IPEDS survey's e-media usage reporting. As many academic libraries must comply with this reporting, It would be greatly appreciated if you could begin collecting IRM1 reports.

  8. Database recommendations on Summon over Alma. Add the ability to customize the database descriptions

    In Summon you can customize Name, URL and description of each database recommendation via the Client Center.
    Summon over Alma customers have an uncomplete feature: they can customize Name and URL of each database recommendation (changing name and level url in the corresponding collection in Alma),
    but they cannot change a default database description or add a description when it is not there.

    When a customer has Summon over Alma, the Client Center is not anymore connected to Summon, but it looks like that it is still expecting eventual customized descriptions from there, from the Database Details page.

  9. Retain special characters in 245 subfields

    It would be nice if Summon was able to selectively retain special characters in the title mapping field, for example 245$p. It currently strips special characters such as brackets [] from these fields. We use brackets in our $p field for certain reasons and it would be nice if Summon would leave them in when displaying the Title fields.

  10. Would like to see more options

    Great initiative! I'd love to see more options e.g., advanced search filters, integration with X platform etc. This would significantly improve my research workflow.

    Have the option of Month/Year as an acceptable format for custom dates. This is often how journals are dated.

  12. Fix EZproxy rewriting on altmetric links

    Citation count links to Web of Science and Scopus are rewritten under an EZproxy session but links to altmetric are not.   13. Database recommendations based on content type facet

    Currently the database recommender is powered by tags (and an algorithm based on the result set?). We would like for the content type facet to also power database recommendations. For example, if the music facet is selected, Naxos is recommended. If the standards facet is selected, Standards Australia is recommended. The new database facet assists with this to a degree, but it is not foolproof.

  14. Increase limit on collected search strings in OBI usage statistics

    OBI usage statistics keep track of the 200 - 500 search strings per month performed by users. These are available in the Summon Popular Searches report available in OBI.

    It would be useful to have access to a more complete list of search strings each month though, in order to perform analysis such as subjects of interest to users or search trends over time.

    This enhancement request proposes to increase the amount of search strings recorded. A preferred options would be to allow institutions to set how many search strings would be recorded per month (ie. ranging from none to…

  15. Improvement request for Removed Titles report

    If titles are removed to make a zero title database, the information does not appear in the Removed Titles report.

    Therefore, I must constantly check 360KB News to be aware of any title removal.

  16. Sorting results with Web of Science Citation Score

    It will be nice to sort search results with the citation score of Web of Science.
    It is also desirable as a next best practice to provide a refinement function for limiting the search results to those with WoS citation score.
