  1. Drag/drop results facets

We would like to be able to let our users personalize their search experience by dragging and dropping results facets into different positions in the list. For example, our first facet is Show Only. If a user wanted to see Material Type or Publication Date first, they could simply drag one of those facets to the top of the list. Making those choices persistent through a session and/or through their own personal account would be even better.

  2. Add a search results permalink to the New UI results page

When we do searches in Primo for patrons, we often want to be able to send them to a list of results, rather than a specific item.

There is a jquery customization the classic UI created by Western Washington University at https://www.orbiscascade.org/blog/9/?bid=121

However, that customization does not work on the new UI, and requires users to be able to create a SQL database to store redirects, and to store files on a local server.

Ideally, search results permalink functionality could be built into Primo's New UI.

The attached screenshot shows the WWU search results permalink in action.

  3. Use of initial articles in title starts with searches in Primo Advanced Search

Primo is currently unable to adequately accommodate initial articles (a, an, the etc.) when doing a title starts with search in Advanced Search.

The first title field that appears in the sort section of the PNX is used as the title that is matched against when doing a title starts with search but this leads to different outcomes depending on whether the records are indexed from PCI or Alma:

When the title field in the sort section of the PNX is created from Alma the default behaviour is to strip the initial article
When the title field in the sort…

  4. Restrict discoverability of e-resources for walk in users to those resources they are licenced to use

We're looking to restrict the discoverability of electronic resources for walk in users to those resources they are licenced to use.

Ideally, Primo would identify that the walk in users were from a certain IP range and in combination with an Alma licence
condition which allowed walk-in use to the resources, it would allow them to discover the resource.

  5. alerts based on a range of call numbers

We would like our users to be able to define an alert in primo, based on a range of call numbers – for example:
    lc = "ds67->ds79.99" .

  6. Sort Favorites by Call Number, Library & Location

Patrons often use the Primo My Favorites function to build lists of titles that they want to retrieve from library stacks. Currently, the only sort options for these lists are Date Added, Title, and Author—none of which are particularly helpful for retrieval. Please consider expanding sort options to include Call Number, Library and Location?

  7. Add a multilingual keyboard to the User Interface

Our patrons want to search in multiple languages in Primo, e.g. Chinese, Russian, Arabic, etc. When they come to the library they are often limited, because of the local keyboards. A virtual multilingual keyboard would be an ideal solution to support their needs.
Portal Judaica (cf. screenshot attached) provides an example of how to implement this in the user interface. The website https://www.lexilogos.com/ supports a variety of languages to give you an idea of which languages should be supported by the virtual keyboard. Thank you for voting.

  8. Pre-filter for Primo database search

Please add pre-filters to the Primo database search to allow users to filter their results prior to performing a search (as it is possible for a general Primo search).

This would be very helpful for e.g. database types (bibliographies, dictonaries, subject gateways, reference works, etc.) or other database indicators like "Open Access", "Full Text database", "Database supports OpenURL", etc.

It should be possible to use these pre-filters in combination with all database search options:
    - search for a keyword
    - A to Z index search
    - Category search
and choosen pre-filters should remain for the session (like the "sticky" facets),…

  9. Make the path shorter to change PIN code for self check

One of the most frequent problems our borrowers have is that they have forgotten the pin code they use when borrowing books at the self check machine. We prefer that they change it themselves by logging into their account, but doing that is rather cumbersome. The function is hidden under My library account/Settings/Address/language settings/Update login credentails. It could instead be placed in the menu or lifted so that it appears before the adress and language settings.

  10. Privacy in patron letters

Currently, patrons receive detailed item information in patron letters. We would like to make it possible for patrons to turn off letters (such as when they do not want this detailed information living in their email accounts).

In testing, we found that the current 'Personal Details' configuration in Alma (https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/020Primo_VE/Primo_VE_(English)/060Library_Card_Configuration/Configuring_Personal_Details_Settings_for_Primo_VE) does not allow us to limit patron changes to ONLY the notification preferences.

  11. Streamline favourites by adding the ability to create labels from the item.

It would be great if once you clicked the add to favourites button for an item you were either presented with a "Would you like to add a label" option, or the ability to add labels/tags from the ellipses menu, rather than having to go to the favourites menu.

  12. Improve Primo linking to limit dead/inaccurate links

To prevent user confusion, frustration, and access delays, we would like Ex Libris' Primo to mirror a feature that LibKey calls "Entitlement Confirmation," which would help prevent delivering dead links to end users, especially when Metadata in the CDI is lacking or incorrect.

Delays between publishing and availability, especially with third-party databases (like EBSCOHost), happen often and can vary in length due to the nature of aggregation. The proposed change would confirm if content is available before indicating to end users that it is. This saves user and staff time and effort, streamlining the process and managing expectations while providing…

  13. "Feedback Tool" for the New Primo UI: insert the e-mail of the logged in user automatically

Currently the field "e-mail" in the Feedback form is defined as optional.

As well as with the current e-mail functionality of bibliographic citations, we would expect the e-mail to be automatically pre-filled when a user is logged in. But unfortunately this does not happen.

Please insert the e-mail of the logged in user automatically or at least give us the possibility to set this option in the Primo backend.

    Thank you in advance!

  14. My Library Card: add sort by date option to requests list

  15. A function for academics to easily check a reference list for AI gen imaginary references

Allow academics to cut and paste references from a student assignment to be alerted to potential 'imaginary' references created by GenAI tools.

It's currently possible to check each reference individually but a way to provide a set of references to Primo and get a report of what is probably real and probably not real (worthy of digging deeper) would be of some assistance to academics navigating assessment challenges in an AI world.

I don't intend anything punitive from this - I see this as part of the educational journey of a student in learning academic integrity.

  16. Request physical book when e-book is also available at home or other libraries

No request or resource sharing option is available when the home library has an e-book. There are many scenarios where a patron may need a physical book and they should have the ability to request one from Primo.

  17. Bulk search results export

In a recent user survey, students provided feedback they would like the ability to export all or a large number of their search results. Currently they are limited to a maximum of 50 results at a time. Users reported they had worked to create a search strategy and were disappointed they could not obtain a full list of their search results, and were forced to move to searching individual databases instead.

  18. "Feedback Tool" for the New Primo UI: possibility to define the e-mail field as a mandatory field

We have been using the feedback tool for a few weeks now and have unfortunately received many requests where the users did not provide an e-mail address.
As a result, we have no way to ask a question or explain the reported behaviour (as it is correct).

Therefore, we would be glad if the e-mail field can be defined as a mandatory field in the Primo back office.
A user can of course still enter a fake e-mail address, but then this is a deliberate action.

    Thank you in advance!

  19. My Favorites load automatially as user scrolls down

In a recent student survey we had feedback that users would like their complete list of Favorites to be more accessible and visible. In particular, users requested that instead of choosing 'Load more results' after every ten My Favorites, that their My Favorites list auto-loaded as they scrolled down the page.

  20. Add Reserves "Reading List" to facets navigation panel.

This would allow a clean up project for a multiple location library system. It would bring reserves more closely aligned with standard cataloging by basically using the Course as a high level catalog record (think bib level), Reading List as middle tier (holdings level shelving location). By combining the Course to one entry with the reading lists showing shelving, it would take our records from five courses and five reading lists per class offering to one course with five reading list. This would help clean up database space and form more consistency across locations.
