How can we improve Summon?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. Move Cites/Cited by data to the right pane "custom panel"

    In order to reduce patron confusion, I would like see the Cites/Cited by information to be displayed in the right-hand pane. This would reduce confusion and allow patrons to see their search results simultaneously with citations. Additionally, I would retain the title of the result on which I clicked.

    This makes functionality more similar to "Related Items"

  2. Change Availability Statement of DDA titles to something other than Full Text Online

    We currently have Automatic Holdings set up for E Book Central Perpetual and DDA database.
    The original set up was done quite quickly and therefore only our owned titles appeared in Summon, but students could search for DDA titles in the EBC platform.
    However EBC have sorted out the set up so now over 500,000 DDA titles are discoverable in Summon.
    This might not be a bad thing except that the availability statement tells the user we have Full Text Online.
    My proposal is that there is a way of distinguishing DDA titles from Owned titles for Automatic Holdings, and…

  3. Have the ability to change from OR to AND in the list of subjects

    Right now, unless something has changed, when we use the Subjects list to apply additional terms, the OR statement is automatic and there is no alternative. However, that is not necessarily how a student thinks when selecting Subjects. There are many times one will want to have more than one subject term added to the search with an AND statement.

    So, for example, if I am looking at "emergency nursing" and I see in the subjects list "hospitals" and "health policy & services" I may want both terms in my search not either.

    If it's doable, it would be nice…

  4. Search keywords should remain after logging in to EZProxy

    When users log in to EZProxy from the authentication banner at the top of Summon,
    the keywords they were searching just before will be reset, so users will need to enter the keywords again.
    It would be convenient for them if the search keywords were inherited even after logging in to EZProxy.

    In the Journal Search section, have the ability to search by LC call number as an additional option to Title or ISSN.

  6. Delete search words when returning to top page from Home Link on result page.

    When returning to the top page from the Home Link in the upper left corner of the search results screen, the current Summon is designed to carry over the search words as they are, but I would like it to be cleared each time.

  7. Include a "Library" facet and a "Location" facet

    For Summon institutions with multiple libraries, it would be useful to include facets for library locations and collection type locations.

    For example, users could filter by the library building using the "Library" facet, and also filter by collection type (ex. Stacks, Reference, Reserves) by using the "Location" facet.

    Currently with the "Library Location" facet, library buildings and collection locations are listed here and connected only with "OR". By separating them into their own facets, we can utilize the "AND" logic.

  10. Import LibAnswers by college in shared group systems

    Springshare's LibAnswers FAQs can be imported into Summon, but not for individual libraries in Springshare "shared group systems." In our case, the API url provided for the entire system is https://maricopa.libanswers.com/api/1.1 while the url for my college is https://maricopa.libanswers.com/api/1.1/faqs?iid=2299. The only API url recognized in Summon is the one that ends in 1.1 - for the entire system. This enhancement request is for Summon to allow existing API parameters to pull in LibAnswers FAQs by group.   12. Show unreceived orders in Summon

    At the moment, items ordered in Alma are not displayed in Summon until they have been received by the library. We need lecturers and students to be able to follow the progress of requests they have made or check whether we have already ordered a book before requesting it.

    Alma sends to Summon the following Availability information:

  14. Content Ingestion report - internal processing error

    I think it would be useful if the record ID was included in this report so that we know which records are missing from summon.
    At present this just seems like a black box; we have no idea what the problem is, how it is resolved and when/if it is resolved.

  15. Workable automatic authentication of ExLibris books purchased in Summon

    Can we please have an automatic authentication system for ExLibris books we purchase that works? The current system does not work.

    We have had significant problems with a delay between purchasing a books via ExLibris and these books being searchable in our Summon- backed library site (books purchased on 22.9 are still not viewable on 2.11 - despite countless emails and tickets).

  16. Linking correct URL: Ebook Central Perpetual and DDA (AABBV)

    For some titles in this database not only one but several URLs are stored in the Client Center. Then the correct URL is not always selected and the link to the full text does not work correctly. Although the link leads to the Ebook Central platform and the correct title is opened, but access does not work. A message appears that this title is not available. Then the correct URL must be added manually in the Client Center as "User-specific URL". Work can be saved and processes simplified if the workflow is set to automatically use the correct URL of…

  17. "Automatic holdings management" process for database "eBooks on EBSCOhost" (CZZ)

    We buy single title e-books from ebsco regularly and have to activate the titles manually in the Client Center (database "eBooks on EBSCOhost"). It would make things much easier if there is a "automatic holdings management" process for this database.

  18. Summon over Alma: Change Alma Service Page UI language by Summon UI language

    For Summon over Alma clients, Summon is the only OPAC for patrons. At present, only 1 direct link rule can be set. The link rule to Alma Service Page has language parameter, but it cannot be set by Summon UI language differently from Primo. We'd like to request that Summon has the feature to set multiple languages parameters by Summon UI language. Currently, from Summon English page results, Alma service page displays Japanese UI. This is inconvenient for English patrons.

  19. add subject and abstracts columns in the upload template

    we have some library specific databases for information not available yet (no agreements with the publisher etc.). The titles in these databases have no subject or abstract information. It would be great when this information could be added. (add subject and abstracts columns in the upload template)

  20. Increase limit on collected search strings in OBI usage statistics

    OBI usage statistics keep track of the 200 - 500 search strings per month performed by users. These are available in the Summon Popular Searches report available in OBI.

    It would be useful to have access to a more complete list of search strings each month though, in order to perform analysis such as subjects of interest to users or search trends over time.
